Always a great walk, ride your bike. Or find a peaceful spot. Mask up Covid exercise fans, not many seen on runners, and chatty people. Sad to see.
Love this place to walk with my dog, run, take pictures. Excellent for bird watching and wildlife watching. You can see the colors of the landscape and wildlife changing as seasons pass. The trails are long, some accessible (boardwalks), that majority are dirt/gravel/grass. Some trails are shaded in the woods and others go through open prairie. Have your camera ready!
Great paths through forest and marshland. Big loop and a hill to climb up and take in the views if you like. Also a playground and park connected to the loop.
We were on the north west side. This is a beautiful trail thats dog friendly provided you have them on leash. There isnt a garbage bin on trail so be sure you have a way to hold any waste. There isnt any toilets too. Incredibly nice hike.
Great park for getting outside. The trails are well maintained and rather expansive for the location.
Very pleasant conservancy located in Middleton. Paths will wind you from park to park, through wooded trees and past streams. Bring shoes you are willing to get muddy. Dependent on the time of year you may experience more mud than other times.
Super chill place. Hill is nice if youre looking for a short walk, otherwise for a longer walk the whole trail around is excellent
Pretty nice and convenient to escape a while. Kids can adventure. Eagles and lots of other wildlife.
I love pheasant branch because I live so close I can just walk right out my door.
A great area for walking, biking, skiing in winter, and scenic views. Theres a mix of gravel and grass trails through the woods, along the creek, across the prairie, and to an Indian mounds hill top. The conservancy also has Orchid Heights Park with facilities on the east side, and parking entrances along Pheasant Branch Road to the west. A basic gravel trail walk around the park is about 3 miles, plus side trails and loops around the Indian mounds. Its a peaceful place to visit.
Beautiful views and nicely maintained trails right in the city and next youre in the country without going very far. Great place to spend walking and talking with a friend or running hills!
A great place to get away from it all, take a walk, job, or bike ride, and enjoy nature
Lots to do here....bike, run, walk...enjoy the scenery and wildlife. I would say that most of it is handicap accessible (pea gravel, boardwalk or cement) just some good hills. We didnt go too far in (to the grassy trails) but just stayed close to where we parked and enjoyed the area immensely. Lots of people, but wider trails where we were. Thank you
Beautiful trails to ride bikes, enjoy some walks and some good scenic points as well
Pheasant Branch is a place of such immense natural beauty. From hiking, cycling, quiet contemplation or sharing conversation it is amazing. I love it and visit almost daily.
Great place to take a walk with your dog or alone, or bike! The park is so lush right now and I absolutely love how green and beautiful everything is. I would definitely recommend this park!Disclaimer: The only thing I noticed is that this past weekend, there were a ton of cottonwoods (or something) giving off white fluff that is literally covering the ground and flying through the air and when I got home I had the worst allergies Ive ever experienced. So if you do have intense seasonal allergies, I would avoid this park around this time.
Nice trails to walk, you can bring your dog on a leash, theyre doing a great job of restoring native plants and getting rid of invasive plants. Really beautiful Prairie!
This place is absolutely gorgeous. Its my favorite place in Middleton to walk, run, bike, take pictures, and so much more.
Its a lovely park, but last years flood is still very clear. At least the bridges are restored.
Beautiful restored prairie and grassland, natural springs and creek, lots of wildlife.
Beautiful place for a walk and to view nature.
Beautiful trail, happy to see it thriving again
Nice, quiet, leisurely hike with a great view if you climb up to the top of the effigy mound
Pheasant Branch is absolutely lovely! Ive enjoyed every experience Ive had hiking there, and my dog has as well. Its one of the few Madison parks or hiking areas where I have never seen anyone violate leash laws with their dog, which is absolutely wonderful. A great place to go spend some time outdoors!
I absolutely love this place! Whether its hiking, running, biking, or walking, the Pheasant Branch Conservancy is the place to be. The trails are well marked, (unpaved) but the terrain is hilly, but not to difficult. One loop goes from Middleton hills to Orchid Heights. It is about 5 Kilometers round trip, but it doesnt end there. The conservancy is trails that go all the way to Costco, and further! The nature is preserved and wild, recently a farm was bought, and the conservancy is going to expand onto the farm. The group who preserve the Conservancy are volunteers and I thank them for their work in protecting this part of the wild. Thank you. What a lovely place, and a must see on in Middleton.
