I love Shady Oak beach! Cleanest beach ever. Spring Fed too. Also soft bottom beach, no weeds or rocks. Great park for little kids too.

Free during the time of Covid. Nice doc to swim to, but covered in bird poop. Almost no beach to speak of, hard to find a spot to distance and okay in water. Playground was nice

What a gem of a beach! It is pay to play, but the waters are clear, the sand perfect, the grassy hill has great views, and it is so close to the bike trail! A must stop on a hot day!

Great beach area, water is clear, no seaweed. Crowded but seemed enough space for everyone to socially distance. Also enjoyed fishing from the dock. Lots of sunfish.

Its fenced off and you have to pay. They also keep different hours than the park. Dont waste your time and go to one of the dozens of free beaches in the metro area.

The best beach in the area, this year it is free as well. You normally have to pay to get in. There are no lifeguards on duty this summer and you have to use portapottys but still crystal clear water and very soft sand.

If this place isnt good then my name isnt ciam loriea! They have a Lovely Lake side oasis where the kids can have fun on a nice summer day! The only downside is the lifeguards seem to have a temper larger than my late wife!

Great place to take the Grandkids. The only big problem is There are studip people THAT swim where, its fishing only .Go in the Morning to fish! Otherwise you have teenagers jumping off the wooden bridge fishing docks.Otherwise its nice to get outdoors !just fishing BEFORE and after the beach closes.During. open times ..just looking at the water.

The authorities plan not to open it in Summer 2020. Join Facebook group Shady Oak Beach for discussion on how to change this plan to a safe opening in a safe, no-frills way, like the Plymouth beaches on the Medicine Lake.Otherwise, a good sandy waterfront.

My husband called on our way there to see about canoe rentals and to ensure they were open and we could rent a canoe. They said we could and theydbe there. Got there within 10 minutes and they said they were just closing early. Pretty disappointed

Mi

You have to pay money to swim in the lake here. Thats as far as I got. Its a HOT day and the parking lot is pretty empty. Thus I am assuming its not worth the admission. 1 star.

Sh

Only reason I didnt rate it better is because the diving board wasnt open. They have an inflatable obstacle course that is great. Very reasonable priced rentals on canoes, kayaks and paddle boards.

An
Review №41

Favorite place to hang out with friends, because of the floating dock with the locally iconic high-dive, and lots of standing room. Thank goodness for that, because it’s always packed. Likely because the entrance fees are very low, there are always lifeguards on duty, and there are snacks (do not recommend if you are looking for something healthy in the slightest, since it’s all junk food for the most part). The season pass was only $18.00: incredibly cheap compared to to other guarded swimming destinations. There is a beach volleyball court, and free volleyball rentals if you just give them a shoe. There are boat and stand-up paddle board rentals if you’re interested, and have a legal adult. The park is decently nice, and if you keep walking down the path past the beach, there is a bridge overlooking the lake plus a friendly walking path.

If you’re envisioning a calm, relaxing trip to the beach, don’t come here in the popular summer months. It’s always absolutely packed, making it difficult to actually enjoy your experience (or even make your way through the water when swimming, for that matter). The reason I do like coming here is the fact that they have a nice snack bar.

Good place to relax, have a picnic, or bring the family for a fun beach day. There is a playground on site for the youngsters. Kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rentals available. Lifeguards are on duty. Admission is a little spendy at $6 for ages 2 and up. $3 after 6pm.

Enjoy coming out early before it gets a little busy and the water gets a little foggy from all the spf protection. Awesome to have a mask or goggles to watch the fish. Give it 4 out of 5 only because of the goose droppings and inflatable obstacle course that takes up a good portion of the beach and water.

Meh, maybe Im spoiled with Chicagos free waterfront, but I found this place pretty unremarkable. Everything costs and the beach is a 20x15 patch of sand next to a grassy knoll. The water activities in the lake are a plus, and there is a decent playground, but the (admittedly reasonable) fee to enter makes this just meh.

I love Shady Oak Beach. Aside from the good playground and Snack Shack, the sandy beach is always in great condition, there are small floating docks for the little ones in about three and a half feet of water, and a big dock out past the ropes with a diving board and high dive for the big kids. This is my second year getting a season pass, and my daughter and I love it. -Jeff

Between the beach and its iconic high dive, the water playground, the jungle gym, the concession stand, the public picnic area, and canoe and kayak rentals, the season pass is totally worth it! Get a pre-season pass for the best deal. Bonus: right off the bike path too!

This sand bottom lake is a nice oasis on a hot summers day. Especially good place after work for a relaxing dip. Best kept secret around. Shhh, dont tell anyone! The public beach is not free, $6 per person at the gate. But a whole season pass is a steal at $13, so you are money ahead at three visits. The season price is for Hopkins and Minnetonka residents. The land is owned by city of Hopkins but it is in the city of Minnetonka (formerly Village of). There is the beach, rental paddle boards and canoes, volleyball and a snacky food place on site. The beach season has shorted over the years. It 2018 it closes 19 of August, not the former Labor Day.
