One of the funnest bars! Always a good time and great environment. Good games, food and drinks of course.
I love up-down. Been here several times as a couple, and with friends. They have a great selection of games, friendly staff, and good deals (that $2 pizza slice can really hit the spot). They have a downstairs outdoor area and upstairs patio outside another bar, which wasnt open recently, likely due to covid and having fewer people, but they have ashtrays and some outdoor games to play with. They have mobile ordering, but we didnt try it out. Im not sure of their capacity limits but we went on Friday from around 515-630 and never felt like it was too full and were able to avoid people for the most part. We brought our own hand sanitizer but they had a couple bottles here and there for you to use as well.
Much cleaner during COVID. Floor used to be sticky and games used to be sticky. Love the beer selection and they have a variety of arcade game through the decades to choose from. Such a fun place.
This place is awesome for anybody who grew up in the 80s/90s. The have just about every arcasegame from that eraMy favorite a full size stand up version of killer queen. With 4 active simultaneous players. This is the top attraction. With a giant 5x5 screen the line for this game is sometimes hours.Luckily there is a full service bar.If you get hungry dont you worry they have a pizza parlor that serves slices or whole pizzas. Were not talking about any average pizza place. Their pies are over the top some what exotic. My favorite is the jalapeño pizza with pepperoni and pineapples. This place is a must see. Bring your ID and lots of change. This is a full service bar for adults only.
Cool spot to have a beer and play some Skee Ball (although do it sparingly, the guy at the desk has to hear the balls clunking all shift).Pinball is just as fun. Wear your mask while playing games!!
Just as fun as a Chuck E. Cheeses, but with better pizza, adult drinks, and no depressed teenager in a rat suit.
Went to Up Down for the millionth time this last monday and our server all night was Jennifer and she was amazing!! She was so friendly and inviting. I went out with my girls for a fun night out to cheer myself up and Jennifer just killed it. She made me completely forget about my problems and was just so sweet. I hope to be served by her again. We all adored her. She deserves a raise ️
Always liked this place but they make you wear a mask even when seated at a table. Roving security will make sure your mask stays on your face even while sipping your drink. Cant take your drink with you to games either. Just not fun anymore.
I havent written anything? OMG!Bar-cade, everything you imagine or dream of.- Excellent selection of crafts and ciders- great spot regardless of your outing goals, relaxed, distracting, group or solo,- movies playing that mesh with the vibe.
Fun place to grab a drink and play some old school games. Dont bring a group of more than 4 and expect to sit at a table though! They were pretty strict with that rule. Which also shows how greatly they are handling the Covid situation.
Amazing place, all games cost 1 token to play. 10 cent token nights. Pizza by the slice And like 40 beers on tap.
Fun fun spot in Uptown, they have a good selection of games/pizza/drinks and nice patio and rooftop tables. For COVID-19 they require masks and have paper masks if you need one, theres also a few people on sanitation duty wiping down the games after youre finished. If youre hypersensitive to racket (noise) like me Id recommend coming as early as possible to avoid the screamers
A customer tried to start a fight with my group of friends for no reason. No employee tried to stop the situation.
This is is one of Uptowns best and most consistent hangout spots. The pizza is delicious and the drinks are strong
This place is the best! Its a great throwback to the old school arcades but now with 100% more liquor. The games range from Pac-Man to pinball and everything in between. Even a non gamer can find something to play. For those who prefer the physical realm of games there are several skeeballs as well as giant Jenga and giant connect 4. Its best to come with at least one other person to hit the multi-player games. As for drink - the bar is well stocked and reasonable priced. Pizza is served. There are only a few choices but they are delicious! The mac and cheese pizza is the best. You can get single slices or a whole pie.The only downside to Up Down is that its very crowded on the weekends. There is usually a wait for most games. Midweek is the best time to go. Or right now. Right now is a very good time to go.
Very fun place with reasonable prices and fun arcade games, 10 dollars of tokens goes a long way.
I went There And Had A Great Time They Play The Latest Music And So Many Retro Games Its a Gaming Arcade For Adults And Its The Coolest Thing Ever I Enjoyed The Place And It Was Awesome
Great service, but a lot of the games werent working properly.
This place is doing everything they can during the pandemic. One thing that is not working is that they require parties of 2, but there are groups of 8 sitting together.
Went on a Thursday night for happy hour with work. Was great! Pizza was pizza. Had some good games. Not as many as you would think and both competitive games were broken and only single player, which was also mostly broken. Sad day for the actual games. If you like a bar with more than big buck hunter and golf then check this out. If youre an arcade enthusiast or gamer, dont waste your money.
