Beautiful place to walk and adventure. Was a very chilly day but we made due. The canopy walk is beautiful. I highly recommend when it’s nicer out.
We had a nice family time over here . Recommend a visit to see fall colors
Loved the experience. Relaxing way to spend a day or just an hour or two
Perfect for novel to experiences outdoor enthusiasts. Theres something for the whole family to enjoy! Unique find in the quaint town of Midland.
Absolutely Beautiful. If you live close or are just passing through the area, and love scenery, I would try to go. The canopy walk is amazing and I dont like heights, but there is an area where you walk to the edge of a little pond and the sight is just phenomenal.
The Halloween walk was perfect! Not too scary but so much fun. The puppet show was a great conclusion to the evening!
We loved it! The rope bridge to the pod was closed (covid) but we explored everything else. Great place for families to experience nature and explore.
I was lucky enough to come on a week day when it wasnt very busy. Everyone was smiling and relaxed. It is so peaceful here. 100% dont miss any of the areas with the rope. There are a few activity areas that are worth exploring. There is a rope bridge that leads to a little section that you can then climb down to a lower hidden enclosed deck. Dont miss this. It is so cozy and fun. A perfect place to go to relax and a great date idea. There is a play area for kids and the coffee is a nice dark roast at the cafe. Wonderful caramel apple muffin. Beautiful views, wonderful paths. $5 admission is worth it just for the peacefulness of the area. Please like this review if you appreciate the pictures!
We stopped at this park for 3 hours during our drive from Leland to Ann Arbor with two young kids. It was a fantastic place to rest and explore. The area of the gardens is huge, its possible to explore for hours. We snacked on the pepper-tomato soup from the cafe, it was good. Especially enjoyed the nets of the Forest Canopy Walk, and the water area of the playground.
Beautiful site. Easy walk with the canopy tour. Wheelchair accessible. Takes about one hour to explore the parts of the canopy. Lots of rubberized trails to explore beyond that.
A wonderful magical place! The walkway blends in well with the environment. The use of cargo nets, metal, glass, and wood throughout the structure brings fun and excitement to the walk. Everything is very well crafted and the designers did a great job with the details. We started on the cargo net site and ended with the pond overlook. It was a great progression in the walk. I would recommend going that way. The view from the pond overlook and the wooden structures are the icing on the cake of a wonderful trip.We visited on a very snowy day, but the structure was not slippery. It was cleaned off and well maintained during the winter. This is a great trip any day of the year.
Photographs just dont do Justice to this incredible playground! It is designed so well and is accessibility for all is amazing. I had been following the building and grand opening of Whiting Forest on facebook and was excited to be able to experience it in person. I was truly blown away! It is designed so well that moving thru it is effortless and you reach such heights without even realizing how high you are traveling. The photo opportunities are endless but the height of the trees and the enjoyment of the space can only be experience in person. The day we visited there was a nice gentle breeze and it was sunny. The shade of the large trees and the shaded parts of the path made it even more pleasurable! The structures are very sturdy and solid although they appear a bit more delicate in the pictures. We also watched the informative video in the visitor center that really gave good insight into what the team was trying to achieve and I do believe they achieved it! I look forward to visiting it again in the fall this year. I would encourage all to see this wonderful place - full of natural beauty and architectural wonder that enhances it!
Wow. The canopy walk is fantastic. Great views of mature trees in a fun environment for children. Many fun things to do and see for people of all ages. Consider an annual pass and come back often to watch the changing seasons.
So very beautiful, The Canopy Walk within the Whiting Forest is the longest canopy walk in the US. There walk lets you see the forest from a treetop angle. There are also interesting structures/sculptures, web netting you can walk on and a glass bottom platform. After walking the canopy, you can walk through the forest to the awesome playground and lunch/snack at the large cafe.Great intergenerational activity for young and young at heart.
I love this very unique and gorgeous canopy walk. If you love the beauty of nature and not afraid of heights, this is a must see on your bucket list. The views are spectacular and breathtaking. And the best part of it all - it’s connected to Dow Gardens! Come to Midland Michigan and see for yourself!
Loved it and highly recommend going. To see the whole garden would take a few hours so prepare accordingly.
Great place to take the family for a quick outdoor hike. lots of modern facilities and great scenery. The canopy walk is pretty neat and the playground is great for the kids to burn off some energy.
