I was there for my first hardcore show and I gotta say this venue is pretty cool. I was expecting a hole in the wall place not a full cafe then a massive floor with a stage in the back room plus they have a basement area where they have more shows too. Plus its all in downtown Mesa which has a rich history that Im still seeing for myself. Ill definitely come back there again.

Like how the stage is set and the Main Street vibe. You can feel the history in the building. Staff is great, but the bar had only one bartender and the line was crazy. Not a drinker myself, but I think you can do better than only one bartender. Over all the place gives you a good experience for whatever band or events you come to see.

Awesome place for a live show. Sound was great, temperature got a bit warm, but with all those bodies in one place, they were doing what they could, still cooler inside than out. Drinks on the cheap, limited selection, but all I needed was water. They kept running bands in the basement between bigger names on the main stage to keep us going. Staff and security were friendly af. All in all, great place for a great show.

Dont come here if you like to mosh. You will be thrown out with no refund. Whats more, there was no warning of any kind--just (very forceful) ejection not even 5 minutes into the set. I will never come here again. It was such a bad experience and it ruined my night. Maybe consider hiring security that doesnt have a Napoleon complex.

I am not sure why all of the positive reviews the only good part of this venue is the coffee shop. The security sucks I get the point of when people get on stage to escorts them off for there safety but literally pushing someone to the other side of the stage with all your force is going to hurt someone can’t believe how unprofessional the staff is here. Also the sound sucks it’s honestly the worst venue I’ve been to in terms of sound quality they need to add some soft surfaces to help absorb some of the noise. Don’t think I will see another show here

First time seeing a show there. Got there late and had no idea I was suppose to go through the alley, felt a little weird about that. It was a warm compated to outside and had a smell, but I got used to it quickly. For awhile they had a water jug, which was awesome. Id go again. Staff are kind, sound was good, bathrooms werent terrible (needed more paper towels mostly). Reentry is only for 21 and up, so bring an ID even if you dont plan on drinking, just in case.

Terrible, dirty, & unorganized. Took daughter & her friend for TLG 2016. They enjoyed themselves seeing the kids in the act- (was the main good thing.) As one of the few parents, about 80% of the floor space was open - should have provided some chairs (would have only needed about 15 for adults). Im sitting against the wall on very nasty stained carpet. Id stand & lean against the wall but weve been standing outside for over 2.5 hours waiting to get let in. Consider a mist system for where you make people line up - its phoenix in July... Probably could have sold a lot of water outside! Have it available in excess quantities! Guy came out a couple times giving out a few bottles & apologizing for the wait to get in - said he only had a few bottles - what!? (I think the venue holds about 1100 & im guessing about 200 people were there.) No order on line outside - kids kept rushing the line to try and see one of the acts peeking out of the alley entrance - to be expected with 14 year olds but could have been kept in order better with ropes or lines like the movies use. My experience & perspective here, not one to go to concerts. Could have been so much better. Was humid inside - ceiling fans not enough to make it comfortable. Disappointing.Easy to get stuck on the bad stuff, but to be fair, i thought the lighting was good. Not too dark, not too bright. Sound system was good.

This review is of my experience with The Underground. Its the middle of July (I went on the 15th), and you enter behind the actual building in an alleyway. As you descend the stairs into the basement, you can feel the temperature drop quite a bit. Once inside, my SO and I immediately begin to sweat. The area itself is fairly small, which I absolutely love for a tight-knit show. The decor is pretty cool, too. However, the makeshift bar is set on the opposite end of the stage, so youre facing away from anything happening there in a large line of people getting cans of alcohol and bottled water. To the right of the bar along the wall was a cute set-up for the merch table, which I liked. The staff were friendly enough, so the biggest problem was the AC. Of which there isnt any. There were two small floor AC units- One on the bar (Which others were standing in front of to keep cool), and the other on stage for the bands. The first act even complained several times about how hot it was. Being pelted with the smell of B.O. was a little disgusting, and we really didnt stay that long to see all the bands, unfortunately. It was a highly disappointing, uncomfortable experience and I will probably never return, unless someone happened to be playing a set in January or February, when its actually cooler outside. Were in Arizona with some of the hottest temperatures, youd think any decent venue would have working air conditioning.

