The Bay of Pigs Monument to honor a failed military invasion of Cuba undertaken by the CIA sponsored paramilitary group Brigade 2506 on 17 April 1961. A counter revolutionary military group made of Cuban exiles who traveled to the US after Castros takeover, but also some US military personnel. US President Dwight D Eisenhower, concerned at the direction Castros government was taking, allocated $13.1 million to the CIA to train and fund the Brigade intended to overthrow the communist government of Fidel Castro, which also included eight CIA-supplied B-26 bombers. The Brigade was defeated within 3 days by the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, under the direct command of Castro.