Bring your ID and mask they have fun games lots of pinball machines for only a quarter
Visited this place twice and both time met with underwhelming drinks with price tags. The games are on point and for any thrill seekers that enjoy the atmosphere more then going to a bar to enjoy a drink this is definitely the way to go. Would like to see the quality of enjoyment go up here but might check out a few other places otherwise
Up down provided a classic arcade experience with an adult atmosphere. It was perfect you could have a couple of beers a few slices of pizza and play a lot of the old classic games.Pizza was decent a lot of local beers around the menu a good prices.Arcade cabinet selection was pretty good too I am happy to say who is nice to see some of the older classics still running around.
What’s better than nostalgic video and arcade games
Many of the games were not functioning properly. Also, there are no dietary options for those with restrictions.
Very cool bar with a great selection of old arcade games. Additionally there were two N64s running while I was there I noticed people playing Tony Hawk and super smash bros. Also they have pizzas available for purchase. We got the Hawaiian it was delicious!
Such a fun and great place to hang out! They have an awesome bar with liquor and lots of beer. There are so many games to play, I love getting to play games I havent played in forever. They have specials each night, check the website for all of them. Definitely a place to go when its cold or you have friends in town or if youre just bored!
I love this place. So excited for it to open up again one day so I can bring my friends to see it. My suggestion is to go earlier in the day or on a week day. Its so popular that it just explodes with people during busy hours.
If you are seeking a relaxed bar to enjoy great craft beers and cocktails and play classic arcade games, Up-Down is the place to visit. The establishment offers a wide selection of drinks at affordable prices (hint hint college students) and the staff are always welcoming, and will cater to whatever needs you may have during your visit. I am thankful that this spot is right in Uptown!
Wide variety of games to play, free or with the purchase of tokens. Yes it is very crowded, but if you don’t mind being shoulder to shoulder walking through the crowd or waiting to play certain games this is definitely a place to check out. Main floor bar and a rooftop bar. They have pizza and walking tacos for purchase. Smoking is allowed on the patios. Even if you don’t like games this a great spot to people watch .Only complaint would be the connect four games need a little repair, (but it’s a free game) and some of the games were ‘out of order’
They did a great job with the first day of the new pandemic restrictions. Lots of cleaning. Friendly service and not slow.
Covid 19 practices in place. Good times can be found here!
Super cool! Fun place to go to play arcade games. Lots of choices! They have awesome deals for coins and drink. I thought everything was pretty reasonable price wise.
Probably one of my favorite bars in uptown. At this point everyone likely has a few Up-Down tokens somewhere. Tons of classics, good drinks, and pizza. Great place to go with friends but unfortunately its so good that it gets crowded fast!
Having spent quite a bit of time there, I can say its quite a refreshing social spot. It has a full bar and all of the best retro games. Whether you like playing Super Smash Bros Melee or Pac-Man, this place has it all. Unlike some places that offer free drinks for you on your birthday, Up-Down offers a ton of game tokens to play all day/night long. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a great time, whether or not you decide to drink.
Very cool! Old school arcade that serves alcohol! Many old school cabinet games, pinball, and other video arcade games. Full bar with drink specials. Usually busy especially on a weekend. Also has limited menu (might just be pizza not sure). I recommend if your in the Minneapolis area.
Absolutely huge beer selection that changes regularly. Tons of arcade games and the tokens are reasonably priced! The rooftop patio is a cool spot in the summertime with shuffleboard and a projector screen with a Nintendo 64 hooked up to play the classics.
Awesome bar to go to with friends! Lots of arcade games to play, the majority need coins to play but they also have a giant connect 4 game for free! If its your birthday you get a free cup of coins to use for the games!! Highly recommend! If you go during the winter months they do have a coat rack for when its super cold out.
Great beer selection and a fantastic selection of arcade games. Pizza is pretty darn good too! Would be five stars but been here a few times with a few out of order games (psst I repair classic arcade games ).
A fun place for a mid week date! My husband and I walked in on a Wednesday evening after eating dinner at a place down the street. We had some game tokens left from a previous visit and had a great time playing some nostalgic faves. If you visit Thu night - Sunday, the place is normally loud and packed, making it a challenge to have any sort of conversation. Visiting on an off day proved to be an excellent idea! My only complaint is that the skee ball machines are always down for repair, or runnung but in need of repair.
Talk about an exhilarating experience. While the daytime festivities ensured my friends and I were enjoying ourselves despite it being a Monday Afternoon, the fun really began at night. The whole place lights up after dark to demonstrate a captivating scene and the games/service completely sold the idea there was no place anyone would rather be, including the staff. You arent experiencing what minneapolis nightlife has to offer if this isnt on your destination list.
I cannot tell you how much I love this place. Between the bar tenders, food, and the games, I was a very satisfied patron here.
Love this place! 5/5 every time :)
I love this place but they are only accepting reservations now. Ugh!
