A beautiful old time theater with great atmosphere and acoustics. Although the theater seats a lot of people, it still manages to be small and intimate and to give every seat a close-up view of the stage. I went there for a Moth live story telling event. You may have heard the Moth on radio or podcast. The event was wonderful, held in the lobby, which is more of a bar lounge setup. My only complaint was that the event was crowded, too many people for the lobby, with about half the audience (myself included) forced to sit on the floor or stand. I think more people turned out for the event than they expected. I wish they would have moved the event to the theater. During intermission, they gave a guided tour of the theater. Very interesting. The speaker explained to us (with his obvious love and passion for the place) the history and genius of architecture and marketing of the theater. All in all, a wonderfully enjoyable evening. The live Moth stories were emotional, heart felt, gut wrenching, engaging, and very human. And the tour was super well done and a great bonus.
They barricade the slides so no one can go down...But no little iron gate can stop me from going down!
This theater is such an exquisite work of art in itself. The details in the ceilings, the sculptures, the woodwork - I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to visit it for the first time just recently. However, I do want to go back very soon. There is one particular surprise you get once youre seated and look above you! Its so pleasing to the eyes! I also want to commend their very attentive, polite and professional staff. Their efficiency throughout the event was without a doubt surprising in its own!
An incredible, ornate theater nestled away i the insanity of downtown Miami. Very easy entrance /exit, even when the venue is at full capacity.
Venue was great, but highly recommend the place to have ONE more bar location so lines are not so long, and also, if they hire the valet vendor, they should make sure the vendor has WAY more attendees to get the cars, at the show I went the valet only had 3 runners, and they were working their BUTTS off... But we still stood close to an hour waiting for our car because they were very understaffed. If they valet experience would have been smoother, then I would give them 5 stars.
A historic theatre with beautiful decor and a hidden Miami gem. We were there last night for the Miami Film Festival. Great view from any seat. Bring a sweater as it can get chilly. Worth the visit!!
First you drive around for half an hour try to find a parking on Satarday night. How come a theater dont have a designated parking even if its not free? The theater is pretty but old (floor and seats needed renovation like yesterday) and very narrow, so climb to the top is very steep and there are no tv screens to see the stage closer. All employees who works at the top and appoint you to the seat are absolutely lost and definitely not the brightest bulbs out there. Its like its their first day on the job. The show was supposed to start at 7.30 but by that time theater was half empty (although it was Tom Segura sold out show), people start coming in around 8. Employees running around with flash lights trying to figure out where to seat people. Like really, how hard is to remember sections? What is wrong with this people? Show started at 8.10, at 8.45 people still were walking around looking for seats. Its absolutly unexcelatable. Its disrespectful for the performer and should be strictly inforced. Show at 7.30 and if u not there by 8, then too bad, you are not going in. Also who the hell sells pop corn on the comedy shows? U trying to listen to jokes and how you supposed to do with smb chewing pop corn next you. So disrespectful towards performer. That being said, I will never go back to that Olympia theater and dont advise anybody else
Loved It!!! Great sound. Clean bathrooms excellent ushers and a wonderful vibe. Every One friendly and helpful.
Beautiful old theater, the acoustics are phenomenal. Although it seats a ton of people, it feels very intimate.
A true treasure of Miami! A lot of history in this building! I was very fortunate to have been able to perform here!
So beautiful! I fell in love with this place. The roof looks exactly like the sky at night. Is so perfect, so unique and very glamorous.
What a kitschy beautiful theater. Created to look like an old Italian villa, its a really captivating ambiance. I went to a stand up comedy gig and loved the place. Cozy and beautiful.
This place is historic. I went to see the Gong Show. There are other events as well. It transported my back in time. It was a great evening.
Always transports me to early Miami when Im here, such a great time to watch a film during Miami Film Festival. This time we were able to catch a show as well by the home grown talent Cecile Mclorin Salvant, what a night!
First class theater, you can get a great view from any seat, beautiful architecture and comfortable seats, there is parking very close to the theater as well.
Love love love love the theater. It is a beautiful building nice setting I particularly went there to see a RuPaul show with all of the drag queens and it was absolutely fabulous! Will continue to go to this venue as it is a very unique theater if Im not mistaken I believe it dates back to the 1930
Great experience with the eloquent scientist Richard Dawkins at this marvellous location. Well maintained and exotic features.
This place is amazing! You might not expect it when you see its facade but its interior is a Mediterranean Revival masterpiece!
I have been to a variety of different events at this historic venue.Architecture of this place is good.Seats are comfortable. Sound quality is good. And the good thing is there are no bad seats here. various types of events held here such as concerts, poetry readings, and the Moth monthly gatherings.
There is no parking, and the valet works very slowly. Theater in retro style, a small hall-room, but the interior is impressive
Wonderful theater, beautiful period piece. Bring warm clothing. Temperature is very cold.
Beautiful breath taking theater no other like it
Beautiful and historical place. Every year there is a Spanish film festival and I recommend it very much.
