Watch the movie Big Fish and go see the Town of Spectre. A couple of buildings are missing that were shown in the movie and those remaining are a little run down. That being said, however, we still enjoyed walking around the site and my wife took more than a few pictures. Take some treats along for the goats both young and old or just scratch their heads. I dont recommend you turn your back on them though as ALL goats have a tendency to butt into things occasionally.
Spectre is still a beautiful town, even after 17 years...
Great if you love Tim Burton !! Was a great experience. Definitely very cool seeing the set!
Charming little island campground surrounding the movie set Town of Spectre from the film Big Fish. I found a little goat that was separated from his mama. Little guy tried to leave with me. I was only passing through so I didnt get to do any fishing or camping but it looked amazing.
Fun little visit, its neat took view and walk around especially of your a fan of the movie.
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip! Definitely gonna sit down and watch the movie tonight!
This place was cool. Theres a $3 entry fee per person so make sure to have cash. The site and buildings were neat to look at but the goats were our favorite part
My daughter surprised me with a day trip to Spectre Big Fish is my favorite movie so this was so much fun. There were also a dozen or so newborn goats! Ill definitely be going back to camp one day!!
This was a fun exploration! I was excited to see it and it made me want to watch the movie again. However, I wore open toed shoes and some goat poop got in my sandal. The goats were cute but lord there was poop everywhere. You can’t dodge it! They were sweet goats and the kids were petting them and picking up the babies.Great camping area and very peaceful place. I’d like to come in the winter during the week when there are less people. They do have picnic tables so pack a lunch and take a break from it all in Specter but wear closed toed shoes!!
I am so glad I stumbled on this place! It is the home to the movie set for Big Fish, a Tim Burton movie. Wild goats run free and they are entertaining all by themselves! The views of the water are plentiful. I will return again!
Its so beautiful. Camped over night on the island walked spectre at night fished. Just beautiful
Great place! Fishing, cool scenery, family friendly! Youll love the crazy cute goats...till they eat your lunch! LOL
The goats are alot of fun! Pretty scenery!
These people are rude, trifling, spendthrift, old, dried up, prune juice drinking, UTI having meanies. They smelled like a roll of nickels, and had the personalities of a scrap of wet, soggy cardboard. You couldn’t pay me to darken their doors again! I’m so sad after I came here. Honestly, their breath reeks of the pungent smell of pickled fish heads and one lady is cross eyed and almost sideswiped my car with her golf cart. If you’re thinking about going here, it’s time to do some self reflection and realize that you’re better than that. You’re welcome.
It was a very quiet, clean, beautiful area. Fun to see a place that was a big part of the movie Big Fish.
If you like movies and seeing where they are made this is your place really cool
Nice little park with goats. Lovely place to fish/camp or just walk around and take pictures with the old set from Big Fish.
It was AMAZING! Better than what I imagined! I didnt want to leave! Ill definitely be coming back with my wife.
If youre a fan of the movie Big Fish should definitely visit Jackson Lake Island. Youll find what you were looking for (the movie set) and more (lots of joyful goats). Entrance is $3 per person and you can also camp there.
This place is amazing! Love the movie Big fish one of my favorites
Well kept interesting movie-set town. Loys of little goats running free.
So much fun to pull up to a little spot for the day, get out and walk the town or get out in the lake. The goats are super cute and friendly. Great family friendly atmosphere.
One of my favorite movies and I enjoyed seeing the props used in making of the movie Big Fish
My husband and I are huge Tim Burton fans and we only live 1.5 hours away, so we finally made the trip. Man, we are so glad we did! It was beautiful.$3 admission fee (cash only) and you can stay until dark. They also offer camping and RV options, for a larger fee. There are plenty of parking spots, clean public restrooms, tables, benches and swings for picnicking, and tons of friendly goats! We got to see whats left of the Spectre set and even left our own pair of shoes behind. We had an incredible time and we hope to be back soon for a camping stay.