This is the first Up-Down I have been to. The one in Milwaukee is comparable. I believe there are others.Games cost coins, but you can get coins for 10 cents on Thursdays (25 cents at other times) or for free on your birthday. When machines dont work, theyll compensate coins too.LOTS of beer/cider choices at fair prices and the pizza is pretty good too
Great selection of arcade cabinets. Some of the CRTs need a little attention with fixing warp and such but otherwise great. Building was as clean as expected, and the staff was friendly. Can get very busy, but thats to be expected with a great arcade atmosphere. I havent had the pizza but it did look delicious. Worth the visit!
Place looks cool. Many different types of beer to try. But the whole playing games part was almost impossible. Probably shouldnt have gone on a Saturday night. If you have issues being around a lot of people. Probably not the place to be on a Saturday night bartenders were cool waitstaff also cool. Just wish I could have played some games
One of the best places for a fun date night in the Cities! Ive only been twice but once you can find a game that piques your interest, youll be hooked. They also have a special until 9 pm most days where you get double tokens and their list of tap beer/cider is huge! I always enjoy coming here.
Was extremely crowded, may be because I was there on a Saturday evening. Games were fun, drinks were yummy though a bit small. May go on a weekday to see if its a little less crowded.
I hope this business is surviving this weeks tragedy! Let me know if you need assistance!Playing old school video games in Uptown is so fun!
Super fun place and cute date spot
This place is great fun!! Ginormous Jenga, Connect Four and Mario cart! Plus they have a life that is extremely fun!! Great prices and atmosphere!! I absolutely loved it!! An is one of my favorite places to visit and let loose.
Costume party for Halloween so much fun great people and pizza
Always have a great time here! It’s pretty much always very busy, but the bartenders are always on point (in my experiences) and service is very quick.I’m not a huge video games player, but I always enjoy (failing miserably) at the old arcade games. Unless you’re only wanting to play something specific, people usually move enough you can okay a lot of games.Upstairs bar is a quieter getaway from the downstairs commotion (but it’s a shame the bubble hockey is in such poor condition).
Great variety of games!! Only a quarter to play them!! Awesome beer selection!!!! Just went on a Saturday night in September 2020. 150 people capacity. Maybe 60 people there at most. Plenty of room to safely play games and enjoy a Brewski!!
Enforcing capacity and masks at the beginning...but by 1 realize they did not care and let more people in than the building capacity. Bartenders not using gloves or washing hands after each drink provided.
Great place, games, beer. Pizza avail...looks great. Shuffleboard, connect four large versions, joust, galaga, etc. Way fun. Do.
Video games! pinball! Pizza! Beer! Rooftop access! If youre looking for a fun time with friends and a break from the norm of clubbing and bar hopping, check this place out.Just he aware, booze+arcade cabinets= sticky and kind of broken arcade cabinets. Also, this place is PACKED on weekends. Show up at 6 on a Friday and it feels like 9 on a Saturday. If you can handle the feeling of being a Cyberpunk sardine in the outrun themed can that is Up-Down, youre gonna love it.
Fun place. Can get quite busy. Fun selection of games, drinks and pizza. The one downside to this place is the $10 minimum purchase with a credit card. Youre forced to get two drinks this way or buy tokens. Rather annoying considering how much business this place does. Come on, fork over the CC transaction fee..
This place is always packed on Friday nights, but the vibes are great so it feels more like a party you were invited to then a club full of strangers. The tap list is amazing, and the games are phenomenal. My favorite part about the whole place is the big neon sign that says treat others excellently. That might be a paraphrase, since Ive already left now, but the intention is the same, and everytime Ive been there thats been the reality. Come enjoy it for yourself.
Fun, different and they have different deals and events during the week!Games are ok and more if you love old games. We went there a couple times during our trip in Minneapolis, Jessica the bartender and the security guys are amazing.
Great atmosphere and fun retro games!
Time machine? No, alternate universe. An experience for sure. Great execution of a twist on the typical bar environment.
This place is amazing! I was in town visiting from Atlanta this weekend and this has got to be the coolest bar Ive ever been in! We initially can Friday night and it was a decent sized crowd. All the retro arcade games and shows on the tv really made for an awesome experience. Plus the drinks were really cheap and strong! We cant wait to come back to Minnesota and visit Up Down again! If you guys ever want to expand Atlanta could definitely use you!
I heard a lot of hype for this place. Misguided
Best place in mpls to cut loose and grab a brew! Check it out.
Classic arcade and bar with pizza. If you grew up in the 90s you should stop by it will be all the Retro games you remember and plenty of pinball. Before 9 p.m. half-price tokens. You can leave your Quarters at home they wont do you any good. Prices are super reasonable on food and drinks as well. Major shout out to Turtles in Time and Xmen classic.
I have some noise/light/crowd sensitivities so this place was a living nightmare for me haha! But the rooftop patio was much better. Loved the classic racing/driving games and dance dance revolution the best.