Jo
Review №33

Saw Rittz and King Lil G, good show, but one little bar and lots of people wanting beer with their back to the stage. I would suggest a 2nd bar and maybe position them where the merch booths are currently so the load can be split and you always have a visual on the stage, put the merch booths in the back. But, historical place with decent acoustics/sound, very good security with personality, dude checking the line was hilarious while moving things along swiftly. Easy parking, could use another set of restrooms, but most venues in Phx area could. Enjoyed it, will hit it again if the talent on the bill calls for the venue.

Review №34

First off, you enter from the front and theres this absolutely wonderful cafe/small restaurant. Heading back to the theater and its a nice, big theater for just about any type of entery - large stage, looks like it can fit about 400-500 people. And then comes the downer... Sound system was not impressive, not sure if that was the fault of the equipment or the engineer. Im a AV guy, so maybe Im reacting differently than a normal ear person, but why have this great looking venue and not have a kick-ass audio system?? And there was three mics on stage, two of which were one directional, condenser microphones that you use in a recording studio, not for live performance. Plus, theres this terribly loud air conditioner running above the crowd space interfering and overbearing the already poor quality sound. To end on a somewhat positive... After making some improvements, this could be a large enough venue to have some mid-level bands, comedians, and other entertainment. If that does pop off, where to park would be the next fix on the agenda.

This venue has some really weird rules that really ruined my night. First of all it was too loud for me and I wanted to go to the car until I felt better and re-entry is only 21+ which is the most unfair rule I’ve ever heard of. Staff was incredibly rude to me and one security guard was mad at me and yelling at me for some reason. The audio needs some attention because I couldn’t hear any of the singers the other night. They should also have ear plugs for sale but I couldn’t find anybody who was selling them. Not coming back to this venue after having to deal with the rude staff.

If youre looking for a place that hosts punk rock and metal shows, and the occasional rave, look no further. This is the place I saw bands like Choking Victim, Anti-Flag, and Rx Bandits. Its a decent sized venue up top and a smaller underground venue in the basement. I personally like the grungy vibe of the place, but its definitely not the place for someone if they wanna keep their clothes clean. Trying to get a drink here is difficult, but that goes with every crowded place.

For what it is I think its a great place. The staff is always friendly, there are bathrooms that I have always found to be clean enough at least, and the space is good. Even at The Underground the space while limited is good and as for the aesthetic while I preferred the old one that had no AC and looked like the inside of an abandoned building the renovations still look fitting. I would go as far as to call the place child friendly depending on what youre willing to put a kid through.

I really appreciate the open venue to all the different types of music here in the valley and abroad. One thing about this place that really blows is the sound and the heat in the venue. This place really needs some acoustic treatment and sum decent air conditioning. Now the shitty sound is not all to blame on the sound engineers. The brick walls reflect all that sound that is blasting off the stage and is bouncing all over the place. Invest in sum acoustic pads and curtains at least. Last time my band played here I was drenched in sweat from head to toe. Now sure that looks cool, but think of the paying fans that have to sit through shitty sound and muggy conditions. Really makes the vibe of the show less appealing. Although the place is perfect for a show space wise, some additional reinforcements need to be made. Also the area for the 21 and over crowd could move closer to the stage about 20 more feet with some tables and bar stools. This venue has the potential to be one of the best venues in the valley with these modifications in mind.

Their customer service sucks honestly. We attempted to call a week and a half to two weeks before a show to ask if they’d sell tickets at the door, and it goes straight to a message saying their voicemail is full. We sent an email instead a week in advance and they never responded and posted 4 hours before the show that they didn’t have tickets. Thought it could be handled better.

Theres a bar that also has water and theres AC inside which is nice, compared to The Underground because it gets HOT AF downstairs. The staff are pretty cool and the restrooms are okay for a venue. Played upstairs tonight and even with all the rain, weird obstacles in the hallway blocking bands from getting in and out, and myself and band mates exhausted we had a great time and really enjoyed this place. The soundman was a saint and even went and got the band water. The sound check had to be quick so not much monitor to help but we knew things were sounding good by the crowed reactions.I really don’t know what it is about this place but I think it’s the staff. If anyone has problems with any of the security personnel it could only be their own fault because all of them are great and do a good job.Very cool place for bands to play and to see a good show. I hope to play there again. Thanks to all from Riot Gear!!By the way the room temperature was perfect and they had plenty of fans and ceiling fans. The lady at the ticket counter was very cool as everyone in the place and what a great bunch of people in the crowed.