Such a cool place to visit whether you’ve seen the movie Big Fish or not. Lovely well maintained area with plenty of open space and tables for a nice picnic. The goats are very friendly!
Possibly one of the most beautiful parks in this area. First, you drive in to get to the film set which is the City of Spectre from Big Fish. You can walk around freely and there are goats that are like pets that will come up to you! The kids loved them. Next, drive around the lake and look at the beautiful park. Fishing, tent camping, swimming, picnicing, walking along the path...Such a beautiful natural area. I cant wait to go back.Very inexpensive to visit, and so worth it.
Even if youve never seen Big Fish, this is a fun place to visit.
BIG FISH lovers must stop! There is something magical in being in the town of spectre! Don’t forget an extra pair of tennis shoes and a sharpie as you will want to add your name to the entrance. Each year this places slowly deteriorates but while it lasts pack some snacks and some fishing gear (yes you can fish here) and make this a destination!
This was a great place to visit! We havent gotten out much, especially the kids, with the recent lock downs, but Jackson Island was a precious way for the kids to run, play, and interact with the goats. They enjoyed it immensely, especially once they learned that the goats were less apprehensive when they approached slowly and without screaming their excitement. They also enjoyed offering leaves from the trees a a snack.
As a Big Fish/Tim Burton fan, it was pretty neat seeing the set. It’s gotten run down though and it’s not very isolated as I saw some reviews say. There were about 6 RVs to the left of the “town”. They need to rebuild it so people can stay in the taverns and make it a little wedding center. The island is very pretty to drive around. We probably took about an hour to visit it, but you could spend more time here by fishing, picnicking, etc. it was about $5 per person to get in if I remember.
Such a beautiful drive in a hidden gem in Millbrook. I was surprised to find such tranquility and happy campers all on the property. Even all the goats were soo friendly and adorable as they could be. It was wonderful to visit. Even thinking of just going back to take a peaceful stroll reflect and thank God for all the beauty that is in His world. The facades were a bit rickety but to get that feel of being on a real Hollywood set was amazing. Even some cool shoes too!! Thanks for having such a place like this and inviting the public to mask in this glory...A+
Very cool. Would like to go back and fish one day.
It was pretty cool to go to an actual movie set. I would not recommend anyone go into these buildings. The elements have done a number on them. Also the place is covered with goat poop. It is now considered Goat Island and a herd of goats have the run of it. Which is fine, the goats were adorable.
Beautiful restored old town from the hit movie Big Fish. If you havent seen the film or this town then watch the film first and then visit. Its so cool they kept the entire town the same since filming!
This place is great! Its so quiet & secluded. If you need to get away from all the craziness of this world this is the place to do it.
Nice little place. My wife loves the baby goats that roam around the island. It cost $3 per person. Sometimes exact change would be suggested, other time someone is there to take your money at the entrance.
Neat to see. Enjoyed the goats and the walk. Recommend.
Nice little attraction if you liked big fish.Worth being seen.
I love to photograph the old movie set and the beauty of the island. Excellent spot for a family outing/ get together/camping trip.
We camped here in our van and is quite possibly our favorite place that we have ever camped. Not only do you have the set of ‘Big Fish’ on the island there with you but also a herd of free-roaming goats! The movie sets are so neat to see, especially if you are a fan of the movie. The goats are all very friendly and cute. The camping spot are all right on the lake and very spread out, so you really have a sense of privacy. There are bathrooms not far from the camping areas, as well as a shower. It looked like at least one spot had electric hookups too! This is truly a magical place!
The set of Big Fish is here, you can see the town. Shoes are still hanging. Its $3 a person to have a great afternoon.
Fun day trip. Wonderful experience being able to walk through the Town of Spectre! Was $3 per person. Can camp here for $10 per person. Lot of people fishing. Goats wondering around. Would be great if they would repair the houses before they have to be torn down. Some of the buildings/houses have been removed due to hazards.
