Beautiful canopy. It’s about 10 degrees cooler than being in the sun. So if you are looking for a place for a walk that’s not too hot it’s great. It’s also free which is a plus and the lady working there is really nice. It’s not a huge place, so you can’t spend all day there. But a fun hour or so diversion.
Nice beginners trail and hike. The park eventually loops back and you can find your way out easily.
Beautiful park with large bird/butterfly garden, hiking trail, campfire circle and shelter (both available for rent). Naturalist staff provide excellent information about the park wildlife and offer free access to a nature center with books, displays, and comfortable seating. Staff also conduct programs including archery, guided nature hikes, campfires, and more. So much is offered at this gem of a park, and visiting is free!
Now this here defines a true nature walk. Unlike other nature trails where youre on a raised walkway or paved path, this path is very rugged and somewhat challenging. The path has numbered markers along the way to keep you going in the right direction. Wear sneakers or hiking boots to avoid injury. Great for the adventurous types like me.
It’s a quiet little park perfect for escaping the busy city life. It has a 0.5 mile trail that makes for an authentically rugged hike.
This park is a hidden gem! I was looking for a perfect place for my sons 1st birthday and I’m so happy I stumbled upon Castellow Hammocks Preserves. Everyone fell in live with the place. The staff was AMAZING, from the moment I visited to reserve the pavilion to the day of the party. Thank you
Castellow Hammock is one of my favorite places... it’s great for taking in the sights and relaxing with nature!
Castellow Hammock Preserve is a beautiful piece of natural habitat that is near extinct in Miami, FL. This park is a perfect example of what this part of our city once looked like before man came to South Florida and turned it into what is now the Redlands. Surrounded by millions of acres of farmland, Castellow Hammock Preserve thrives with lush hammocks and exposed limestone terrain, giving you a glimpse into the past. Bring some solid hiking shoes that can protect your feet from the sharp, edgy limerock. A perfect place to bird watch, hike and picnic. Try it out! There is a water fountain at the front but Id still suggest that you bring a bottle of water and bug spray! The trail in and out is about 2 to 3 miles. Takes about 1 if you dont stop much.
Found this little park totally by accident. What a fantastic place to come if you are a birdwatcher. Lots of hummingbirds during the fall and winter season that migrate down from up north. Also they have a very good hiking trail with some very interesting rock formations. It’s very small but there’s a lot of beautiful wildlife there.
Beautiful park! Tight little wooded trail with lots of interesting trees. Please keep your dogs on leash and pick up after them. Carry the whole roll of bags if you have to ️
Beautiful Park just outside of Homestead. Even on a rainy day, its beauty cannot be subdued...
We did the Campfire & Owl Walk with 3 kids (2, 4 and 6 yo). Highly motivated and friendly staff. We loved it!
My wife showed me this place and I visit regularly. The trail can be walked in about 30 minutes. Wildlife is mainly birds and spiders. Seen one squirrel and 3 different types of Butterflies. Still worty a visit...
Take this with a grain of salt, because we are not hiking people. The trail was cool in the beginning but overall seemed monotone. We discovered a lot of different scary looking spiders and kept walking into spider nets. The trail is nicely numbered so its easy to find your way forward and back. Staff was in an educational meeting at the time we arrived.
This was a very cool place to visit. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. My niece also enjoyed it, more than I realized. Would I revisit this awesome place? Well of course.
Lots of birds, very quiet.
Great escapade from the routine and beautiful trails in the park.
This is a fun park to go exploring. They have restrooms and a picnic area by the parking lot. The trail is well marked, but does get rocky with coral. Wear good walking shoes. the path is marked with yellow paint on trees and numbered wood posts. You get to a point on the path that loops you back along the same route you took to get into the trail. You will see the numbers go back down to Zero. It is a shaded path.
Nice park. Our Pack camped there the weekend. Park workers super friendly. Pretty flat . Bathrooms clean and the trail is rough but good
Best place for hiking !
Small park but they have great programs for kids.
This place was extremely beautiful. I plan to return to speed more time here.
Awesome outdoor trail recommended for kids
Fantastic place to take a stroll.
Great place for a hike.
Beautiful hammock, this is what Miami used to look like!
Love this place. Been going to this beautiful park for many years
Beautiful hidden gem. Great for bird watchers. There are owls and lots of butterflies too. They also hold great educational and cheap or free events all ages!
Excellent place to see birds and butterflies. We especially enjoy watching the hummingbirds that come by year after year. There is a butterfly garden in the front, and a short, shady hiking trail in the back of the park. Native species around here. The trail is rockie and proper footwear is recommended.
Beautiful nature trail really feels like your lost in the woods. Really nice staff.
Nice trail to explore with the family.
A nice park with a pavilion you can rent. It has a nice nature trail, but recommend wearing hiking boots or good sneakers cause it is a primitive trail. Clean bathrooms as well.
Beautiful natural park!
Nice little park. Very clean with not many visitors. Lots of trees that gave the feeling of being out in the woods.
Beautiful and tranquil butterfly park.
Is nice experience... But the place could to be better maintenaned!
Route note: Google maps will route you to the wrong entrance. The right place is on 162nd Ave (just west of the street the map takes you to). The other spot isnt an entrance at all and you cant access the park. This is a beautiful park with a few surprises. Theres a part thats still undeveloped, but the park is a great find. The have a mini flower garden in the front with lots of butterflies and hummingbirds.
Great for bird watching. Nice little trail in the woods for that back to nature feeling.
Its a very quiet, and beautiful strip of hammock full of rare native trees. It seems smaller than it really is when you enter it though.
Awesome place for a walk. Beware of people walking their dogs without a leash.
My place of inspiration and self reflection. Its very calm and nice here.
This is an older County run park, facilities are fair. No information on the trails, just mud and mosquitoes. I could have stayed home and got bit.
Cool little trail, very clean and peaceful and has a nice community too.
I live right next to this park and it is awesome for someone wanting to have a relaxing encounter with nature. You will more than likely be the only one there, which is perfect for me.
Trail closed. Needs the county to step up and help the park!
Beautiful park. I like coming here for the hummingbirds.
Awesome
Great nature experience
Good walking in the forest
Beautiful & serene!
Hidden South Florida Gem
Love nature but not mosquitos
Great birding spot.
Great place.
