A lot more enjoyable than I thought it would have been! We saw Mr Poppers Penguins. I did not know the whole story but it was fun. The production was amazing, seating was good, and there was plenty of staff to help us figure out where we were going. Kids enjoyed it but I was more impressed with how much I did. Very high level of production/professionalism for a play aimed at kids while still making it enjoyable for everyone. Good theater, stage and they also had snacks available as well! Right next to the Minnesota institute of Art as well, so perfect for day/half day trip for everyone!

Love going to MIA. One hint is to pre-order your snacks for intermission. This is so much better than trying to stand in line for food and then also get in the bathroom break. This time we saw the Hobbit and again we were not disappointed.

Childrens Theatre Company is absolutely amazing. Their plays always blow me away with the set design, the costumes and the acting. The childrens classes are also completely worth it. They are a little on the expensive side, but the education is great and my kids always love them. Also, whenever Ive had to call the theatre for something, everyone is always so nice over the phone.

We love the childrens theatre. We did a subscription a couple years ago and went to three shows. My son was 2.5 years old at the time and we were worried he wouldnt make it through a whole show but they all held his attention so well. He loved it! Its hasnt been in our budget to do the subscription again and we have instead been going to a more inexpensive theatre with childrens shows, but there is a definite difference in quality and production value. If we get to a place of having more expendable income this will definitely be on our list of things to do.

TIP: The womens bathroom here has long waiting lines, so to avoid accidents remind little ones to go before you leave for the theater. Gender-neutral bathrooms are available on the museum side.Weve been to several performances here, and they really cater to the kids. Ive never seen any unruly kids here. The theater and cast really know their business and keep everyone entertained. The performances here are excellent, and they do a good job online of including the appropriate ages for each upcoming performance. You should pay attention to that, its really true with the age information. The lobby has souvenirs and snacks, including adult beverages.

Great set up for a family with children any age, even infants. Very interactive shows, great for noisy kids, also keep runtime at a reasonable rate with an intermission. Each side of the theater has a quite room to take infants it toddlers who need a break that is glassed off with sound piped in. As a bonus, its attached to the art museum, so you can make it a full day of entertainment.

While each play may vary in my enjoyment of the material, I have never had a bad play here (and we have had season tickets for years). Think your kids wont be able to sit through a performance? Thats what I thought until I took them, and they sat there in rapt attention. We have seen Cinderella, Wizard of Oz, Little House in the Big Woods, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Babe, and many others. The actors are great, production values too, and friendly staff. The adjacent Minneapolis Institute of the Arts is chock full of great stuff too.

My girls love going to the shows. We have seen several over the years and they never disappoint. We are so excited to see whats coming for the 2019-2020 season. The theater is beautiful and the seats are comfortable. There is always an intermission so the girls can hit the bathroom and get a snack. My favorite production was Cinderella. The step sisters were fantastic. The Wiz comes in second only because the sisters were played by men making it even funnier.

They put on good interactive shows for the childrens. It was nice watching them bring the kids into it and hold their interest, but still giving them room to go back and forth between themselves in front and their family/friends in back to take care of themselves without them or the parents being shamed for being an interruption etc. And they have little ways to play/engage in the waiting area too plus the fun socks you get to borrow. Really friendly and helpful staff. Will go again ;)

Very high quality performances aimed towards younger children, but all theatre enthusiasts with find something to enjoy. How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Jungle Book are my favorites from the past, but they’re always opening new and diverse shows. Great representation. For students interested in acting, they have FANTASTIC musical theatre classes based on experience and grade. They also offer summer camps. The teachers bring the same energy from the stage performances to the classrooms, which are located right beneath the theaters. I believe they now offer audition workshops regularly, too, if you would like to be a part of a show. The Children’s Theatre is a fun opportunity for families, and you can always check out the museum while you’re there. Good location: it’s near many good restaurants and a park.

The children selected to perform in their musicals/plays are EXCELLENT. You do not feel like you are missing on anything by having children be the actors and actresses. I went to the Childrens Theatre Company for the first time last night to see the presentation of The Grinch. Its grossly overpriced. Show was fine and actors did well but overall the organization is a little bourgeois in my opinion. I would say look at your local theaters or school plays if you want to have your children exposed to the arts. Kind of has an elitist feel. Considering the cost of the tickets I would expect that the carpeted walls in the theater would not be falling apart This does not seem to be a place that the local community is a part of.

Weve seen many performances here over the years. Always entertaining. The Q and A after the matinee performances are a favorite for my kids who enjoy the behind the scenes look. I enjoy how they bring literary classics to life. Performances on the main stage can be too long for small children. If your kids cant sit through a feature length movie, Id wait a bit longer. An average kindergartener should be able to enjoy the entire show.

They did an amazing production (as always) of the grinch! So fun! The characters did an amazing job individually, all of them. The costumes were fun and fantastic. The set was amazing and the music was perfect. Only downfall was sitting the whole show smelling a mother’s wine. Not appropriate to have alcohol in a children’s show setting. Pretty sad a parent can’t go out to a play with the child without having a drink. It stunk and was distracting from the show. Disappointed in the theater for allowing this now.

Childrens Theatre is a great place for kids of all ages. They have multiple performance spaces, including the main stage, and always put together a stellar cast. If you have little ones that cant necessarily sit for an entire show, there is a quiet room in the back where you can watch the show. Does you child have sensitive ears? No problem! There are child headphones available for free to protect their ears during shows with special effects. Just turn them back in at the end of the show. Parking is either free on the street or you can pay for the ramp immediately across from the stage door. Everyone should go to the Childrens Theatre at least one time!

OMG! Corduroy was absolutely amazing. My wife (undergrad in theater) and her sister a current stage manager were completely blown away. My mother, one year old son, and I loved it. It was my sons first play so we got front row, which we able to get on discount because we get food assistance for him. He sat still the entire show which was a miracle! The large stadium seating could be overwhelming to individuals with sensory issues or anxiety, and there were in fact a couple kids who didnt want to be there. Sold out but many didnt show up. After the break the open seats seemed to be fair game for people to move closer. Bring hidden snacks, or visit the deli on the top floor of Mia an hour before the show.. We did both.