Awesome to see the movie set still standing, plus an overall beautiful island. Great opportunities for photographers and you can even camp there! Will definitely be back!
Thanks Bobby Bright for granting our family access to this Historic island! It was a fun day of Kayaking! Great kayaking boat launch ramp! It was especially helpful for our novice crew of kayakers (our preschool age sons). Our 2 and 3 year old sons didnt enjoy sharing their picnic lunch with the herd of goats! But our older sons enjoyed meeting and petting the goats!
I must agree, if you are a Tim Burton fan and love the movie Big Fish this is a must see place. It is adorable even if you have never seen the movie it is a great place to spend the day picnicking and fishing. While we were visiting there were many families with young children everywhere and that made it even more enjoyable. The goats!!! After we had been there about 30 minutes I was a bit disappointed in the goats or lack thereof, my son loves goats, then suddenly in the distance we could hear them bleating and there were at the very least 40 goats and kids, it was a full blown goat parade. Watching my son and all of the other children playing with them absolutely made my day.The property is beautiful and well maintained, there was no goat poop everywhere, only in the small area where their feed and water is located behind the church.Everyone from the gate attendants to the campers and visitors were very nice. I cant wait to spend more days with my family in the Town of Spectre. There is a $3.00 per person entry fee, they accept cash and credit or debit card.
Great place to visit if youre an adventurer, a movie lover, Tim Burton fan, or looking for something different to do. The goats are cute, the owners are sweet, the scenery is beautiful and magical, and best of all you can camp out there. Highly recommend!
Amazing. Great place for a picnic. Plenty of tables and seas for family fun. The goats are super cruelty but watch out for the rooster.
A great visit with a lot of wildlife. The town was actually in better shape than I had hoped. A great place to camp out or spend an afternoon.
Such a cool and pleasant place to be. We will be back to camp in the fall
Awesome place!!!! You get to see the town of Spectre from the movie Big Fish. They have camping and fishing as well.
Super cool place!!! We will come back!!!
So much fun! Great place to spend a day or just a couple of hours! Amazing place for pictures!
Interesting movie set. Beautiful landscaping and fun for families. They have a few activities and camping areas. The goats are fun to watch and play with. Be sure to bring money as there is an entrance fee that is automated.
Loved it, will be going back soon
Came here for a gathering of my favorite apocalyptic authors. Ron Foster hosted the event and picked a perfect relaxing spot. Arrived Friday morning at 7am and left Sunday at 5. Fished all 3 days and not.even a single bite. The only person I saw catch anything was a guy who had like 30 floating hooks. He caught one fish in 2 days. I saw plenty of them hitting the water surface, just not a good weekend of fishing. I would love to see the owner fix up the old building and make them into rough cabins to stay in. The goats were hilarious but people kept sropping by our campsite to feed them which caused them to be a nuisance. I will recommend the island for a little camping fun, but cant in my good nature say its great for fishing.
Beautiful surroundings and I love the goats.
Its a fun stop all the buildings of pretty wore out so he cant get in Im not safely and its not so much the town of Spectre that is amazing but where its located it is beautiful area and I must stop
Very cool place to visit. Will definitely be back
Very nice place may want to go when its not so hot.
Only a few dollars per person, you pay at the gate using the honor system. Drive 14mph on up to Spectre, Home of the Big Fish. A spacious area full of old trees covered with Spanish moss, a small neighbirhood of run down houses (including the old church) and the lake surrounding the area all make for a beautiful, haunting and memorable experience. A herd of friendly goats wander free, eating the grass. Oh, the houses and the church? Theres nothing inside except plywood and sawdust. This was the set for the movie Big Fish. A very photogenic place!
Second visit here. Will visit everytime I pass by here. I love playing with the goats. $3 a person is worth it if you love playing with animals. Also cool to see the set of the movie big fish.
Loved it. Very clean ands nice
Ive seen some who have complained about the land owners asking for a donation to visit. Its a small price to see a really awesome movie set. Big Fish is a family favorite for us and the location made for some really great photos. Camping slots are available and there are bathroom facilities also available. We plan on visiting again!