Be prepared with water, comfortable shoes and a camera. Very cool place. Really really nice to spend a day wandering around
We all loved it. The area is clean and really well taken care off. There is a paved trail and another covered with wood chips that goes around the park, really nice place to enjoy nature, watch birds and relax. There is a playground designed to go along the main theme of the park. The cafeteria is really comfortable, has a fireplace for the cold days and our coffee and snacks were really good. Totally recommend it.
Awesome time. Beautiful grounds. Perfect family time spent in nature
Great exercise with refreshing outdoor views, smells, critters, native plants and stop-to-rest areas.
Very pretty, wish they had electric mobility chair, they did have wheel chairs but very hard to push
A beautiful park to explore! Even if its busy the park is large enough that it never feels crowded. The Aerial park is worth every penny of admission, add the Dow Gardens and its a day well filled with beauty and fun. Its perfect for an entire family!
Very nice, enjoyed it.
A beautiful Garden Full of Flora and fauna and great Stroll in the treetops A wonderful place to bring your children and your self, a Must do in Midland
Everything top notch here and the price is reasonable. Consider the annual pass since its only the cost of 2 trips. The elevated boardwalk is everything youve probably been hearing about. It extends to 3 points that each have unique features, with fun little pit stops along the way.A unique take on a splash park will greet you after the visitor center. Traditional slides and swings are sort of hidden among several water features. Any kid that can walk will enjoy this place. Finally, my group wandered the trails. Many of them snake around the ponds that you can see from the overlooks. These arent just trails cut out randomly in the woods. Theyve placed chairs, benches, and even a fire bowl throughout the paths in addition to the beautiful features. This was a great place to bring my family and it sounds like its still growing.
Take a day to venture through the forest and test your fears of heights and climb to the top of a wood egg sculpture. Beautiful trails and great family place. Kids area gift shop with great coffee and hot cocoa. Delicious pastries too. A great time for all.
Beautiful place. Although a very manicured forest floor was odd to me. I bought a annual pass and plan to return.
Wonderful experience. You do have to set a reservation but its worth it. Just beautiful.
Great opportunity to enjoy nature. Loved the rose garden, loved the canopy walk. Felt safe. Will def be back when completely open.
A lovely romp through the woods.
Very pretty views. Cool place to walk around. I enjoyed it
The canopy walk is very enjoyable. It is not long, it is not difficult - it is even wheelchair accessible - with plenty of seating if one needs to take a break or to just relax and enjoy the scenery. I went on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds and it was perfect. The canopy is primarily in the pines, providing some protection from the sun. Fabulous for all ages! Highly recommend walking the paths underneath and around the canopy, too. Your ticket also gains you admission to the Dow Gardens, which are lovely year round.
This was our first visit to the new canopy walk. The grounds here at Whiting Forest are beautiful and wonderfully maintained. The canopy walk is gently angled and easily accessible for everyone and the views are amazing! There is an amazing play area for children, near the cafe building.Your pass for the Whiting Forest and canopy walk will also give you access to Dow Gardens and vice versa. A day pass is $10 for adults and only $2 for kids up to 16 years of age. I am sure this would be even more amazing in the fall with the fall colors.
The tree walks was super cool, but not for anyone with a fear of heights. They have a glass floor area if you wanna give that a try, and some nets you can climb on.The foresty paths were pretty cool, and there were a ton of frogs in the ponds. The one down side was the rope bridge. Everyone wants to climb it to the little tree house thingy, but you have to play traffic cop to get people back before more can go. Itd be nice if there was an in and an out rope bridge to keep traffic moving.
Was pretty neat but expected a lot more for some reason. Didnt want to leave the shade of the trees on this 90 degree muggy day. Got my 10,000 steps in, however.
An afternoon well spent at the wonderful gardens of the Dow Estate. This is probably the nicest estate garden I have visited. Year round beauty, cannot wait to return this fall.
Love this place. Well designed gardens. Ideal for a short trip adventure.
Loved it here! The canopy of trees is so neat.
Nice place. Due to COVID-19, there were some closed areas, but a nice place to enjoy with the family.
Awesome for adults and kids alike! Totally wheelchair accessible. The kids play area is a blast! Bring their rubber boots to play in the water!!
Beautiful place to just walk around. The canopy which is about 40ft high is the best part. Its a really good place to see fall colors and walk among the trees.
Whiting forest is amazing! Canopy walk is fun! glass floor and rope jumping thing !
A beautiful and well maintained portion of the Dow Gardens. Great place to bring kids.
A great place to explorer in every season. Trails. Mud. Trees. And now a canopy walk that is pretty sweet.
It is always pleasant to be here! We go twice a year. 10 stars.
Very well built and maintained. Great place to spend the afternoon.