Very nice park for walking. It can get a bit windy when it’s cold. Giant Indian mound. Birds and plants are nice. Dogs must be leashed.
Nice place to walk. A few hills but nicely cared for paths.
Great walking/biking trail. People were not friendly, at all. Quite unfriendly.
Lovely trails. You can walk, bike, run. So peaceful.
Still havent seen a single pheasant... But the place is a nice hike!
Very pleasant bike riding area.
Nice city escape for an hike or just a walk
With 500+ acres you will feel as if you are in a foreign country.
Its got trees, its got bushes, its got water and paths. Wowee, what more could you ever want
An amazing nature conservancy in Middleton Wisconsin, it includes a number of natural landscapes: prairies, forests, and streams. Great trails for hiking, biking, bird watching, and more. The trail system also connects to the ice age trail and beyond.
Great hike around the big loop.
Nice and wide well maintained trails, had a lovely walk.
Great place to walk the trails
If you guys want to bike ride or want to take a free relaxing walk you can go this park. It is calm and quit. So many plants surrounded by you. There is a bubble spring, flowers and a long trail you can walk on. There is also a park. The park is fun to play in. You guys should try this place out whenever you want to play outside.
Hiked the whole loop, but I recommend starting at the NE most lot and checking out the hill (Frederick Hill) and then jaunt over to Frederick Springs, as they are the highlights in my opinion!
I have been running in this park for over for 15 years. Its one of Dane Countys greatest treasure. Middleton provides excellent support for this unique landmark. Pheasant Branch Springs is a national treasure -- most people dont realize that ... The perks proximity to bike paths and the Middleton pool make this area sensational jam for current and future generations.
So Beautiful! I went hiking on a sunny, fall afternoon, and it was quite busy with couples and families of all ages. Everyone was helpful and in jolly spirits. An enjoyable afternoon!
Such a beautiful area! Wonderful walking, biking, running paths. Multiple variations. Ive ran several organized races here and they are always wonderful!
Beautiful sights.
The hidden gem of Middleton. Hike bike stroll, ski and bird watching. Love it!
Trails are marked well and maintained. Porta potty available at the Middleton Orchid Heights location. Various trails available for ability levels. Some paved, boardwalks keep travelers above marshy areas, mostly gravel. Park expansion in progress. Please check website for progress.
Beautiful colors, full of birds
The city/county should buy the farm next door. Add more trails. Turn the farm into a museum and learing center. Eventually it could become the Central Park of Dane County. If the soil though is crop grade, obviously crops should still be harvested with trails only in certain areasThe area is beautiful. Glad to see the deer population is growing. Only had about 6 deer around in 2012 and now I have been tracking 3 different groups of about 8 to 10 deer. The coyote population is also growing which sucks. That being said, I think some hunting should be allowed when foot traffic is at the lowest around January/February for them.By the way.. Anyone find the sheds for the nice 10 pointer running around 2018 to 2019? Deer was seen in the Pheasant Branch and around Middleton Hills area.
Beautiful trails. Go early it gets crowded after 9 am.
Beautiful trail.
Beautiful area to hike, run or bike. A wonderfully kept trail through the Middleton Community. I frequently use the trail to move throught the town to get to places and be in naturr.
We love walking in pheasant branch. Today we saw wild turkeys and its a great place for Molly to dip her toes in the water.
Beautiful, Peaceful karma full of birds and wild flowers. Great for biking, jogging, and hiking. Varied terrain from hills to meadows and woods.
This place is a serene place full of wildlife natural to Dane county. It features woodland, grassland, and waterside trails. (I sound like a TV commercial right now, anyways) this place is also a fantastic place to walk your dog
So beautiful. Hiking trail. Boardwalks. A winding stream. Cranes, Canadian geese, owls at dusk.
This is a great place to feel nature in every season!
Beautiful places to take a walk!
Great trails and scenic overlooks in the middle of an urban setting. We love it.
An amazing hidden Oasis right near downtown Middleton. Very wide trails. Easy to bring a stroller on the crushed dirt, although it is not paved which is okay for most. Great scenery and wildlife (birds, squirrel, etc...). Lots of different routes to make it enjoyable more than once.