We still have coins ($20) worth. Loads of fun. Great food. Chill music. Hard to find parking but still awesome place to chill out and game on retro games. If the games crash on you just ask one of the employees and they will help you out.
Pizza is totally worth it. The games are great a d the atmosphere is so relaxed!!! I wish the balcony was still open even though it was cold out but other than that a great time was had by all
Great place to relax and hang out with friends. Look on there website for specials! They have a great beer selection. Pizza by the slice is awesome! Adams Family pinball is my favorite!!
Impressive beer selection, fun games, helpful and enjoyable staff. Whats not to love! You do have to be 21+ to get in, which is a bit of a downer but if youre of age, I highly recommend!
Really fun barcade. The music was louder than I would of like for 7 pm but it is a bar. There was a wide array of arcade games most of which were working. The interior is really cool. There was two different patios on the first floor and a good top bar. It was pretty busy while we were there but still was able to enjoy some games.I am giving it 5 Stars for its uniqueness and the fact that every game was only 25 cents a play! Awesome!Tips: Bring your photo Identification if you want to get in.During there Happy hour on Saturdays they have 2 tokens for the price of one.You MUST play Killer Queen. It is a 10 player game!
Maybe Im just a dork, but this is probably my favorite bar in Uptown. Good deals on pizza and beer, plus all the games you wanted to play as a kid but never had any quarters... Its just a really fun time.
Everthing is kinda sticky but if your okay with that it’s chill
This is my favorite bar, and I hardly play video games. I just like the atmosphere. It gets crazy busy late on the weekends, but any other time it’s pretty relaxed. The bartenders are great, beer selection is varied, video games are endless. Check it out
Awesome place for a date or just having a random night out with friends! Beer, Pizza and Arcade games for a quarter? What’s not to like?
This place is poppin’ ! No seriously it is hard to move around and play games in here. The pizza is ok, but I’d much rather go on a Monday night or whenever it isn’t full. I wish this place would expanded or move to a larger location. If you get anxious in crowds this is not the place for you on the weekend. The selection of arcade games is wonderful!!!
Great spot for some gaming and brews. Packed with classic games and some new ones as well. The rooftop is a great spot weather permitting and they have a nice rotating beer list (with Michigan brews which I appreciate) You can grab a a slice of pizza all night from the window and nn top of that they have killer queen, what more do you need?
An amazing place to go. From bar food to drinks to arcade games everything was amazing. Be sure to get in line for the game “KILLERQUEEN”. It’s the best arcade game you can play in a group so far. Went here on NYE and played this game for three hours. It doesn’t even make you want to drink. The patio is also amazing where you can sit by the fire pit tables or play Jenga with friends.
Best time to go is right when it opens on Saturday or Sunday. Gets really busy later in the day but beer and pizza are great and tons of games of all different genres.
Cool place! I enjoyed the pinball machines, but dont really know the other machines, so I didnt play those. My colleagues had fun with several, though!
Quarter pin ball machines, HUGE drink selection, beautiful girls, and good music. Great for the young crowd. Even when I come alone it doesnt take long to find some friends.
This place is a lot of fun. Tons of arcade games and pinball. The drinks are good, the environment is fun. The pizza by the slice is definitely worth it too.
This bar has a great selection of retro games with lots of competitive and co-op options to play with friends. Drinks are reasonably priced. Can get very crowded weekend evenings
The only arcade bar in the cities that I know of and also one of the better bars Ive been too in the cities.Has a wide mix of cabinet arcade games ranging from several dawn of the 8-bit era machines up to more recent fare like racing simulator/rivalry creator Mario kart and super smash brothers. The games are very reasonable in price and the crowd is mostly people in their 20s and 30s who get a sense of nostalgia from the setting.
Great bar with reasonably priced tokens for all the different arcade games. They also have other free games throughout the bar as well (N64, Connect 4, & jenga). Fingers crossed the Ice Cold Beer game gets fixed soon because it was out of order the last time I went.
Good drinks and fun games. If its a busy night it can be hard to get to any of the fun games. Its nice to take a break from the arcade and check out the patio out back or on the roof.
Fantastic selection of games. OK pizza. And women who look at you like week old compost unless theyre with a boyfriend. In which case they are pleasant and nice. The men are universally very nice and polite though. For example, it was made very clear I was welcome to join a multiplayer game that I was watching, even though I had no clue how to play it.
Tremendous place to relive your childhood memories!Lots of arcade classics, and hours of fun guaranteed!
Great place with awesome retro games. Multiple N64 setups with Smash Bros or Mario Kart to play for free. Nice beer selection.
I wanted to love this place, but it was packed to the gills and all I wanted to play was ski ball, but the waiting list was insane. They did have a decent pounder special, but with how many people there were, you basically had to drink it between two strangers. Id like to go again, but well try for a calmer time.