My kids loved the new playground. It has different equipment than most places, and a fun water slide for rubber ducks for the kids. The canopy walk gives a great view of the forest. It was very beautiful after the first snow fall.
A super adventure with a great amount of engineering to keep nature at its best. A great place for all ages. The walkways into the trees is a one of a kind and a must see.
Whiting Forest is a place EVERYONE should experience. Totally beautiful, peaceful awesome. A forest right in the city, how lucky are we!
Great place to visit. Canopy walk was closed but it was still lots of fun
A beautiful canopy walk that is unlike any other- up in the trees above the forest floor. A fun way to explore nature!
Cant wait to go back. It was beautiful.
Fun activity for the little ones. Beautiful views.
If you love nature you should go here
Nice place. Slightly relaxing and nature-like. One of the things that ruined it is the loud car noises from the roads nearby
Amazing place to visit especially in Fall. Can probably see every possible color of foliage. Canopy walk is very interesting and nice concept. Tree houses are the best. They have very good cafe as well, reasonable cost food and drinks. All age friendly place in the midst of nature and next to beautiful Dow Gardens.
I was skeptical about this place when I first heard about it, but I was so wrong! One of the coolest, most unique places to visit in Midland. There is an entry, but its not too expensive. If you have kids this is a MUST STOP place!! The walkways and rope climbs are awesome, and the views are nice.My kids (and my) favorite part was the playground. It has rock climbing walls, a granite slide, and rope climbs. One of the best playgrounds Ive seen in years!
Enjoyable walk above the ground. Handicap accessible. If you are afraid of heights you may want to stay on the ground. The apparatus does move and rock as people walk on it and shake it. The end point with a glass floor is rather unsafe with no barrier to keep someone from just jumping off. Overall and enjoyable one time experience.
Absolutely loved this place. We spent four hours here and still didnt see everything. The canopy walk was amazing and fun.i highly recommend this place.
It is a great place to visit for a day trip.
The Whiting Forest is lovely. We enjoyed the canapy walk. It was a cold brisk day. We stepped into the cafe to warm up and the food was enviting. The soup was delicious.
Very fun long walk. The view was very nice on the structures.
Very nice easy access and great informative people working at the desk a must see
What an amazing place to visit, kids or no kids.
Absolutely love this place! Its beautiful here
Highly recommended! Great for all ages! Canopy walk has very nice views and the playground is very nice and will surely be a hit for the kids.
This is a hidden gem inside or besides dow gardens. Though we have visited Dow Gardens several times but we were unaware of Whiting Forest until it popped up in my FB page. So on our recent drive to midland we decided to first focus on Whiting Forest. The weather was favorable and it was quite a good day with no much crowd as we went on a weekday. The entry fee is $10 for adult which includes access to Dow Gardens as well. The staff at the visitors center was very friendly and welcoming. She guided us how to go about things there. Its a 110 acre property including dow gardens which is well maintained. Main attraction here is the canopy walk and I could see people of all ages enjoying the walk except myself as I scared of heights and when the rope moves I was screaming at top of my voice. But still I made it up to the canopy. The wooden strips of the canopy and its shape and structure is the something which attracts everyone. There are couple of water bodied as well. And a glass Skywalk too. Theres a play area for kids with lot of activities. The beautiful Cafe is another added bonus to this place. I loved the wooden interior and the furniture. The cade serves coffee, tea, snacks and salads. The staff here was very quick to respond to things. By mistake I spilled coffee on me and the cup fell onto the floor. There were two staff who was getting ready for presentation just behind our seat. On hearing the noise one ran towards the pantry to get a mop and the other came to us to move us to a different table asking about the drink which was spilled. I went to the restroom to clean up the mess from my outfit and meanwhile I came back a fresh cup of cappuccino was kept ready for me. I was taken aback by their kind gesture but felt bad when I learnt from my husband that the second cup was given freely. Though we were ready to pay for it as it was my carelessness (I was awestruck seeing the wooden ceiling, thus all these happened) which they refused. Will visit this beautiful place whenever I get a chance.
We were in the area for a hockey game, and had the opportunity to visit. It was absolutely beautiful and such a unique experience. Our family enjoyed it, and if we lived closer we would definitely be frequent visitors. Not only the tree top canopy walk, but the nature trails, gardens and playground were all equally amazing.
Such a cool experience!! Beautiful visitors center and a great natural playground! We didnt get to walk the trails because it was too cold, but the canopy trail was absolutely awesome. We will definitely be back in the summer when we can spend more time!
Its beautiful and a great activity during the pandemic.
