As a young boy I would stop by to get a drink of the water. Shure it tasted like iron. Thus the name. But it was cold and refreshing on a hot day. That was back during the 1950s. I am surprised that it is still there.

Artesian wells are a great find. There is a slight iron taste to the water, which I dont mind - just a sign of minerals in water. I have used this water as my primary drinking water since August 19.Well is maintained by City of Miwaukee. The Dept of Health has posted a notice that a trace mineral, strontium, in water exceeds daily recommendations. (Might be a concern for children, pregnant women.) Do your own research.

Interesting historical landmark thats a natural spring. Great water if you like to consume strontium-90, but not recommended.

A great well with clean water.Did you know that the aquifer underneath the well is connected to Lake Superior, and not Lake Michigan?

Lots of water flowing out of this well. I regularly fill up water bottles, and most of my drinking water comes from this well. A slight taste, with 135 ppm dissolved solids. A high level of strontium, according to the sign posted. I dont mind the strontium since it can help strengthen bones.

This is the oldest working and only working well left in Milwaukee County. It is always crisp and cool and it is free to all who bring containers. It tastes like a good iron well should.

Interesting historical site. It was extremely popular during the crypto outbreak in the early 90s. Even though there is a sign advising not drinking the water many still get jugs of water from there to drink. Ive drank it myself while on bike rides, tastes good and nice and cold naturally

This kind of well has been here forever. The water does have an acquired taste due to the iron & mineral content. This is a free site. Bring your own container to fill.

Cool historic spot built in 1882! Strontium doesnt appear to be that dangerous, but drink at your own risk. I always get confused an turn on Iron St...this is on Pryor.

Its water, so not much to say there. However, its a cool little unique place to go if you have someone visit from out of town.

Review №27

Water has a very high iron content (hence the name), so that affects the taste. Rumor has it that letting the water settle a bit resolves this. Also - its clean and independent of the city water, so when the zombie apocalypse happens and the water supply is tainted, this place will be a madhouse.