If your a fan of Big Fish or not this is a awesome place for a day trip!!!
Loved it. I am a fan of the movie Big Fish and an even bigger fan of goats. Looking forward to my next trip there
Quiet place, cool trip!
Awesome to be on part of an old movie set. Goats were adorable.
Cost 3.00$ per person to get in kids 2/under are free. Deposit money at the gate and call the phone number to get in the gate. Once inside its a short drive and there are restrooms there. Goats run freely on the island and the grounds look well kept. Not allowed inside buildings.
Very nice. It was cool to see the set of the movie. The grounds were very clean and well kept as well as the bathrooms. Will be visiting again. Thank you!
We loved this place.. and the goats.. great for families and anyone..
Beautiful and peaceful setting. Would definitely go again.
Nice place. The goats wandering around were cute, but the buildings are detereorating rapidly and are not safe to enter. There is some camping and the place is situated on a tiny island in the middle of Jackson Lake connected by a bridge. Very picturesque.
Amazing place..... a must to see
Loved it
Great little Discovery!!! $3 each to enter, friendly goats lol, we were just there for a day trip but I cant wait to come back camping!!!
It was BEAUTIFUL, clean, friendly atmosphere, the goats were too cute, and the fishing was GREAT!!
Take a moment to enjoy the town of Spectre from the movie Big Fish. The town was built for a movie nearly 20 years ago and looks it as well. The goats are friendly and there are porch swings set up at different places overlooking Jackson island lake.Bring a picnic lunch because theres no food on the island, or bring some fishing poles and catch your own. A great walk, a nice leftover town from a movie, and some beautiful views. There is a cost to visit, and a recommend calling ahead to be sure its open because the road to the island can be closed due to weather.
For only $3 per person you can spend all day on the island. Great for picnics, fishing or photography.
Loved the old house that were still there
Great place to explore. Beautiful scenery.
Nice place for relaxing, camping, photography. Clean an well cared for. Goats live on there. Swimming is possible but there is no lifeguard. As of September, 2019, there is an entry fee of $3 per head payable in cash with exact change only.
Big Fish is a beautiful movie, and one of Tim Burtons greatest films. It will give you goose bumps walking through the remnants of this forgotten(fictional)town
Great place for the family, just spending the day with the goats!!
Its been years since Ive been out there and WOW, theyve really cleaned it up... great place to take the littles fishing or picnicing!
Great place to relax and have a good time with the family .
Great! We had the best day!
The baby goats and mama ones are friendly where small children can pet them
Love the movie Big Fish and had to visit
What a great day trip for me & my Mother. It was so much fun and what a memory we made. Enjoyed the clean laidback atmosphere. And just enjoyed spending time with each other in Spectre. Yes, we threw our shoes on the line as we entered the town, which was fun, but decided it was just a great place to visit and came back to Jasper.
Great scenery. Beautiful lake. Very peaceful location. Clean restrooms. Plenty places to have a picnic or just lay and relax. The water is warm but wouldnt recommend swimming. Seen more than 30 goats. I am looking to going back to visit. Cost is $3pp.
Great lil place for a picnic and the goats were cool. Great view if the lake
Set from the Big Fish movie. Lot of goats and very beautiful landscapes.
A beautiful spot to take the kids and relax
Great place to relax and enjoy scenery.
Cute little island, where you can visit the remnants of the movie set for Tim Burtons Big Fish. Unfortunately there are already some houses gone due to fire and floods but the iconic entrance of Town of Spectre is still there (yeah, you can even bring a pair of shoes and flip them over the line at the entrance) which creates a wonderful atmosphere, since the island was very silent. Weve been there in january, there werent much visitors only a big herd of goats. I would come back with a tent next time, since its possible to camp out there for a fee (toilets are available on the island). For further information i advice to check the Atlas Obscura online, it provides all necessary informations.