Beautiful scenery, well kept, very clean, helpful and friendly staff. We went on a Saturday and it was very busy. There are two large parking lot up front or you can try to go back further and hit a smaller parking lot. Either way its not a bad walk to any of the trails.
Great adventure. We were there four hours and didnt even see everything. Fun in the treetops with the rope bridges and rope trampoline.
Best place. Want to back in summer
It was peaceful on a Friday. Great care is taken of the grounds and very beautiful. Cool pod to add a fun element to the aerial walkways.
Beautiful! Great hidden Gem in Michigan.
Nice, relaxing walk through the trees. Dont forget to look up!Highly recommended.
Great place. Family fun
Upon arrival we learned you have to have an appointment to enter. Wasted trip
Great place for nice day! BEAUTIFUL!
August 6th COVID-19 visit. This was my second visit, thought it would be a good outside adventure for our young family, great disappointment. None of the volunteer/employee were wearing masks, except for the check in person and gift shop people. With all the outside workers it made it so you could not walk off the path to venture into the gardens to get the full experience instead of walking past it! We reserved our tickets ahead on line ( FYI its a must) advertised everything was open and you had one hour and only 20 people in the park at a time. Reality most of the things were closed which in these time is normal and makes sense, but dont make me pay full price for half the experience! The one hour was not enforced and by the time we were walking out of the park social distancing was becoming difficult to do. The restrooms were clean. The gift shop...JUST SKIP! I had just washed my hands in the restroom and was rubbing in hand sanitizer as I approached the the store to get the other half of my family that was inside. I was told I could not come into the store unless I used the community hand sanitizer first ... community sanitizer...how many germs are on this community sanitizer,is this sanitizer even safe or has it been recalled...No thank you! . I let the lady know I just sanitized and only was to let my family know we can leave. She said I still could not enter! I then yelled in the store to let my family know we could go now, but I am not coming into the store. As we are all walking away the gift shop worker said, with attitude we are just trying to keep everyone safe The insinuation that I am being unsafe because I was not in willing to use community sanitizer I am putting people at risk ... Absurd! Not the same place I had been to before... Disappointed!
Fun place with lots to do. Great for family fun.
Wonderful wooded setting, Wood trail through the forest! Up in the trees! Trails with many stops for playtime at kid friendly gyms up in the forest. Wheelchair accessible. Park pad gives you access to Dow gardens. Easily spend a day at play. Picnic area as well
This is a beautiful, hidden gem! The man-made bridges that flow through the trees in Whiting Forest make you feel like youre a woodland creature, skipping through the treetops. The natural beauty all around you is so refreshing. The staff, especially the groundskeepers, make sure there is no trash to mar the experience. I became an annual member on my first visit there.
The gardens never disappoint even in late fall. The canopy walk was a intricate mix of art and function. I loved how this is wheelchair accessable.
It was fall not many Flowers but Some turning leaves Play plenty of squirrels and chipmunks didnt see many fish in the ponds but it was beautiful
What a GREAT adventure with the family! It has something for everyone of all ages. There are geocaches outside the park, but adding some to the park trail would be great!
The walk is beautiful and very easy for people having a hard time walking. Worth the trip.
Great experience! Friendly staff, family friendly environment. Will definitely come again!
Beautiful place to visit. Huge play place for the kids. Family friendly. Prices will be going up at the beginning of the year. I wont be able to take my family back with those prices. Go while you can!
Brilliant and beautiful! Exploring the trails & sky walk were a highlight of our trip. Very affordable family fun day!
Great fun for any age!! Love the outdoors and birds eye views!
Super fun place to visit. if you want something to do even on a little gloomy day this place is it. the bridge park is covered so you can visit in the trees without. too much trouble. i have not seen such a well taken care of garden in Michigan. being able to keep those flowers beautiful with the weather we have is a talent.
Really awesome experience. Looking forward to exploring again in warmer weather, but plenty to see and enjoy even in late November (despite the cold). Admission was super reasonable. The canopy walk seemed very wheelchair-friendly, although the playground has some room to grow to be fully inclusive.A mild warning: as you might expect, some of the climbing pods and lookout points have some wiggle/sway. There are plenty of railings and things to hold on to if you feel uneasy or nervous, but as long as you know to expect it, youll probably be fine. (Im particularly sensitive.)
Beautiful and user friendly. Canopy Walk is fun for all ages.
It filled with lovely plants, abundant wildlife, and entertainment for everyone.
Awesome beautiful scenic views great family fun
Super beautiful n fun for all ages!
