Such a beautiful place to spend some time. As fans of the movie Big Fish, my husband & I found ourselves here on a road trip to Tennessee from Florida. Spectre was all we expected and then some! Well definitely be back.

AMAZING place! One of the coolest places weve ever been on our travels. Love how the owners have kept it simple and natural, its a beautiful relaxing place. The goats are super cool and the old movie set town of Spectre truly makes it one of a kind. Highly worth a detour or an entire trip! Check it out.

Have spent time here on multiple occasions. For the day and overnight camping. Both experience have been wonderful. Clean, quite and serene piece of Alabama land. Will be back to enjoy again soon.

Me and my boyfriend camped here for 3 nights and love it. We were originally planning for one night, but kept adding days. Our campsite was private and had our own little beach.On the weekend the sites filled up, but on Monday night we felt like we had the place to ourselves. You pay at the entrance gate and it is $10 per person for camping (or $3 per person for the day).If you are a birder or animal lover there are tons of birds, the goats are adorable and we even saw a fox squirrel swim across the river to our campsite! Hundreds of cormorants roost in the trees along the island. We also saw a wild turkey, a kingfisher, red headed woodpeckers, great blue herons and many more!I highly recommend staying here!

If you love the movie Big Fish you’ll find your story here ️ There is definitely something special about this island that stirs the heart. Beautiful place to picnic, fish, kayak, camp, play with baby goats or just hang around in a hammock.It feels like the place where every great story begins. My father and uncle had a few “fish tales” of their own so I felt a connection to this place, and of course the movie. The owners were the nicest people to talk to and made sure we would be ok even though we were the only campers that night. (There are full time residents there to keep things straight every night)Things to Know before you go: there are only a couple of places with electric hookup and you can camp near any of the fire pits but not in or around the movie set or picnic pavilion. Also keep in mind that there no grills available. If you like trains -it’ll be a great night but if you’re sleep sensitive, bring earplugs. With a bit of preparation and planning, you’ll get to experience one of Alabama’s best kept secrets.Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer.

Beautiful island, awesome scenery especially if you are a fan of the movie Big fish. Also, they have goats and there was quite a few baby goats, so what could be better? Just watch out where you step and youll enjoy it!

My husband and I took a day trip to Jackson Lake Island. It was a fun, beautiful, and relaxing experience. We loved seeing the old movie set, and the spent a long time with the goats. It was a great day, and we will be back to camp when the weather is cooler. Highly recommend!

I am so happy I discovered this place. Not only is it unique on the fact that Big Fish was filmed here, but it has a bunch of delightful goats and the views are breathtaking!

Drive into a magical getaway. The worries of today melt away as you walk among the baby goats and visit the town of Spectre, the abandoned set used in Big Fish. You can bring a picnic for there are picnic benches around the island if you don’t mind a few goats coming to investigate! You may also camp on the island or go boating and fishing in the lake. Relaxing and wonderful place to bring the children. Recommend you visit soon!

A hidden gem that features the old film set of Tim Burton’s “Big Fish.” Check out the wild goats that roam the area! They are beautiful and it’ll be great to snap photos. A nice way to spend an afternoon. And don’t forget to bring exact cash for the entrance fee!

This place is the best. Awesome place to stretch your legs, pet the goats, relive your BIG FISH memories, or camp feet from the water. Truly a gem.

We came here to see the town of Spectre just as a funny thing to do nothing really serious and when we got out there what we thought was going to be a 10-minute stay turned into a 2-hour stay because it was beautiful they had a nice benches where you could just sit in the swing and enjoy the view and when the wind blew it was comfortable coming off the water there is a ton of goats when we came in we seen the signs to watch out for the goats and we thought it was for the movie set that was abandoned here and when we turn the corner we seem 30 goats it was just a fun cherry on top of the day. Its $3 a person to get in and they had really nice little camping spots where you can pay $10 a person we completely plan on making time to come out and camp

We had a wonderful visit last year - plan to head back up again next weekend. The property owners are wonderful people. It is a nice, close and affordable getaway for us.... and of course we love the goats too!

Great place to spend a weekend.Quiet and lovely.The only downside is regarding the bathroom; no light at ladies side and the water smells/tastes like iron. Its not very pleasant.Thats a detail and we enjoyed our stay.We will come back, someday.Thumbs up for the goats.

“Time stops when dreams come true before you, Time stops when fantasy is real”Today was a fantastic day, Lauren and I rented a car and drove from Louisiana to Alabama. We were headed to Jackson Lake Island or the Town of Spectre! And it was magical! Bring here was so inspiring, just to stand where Edward stood was inspirational. And I hope I can by half the adventurer he was!

The town of spectre is my second favorite thing to do there besides kyaking, petting goats, and swimming. Has a really nice sunset in most locations.

Great place to fish, canoe or kayak! Fun to see the town of Spectre and pet the friendly goats. I would not recommend swimming there.

Adorable goats and beautiful scenery!

Really neat place! We parked our RV here for a few nights ($10/person) and both walked (before the road to the island flooded over) and kayaked over to the island to see the goats and Town of Spectre. The little community of RV dwellers on the mainland side are kind and welcoming. The Bright family (owners of the island and land) was also very charming and clearly love their property - it shows in the upkeep and their willingness to share their gem with the community. The island was popular with local fisherpeople while we were there.