Stunning theater from the 1920s. The ambiance cannot be replicated. Find something on there event schedule that interests you and go at least once. The ONLY reason I am giving this venue 4 stars and not 5 is the drink/snack selection. Choices are limited for food with a small bag of nuts being the only thing being remotely heathy. If you dont feel like drinking mixers are pretty much your only choices. Coffee, tea and flavored waters would be nice.
Gorgeous venue and great staff! Honored to perform here and thrilled its been saved for future generations!
Gorgeous historical theatre!! They do events there often and are v community based
A magnificent, historical gem. I love going to The Moths Story Slam every month there.
Had an amazing night with the performance by #lahore #thesachelensemble. Beautiful architecture.
Ive lived in MIA for almost 20 years yet last night was my 1st time @the Olympia Theater for the Joe Jackson concert. Wow, what a gorgeous classic venue w/great acoustics & sight lines. May be my new favorite venue in MIA for intimate shows!
Amazing historical theater. Very cool space..
The venue was great, very clean and the staff was eager to help find your seats and anything else you need help with. Special shout out to the box office manager who was able to exchange my 10:30 show to the 7:00 show because I had a last minute complication. Will reccomend this venue and book another event in the future!
Saw Tom Segura here and theater is awesome. Love the decorations and the layout.
What a beautiful theater with such elegance. Its so nice has been maintained very well over all these years. You can definitely tell that there has been a lot of love and I definitely recommend coming here to see it
This is a beautiful theater the decor is gorgeous very well operated plenty of staff to help you this should be a beautiful theater to see any showing
Really nice theatre, its indoors but the decor makes it feel like youre under the night sky.
Beautiful venue- it smacks of all the things Miami had which have been torn down to may way for chi-chi places that are flash in the pan. The decor is beautiful- just classic. There truly is no bad seat in the house. Why 4 star? It was nearly impossible to find parking, and, if your show/event let out late, its a sketchy area to be alone in...
Amazing venue, exotic decor, its like being in another country, in another time!!! Friendly staff and excellent view from the balcony!
My wife and I attended the Eddie B show here in October 2018.The theater looked nice. A lot of great, quirky details. All of the ticket takers and ushers were friendly and helpful. Why 2 stars only? The sound is terrible. We were near the front of the upper seating and had a hard time understanding any of the comedians. People in the top of the upper deck were vocally complaining about being unable to hear anything. Eddie B literally stopped his show because of the complaints and asked for the volume to be turned up. It was somewhat better but still difficult. Its a little frustrating to spend good money on a show you can barely understand. A sound system upgrade is needed ASAP!!!
This is a hidden gem in downtown Miami if you ever have the opportunity to watch a show here take advantage of it. Its filled with character and is a very charming theater.
This is a beautiful place. Never judge a book by its cover. From the outside it might seem a really small and nothing out of this world kind of place but when you enter it is amazing. Cecile Mc Lorins documentary premiere and concert were amazing!!
Such a gorgeous oasis inside the decaying downtown Miami and its store fronts that are out of business. The theater recalls a time of craftsmanship and ornate decor of Theatres past
I would love to see an Opera in a Theater made for it. I loved the venue.
I love this theater, but it was way too cold.
Beautiful old theater from the 20ies and the only atmospheric theater left in South Florida.
Amazing vintage venue great sound and you can see from anywhere
Been to a variety of different events at this historic venue - College ceremonies (MDC), concerts, poetry readings, and the Moth monthly gatherings and the space is truly maintained well. Refreshments are typical, not too expensive. Architecture and general ambience is incredible. Seats are decently comfortable. Floor seats, or first row seats, are amazingly close! There isnt really a bad seat in the house.
Just amazing venue with vaudeville era feel and intimacy!
This is a magical place since the moment you step in. The sound was good. Bring a sweater because it is very cold inside.
This place is fun when you go on the right day on your type of music. Havent had a problem here the last few times Ive went. Very fun bar to dance at if thats what youre looking for.
This theater was very niceas it reminded me of my theater that looks very similar to this one inside back home in Richmond Virginia. The name of our theater is the Altria theater which used to be the Mosque which the history of our theater goes back when it was the Shriners. So its sort of felt a little being inside and having it look like home... Not dead spot on but as similar as it can get.
Went to see Tom Segura at the Olympia Theatre. Ill start by saying the venue looks awesome. Seats are good, old, but good.Tom Segura was great. The reason for the 2 stars is that the employees need better training an organizational skills. I literally spent the whole opening act staring at the back of the heads of late arriving douchbags standing in the way because nobody could find their damn seats. Employees let hundreds of people come in while the show is on, wonder around the venue and just stand in peoples way. The people that work there dont even know where the seats are to guide and hurry people to their seats. Worse of all, finally when everything settles down nearly 45 min into the show. I have an usher literally stand in my direct line of view to the stage and block us. Also, Miami people, stop being inconsiderate @%$# and show up to something on time for once, if you dont, at least try not to mess it up for the people that actually got their on time.
Came here for The Moth podcast. Great show in an historic venue!
Beautiful, majestic, historical theater! Is normally crowded after shows when trying to visit with people on the sidewalk. Otherwise, Ive always had a pleasant time.