Go here with my hubby all the time
An awesome place to explore close to Madison
Beautiful area well maintained and groomed in the winter. Lots of listening to the the birds and flowing water all along the pathJust a wonderful find in the Middleton Community. All sorts of terrain for walking hiking, biking, or just enjoying narture with a good book.
Im not quite sure how Ive not reviewed this, as its one of our favorite places. We love that you can get in a nice long walk, but you have to commit to the loop - which is nice. Its great going through the oak savanna area, the prairie, the creek with woods, the wetlands and the main mound and bubbling spring. The birds are incredible in the spring time - cranes, pheasants and anything in between - and wonderful for wildflowers and butterflies in the late summer. A perfect escape within the city.
Beautiful! Rolling prairies with a grand view, lake, mature woods, rivers, easy parking; it’s got everything.
Great paths, great views
This is listed as one of the Great Places in Wisconsin. It really is! Enjoy the varied landscapes along your walk, wheel, or bike ride. Go up to the top of the hill for a spectacular view. Walk down the wooden boardwalk through the woods. Rumble your bike across bridges over babbling creeks. Be amazed to see fresh, clear spring water bubbling up from below. The path loop accessible at Orchid Heights or off of Pheasant Branch Road is just over 5K so its perfect for a run.
Easily one of the most beautiful parks in this part of Wisconsin. Its a shame its not very popular.
Great place for a nature walk, natural springs, bluffs, prairie, woods, wildlife. Dont miss the springs!
Stay on the wide path, beware on smaller paths. Pros: wide, gravel or wooden board trails. Generally, marked. Easy access to creek that is amazing to walk through. Cons: no map and smaller trails just end.
We are so lucky to have this park! It is a lovely place that is well taken care of and full of wonderful nature.
Beautiful quick hike!
While it is still under repair, one can navigate the trail fine enough with any kind of non-road bicycle or on foot. Pleasant scenery, quiet water. Great, short route.
A beautiful place to take a walk and enjoy the outdoors.
Beautiful place, hikes of varying lengths
A must see place in Wisconsin.
So beautiful and such a large conservancy. I only walked 20 minutes and still was basically at the entrance. The walkways are lovely and the terrain diverse.
Great park for running, walking, biking, bird watching, checking out the wildflowers...its great for all of it! Gravel and grass paths. Beautiful.
A good place for a short walk/hike and a great view, not too far from the city. Do make sure to check out the “boiling” springs of the Pheasant Branch
Lovely place, has a cool little spring that wasnt frozen over!
Loved the rolling hills, as did my dog. Beautiful scenery with nice walking paths and not crowded at all when I went there. Probably second favorite in the area now only to Cherokee
Nice trails to walk and with your dog too. Fun to see through the different seasons.
Nice selection of hiking trails. Beautiful overlook!
I had fun!
Well kept walking path, scenic views, and little information stands about local fauna and geological features.
Easy 5 mile stroll through woods, prairie, and Marsh with a great view of a ground water spring.
Great outdoor space! Lots of trails and boardwalks! Sandhill crane Haven!
Too crowded for my taste and safety!
Nice place to walk, run, or go with your dog. They are working hard to repair the flood damage from August, but only one bridge and trail is still closed. The trails are not well marked, so it is easy to get lost out in the river bed, but Google maps shows the trails and that is helpful.
This conservancy has several groomed trails that are great for walking, biking, and running. They take you through a variety of forest, prairie, creeks, etc. Run completely by volunteers, it is maintained extremely well. The trails are accessible in winter as well as summer/spring/fall but come prepared with boots for snow as they are not groomed.
Nice trails for a good walk or run in a beautiful serene setting. Well worth the drive just outside of Madison.
PBCC is a gem! Maybe its the great view of Middleton and Madison from the big hill, or seeing the green watercress growing next to snow along the warm gushing springs in mid-winter. Maybe its the crushed stone path that loops exactly 3.2 miles as a perfect trail to walk, run or bike...or add a mile and do the challenging run through the DNR conservancy and up over the hill. Maybe its the chance to see deer, coyotes, pheasant and the garter snakes that cross the trails in spring and fall. Maybe its just sitting on a bench listening to the birds sing and soaking up the outdoor scenery.
I love this place for their beautiful three mile loop. It borders on a residential area, then goes back into a prairie