Great getaway whether you want to camp, fish, or just relax for a day. There are goats that roam freely and my kids love it. It is $3 per person to get in, but i promise its worth it. Make sure to visit the set of the movie Big Fish!

I came for the town of Spectre, but stayed for the beautiful scenery and solitude. Also to hang out with 30+ goats (I counted!). Most of my time was spent reading by the river on a swinging bench. Worth $3 for the day or $10 for the night, easily. Ill be back.

This is neatest lil place that most dont know about. Lots to do and secluded. Fishing, kayaking, and of course walking movie set town is great. There was a sooooo many cute goats there you may spend more time with them then anything else there.

Pretty neat to visit but difficult to get into. The entry system is long overdue for an update.

We went to visit this place, because of the movie BIG FISH. It was such a beautiful place to visit. Surprisingly easy to get to. It is sad to see the place slowly deteriorating (mainly because of weather), so visit soon if possible. There is an entry fee of $3 per person for the full day. The goats were very friendly! I plan to visit again!

Great place for a picnic

Big Fish is one of my favorite movies ever. When I heard that I could visit this island and see the abandoned movie set I had to make the trip from New Jersey. The entrance was easy to find and the instructions for submitting payment and calling for the gate code was super easy. The island is beautiful and full of nature. The movie set was amazing to see and walking down the street you cant help but feel like Edward Bloom in the movie. While taking some photos the goats came right over to us to see what was going on. They were very friendly and photogenic. Hahah!! It was icing on the cake for this trip. Im so glad that we made this trip as a family.

Very disappointed with my very short experience.I arrived at 7:30 pm and started to go through the night payment process. When I called for the code I was told if was too muddy and they would not let me in because it was dark and too many trouble makers in the area and I was out of luck even though I just drove 4 hours to get there.Meanwhile in the time of me writing this review an semi shirtless man in a loud Subaru rolled up, punched in the code and revved his way through the fence.I couldnt be more disappointed with how I was immediately judged and told to go when clearly they were open for business.This could have been a great experience on an iconic island but instead was left trying to find a new place to stay.

For those relaxing weekends, bring the boat, kayaks, and/or bikes to take leisurely cruises around the island.Many locals take advantage of the boat ramps, on Jackson Lake Island, as an entry to the Alabama River. A variety of freshwater fish continuously flow through the lake, attracting anglers as they attempt to land that big fish. Bank fishing is also permitted.The Island is home to the Town of Spectre movie set from the film Big Fish. It is fun to walk down the street to see the buildings and the shoes that are still being collected and tossed over the line.While visiting the movie set, it is almost guaranteed you will be greeted by a goat or two. If you have little ones, they are sure to love on them as they roam freely around the island.In addition to the movie set and the goats, the island is made up of rolling grassy hills with a private events cabin to make the perfect space to host your special event (babyshowers, birthdays, weddings, family reunions, etc.).

Visited here for a friends wedding. The Island is super cool, and really interesting. It has a campground that I never knew even existed. Give it a visit one day!

Its a great place to take the kids fishing. They also have a play ground. You can rent the pavilion with picnic tables and they have a boat ramp. Its very clean and new bathrooms. They shot the movie Big Fish there and the old town is still there. They are always trying to improve the grounds for a better experience. Love it...

If you have kids, make sure to bring snacks to feed the goats.

Wow what a true treat. This place is a very small island that you can drive into. The movie Fish was filmed there. When I drove around the island I could see that there were buildings there that looked very old. I thought they were very beautiful but ended up they were part of the scene from the movie fish. They keep this place well-cut. They keep it neat and clean. The bathrooms are neat and clean. The place is just an overall wonderful family place. This is great for canoeing and fishing. They even have goats on this island. You will not be sorry driving on this island if nothing else to drive around and look. They have done a great job with this well manicured diamond. I am going back next weekend and it is a 2 1/2 hour drive.

Nice little donut looking lake, very beautiful trees and not to mention this was once a movie setting for Big Fish . Although I didnt catch any big fish that day I still had fun catching some Bluegill .

If you are looking for a 5 star resort, this place is not for you. But, if you enjoy the outdoors, roasting marshmallows or making smores over an open fire, camping, hiking, biking, fishing or star glazing, then this place is for you! Native goats roam freely while you walk through the town of Spectre, which was built for the movie Big Fish.This island is managed by a couple who will do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable.This is a 5 star paradise where wonderful memories are made.David and Rhonda H.

Wonderful place to camp... spent two nights/3-days tent camping with a Facebook group of 7 on three campsites. Amenities included electric (look under the electric boxes on poles scattered around the area), parking on site, fire ring. Restrooms have two toilet stalls and one shower per gender.Be aware that goats *will* show up on your campsite... sometimes just a couple, other times 30! Theyre incredibly blase goats, more used to people than people are used to them. ;) If they get too intrusive or start mobbing you, a slightly raised voice and a hat will easily shoo them away.The butterfly in the accompanying pic literally fell into my hand as I opened my car door at Jackson Lake Island... a terrific harbinger for a great weekend of camping at Jackson Lake Island in Millbrook, AL.

Easy to get into. Plenty of room to move around, Alot of places to fish and a large herd of goats to play with.

This is one of my secret getaways. Especially fall. People come out during the day on weekends but evenings and weekdays its only a few out here.

Fun with the family. need to go early in the morning or later in the afternoon.