Amazing The Rose was there
Beautiful, timeless venue! Lots of public parking lots within walking distance
Magnificent example of early 20th century movie palaces. Was there for monthly The Moth story slam. They give a full tour of the theater during intermission. Well worth going!
The French music acts were great
Good venue. Very well ran
Place was amazing the decor was beautiful we jjstvhad the rose concert and it was perfect
Beautiful theater, came to see Katya Zamolodchikova and everything from getting inside to leaving was beautiful
Great Jazz. Wonderful old theater fill of charm.
Nice theater, but what really matters is who youre going to watch, right?
A little inconvenient to park or get to, but the theater is beautiful and well-kept.
Great old school theater!
Beautiful place to watch a show!
Saw Hannibal Burress perform comedy here. Great venue。
Beautiful place I was there for the graduation of. My son God bless you
A lot of authentic detail, which make it the perfect place to take pictures. The staff is super helpful.
Excellent! I really enjoyed the movies at the Spanish Film Festival. The theater is absolutely beautiful inside! Youll love it!
Very nice theater with great staff. My only complaint is the 4 dollars for an 8oz bottle of water.
The Olympia is and old theatre which requires some TLC, but still has value as a place for the performing arts. Our particular visit was to listen and watch PMJ, excellent show in great surroundings.
Building is beautiful but the seats are super small and cramped. Sat in the first row mezzanine and my knees hit the wall.
Beautiful theater built in the 1920ish, exquisite architecture decor.
Love this place, and the theater is absolutely beautiful!!!
Awesome decore, great sound, company seating and clean restrooms. Unfortunately, I cant post pics because the performer locked up our phones
I like the Olympia Theatre I was recently there to see a play and I really enjoyed it so I like the theater is absolutely gorgeous the play was great acting was fantastic I was sitting the six seat row it was nice those seats like $100 seats so I really enjoyed it I was up close in front and my coworkers was there doing security guard yes my boss said to me girl is that you you look absolutely beautiful thats why you not working huh I say hi well enjoy life one day at a time somebody give you free tickets hey he got to say yes and enjoy life
Cool place with 20s charm
Great staff and beautiful on the inside of the building.
The Olympia Theater is beautiful, a real gem in Miami my family and I have been going for as long as I can remember.
Very beautiful, besides the staff that couldnt direct us to our sits properly it was cool
Great atmosphere great show
A beautiful historic relic that Miami should preserve and save for future generations. Magical performance center as expressed by both audience and world travelled performers!!
It seems to be that it was a very nice theater one day, and now it needs a remodeling.Still beautiful, though, but you can see painting peeling off the wall, old comfy chairs to seat, lack of signs to help you to find your number...
Amazing building. Worth going just to view venue.
The theatre is gorgeous. Rennovations have it looking like the fancy venues of the 1920s
The history and decor is just fabulous. The problem is that this poor little old theater just never books anything that remotely interests me. I attended one film there I really would prefer to attend more functions here but I always find myself in Miami Beachs Jackie Gleason for everything from Earth Wind and Fire to an evening with Al Pacino. I caught Erasure there last month and look forward to Simple Minds this fall. Ive even done a concert at Knight Center (Kool and the Gang) with terrible audio but a great retro band. Olympia, Ill always fight to keep you but until you book something that can compare to what Ive mentioned, I will not be attending any functions.
I went to the moth storytelling event there. For only 10 dollars a person, it was a great time! It is beautiful on the inside. I highly recommend it!
Such a gorgeous space. Closest theater to a NY theater in town.
Absolutely beautiful/gorgeous theatre!!
This theater is beautiful historical & lots of little details to indulge in. From all the carvings & detailed painting of the mouldings all around to the nice atmosphere, it is a delight being in this theater. The only thing are the uncomfortable seats which didnt really bother me but it may bother someone w/a lot of back issues. Also the sound system isnt the best but was still a great performance of the artists I came to see. I would return for other artists or performances as it is a delight to attend this theatre. I would also give plenty time for parking as it is in downtown miami which can be difficult.
The venue is absolutely beautiful but the sound system needs an update!
Loved the beautiful theater.
Enjoying the evening of entertainment and music
Needs some minor repairs but still is beautiful and great acoustics.
Amazing place, very pleasant vibe. Absolutely must see
I love this historical place. Where else can I get a tropical jungle in my theater? I saw Ira Glass here and feel shows like that are this places sweet spot. Not about the acoustics as much the ambiance.
From the Moth, to Rupi poetry reading, to live operas, I 100% love everything they offer. Transportation to the Olympia is best by people mover as parking in the down town area is nothing short of ridiculous. The building itself and an historical landmark and very well maintained. Relaxing atmosphere, always. They typically serve alcholic and non alcholic beverages during shows and popcorn, hot dog, cookies, etc, price is what I would expect form downtown ie 4$ water. Calander of activities is diverse, something for everyone, and so is the price range. Ive been to events here that are free and events that are 100+ per ticket. I think any event here in most or less a good night out.
