Its a fun hike to get here. I wish the trail was better marked. A cool relic of the Confederacy, destroyed by Union troops as a legitimate military target. The shear vastness of the complex inspires imaginations.

Great short hike. I did a 2.5 mile loop but you can make your hike longer or shorter. Exploring the mill ruins and hopping rocks along the shoal was cool. Don’t forget to stop by the lake. Also if you cross over one of the mountain biking trails be sure to pay attention so you don’t get hit. Enjoy the trails!!

We love this trail. There are many twists and turns you can actually get lost, which is fun if you like to get lost. There are bike trails or walking only trails and the creek is super fun to play in. The ruins of the paper mill is nice and just sitting on the rocks and imaging life before is a wonderful way to spend your time...it allows you to see birds, butterflies, snakes and other wonders that nature brings.

A beautiful historical remnant. Highly recomend to anyone wanting to see something new. It took a few tries to visit on an uncrowded weekend because its sometimes quite the hotspot during the pandemic. They were lined up down the entrance for a parking spot at one point!

Great walk/hike around the park. The ruins were great. Once native land, then settled, a fortune made, destroyed by war, rebuilt, then burned again, now ruins. The pond was cool as well. I did notice it was 73 there and 82 degrees 5 miles away near Suntrust Park. I highly encourage people go see these ruins and park.

On a Saturday afternoon not knowing what to do, decided to go on a trek to this place and it was one of the biggest surprise for me. The place was stunning green and the trails are not very tough but challenging. Chattahoochee river has a branch in this place the view was heaven. You might not find enough water during summer but if you trek this place right after it rained, you should have the most beautiful look of this place. Good for dogs, cyclists and trail walking. The longest trail path is 9 miles. Worth visiting and spending time. If you are lucky, you will get to see one of the big snakes that live here

Easily one of the best hikes in Atlanta. When the water is low, you can hike right down along the river. Its super challenging and the scenery is outstanding.

Great network of trails but not enough blazes/maps to really keep up with your position within the trail network.

Really wooded and natural. Awesome ruins to explore with kids. The ruins are also accessible by road - but that also means that when youre hiking to the ruins you pass along the side of a road. Other than that, youd think you were hours from the city.

Excellent, quiet spot to hike. As expected, it can get crowded on the weekends. The creek is accessible for swimming. Small portions of the hike are steep with large steps required. The trail was mostly accessible for a child under 2 to explore.

The still standing ruins along Sope Creek are pretty cool. The area is beautiful although the trails to access the ruins from the Park Service parking lot arent anything special, they are well kept and although rather easy they are more difficult than other trails in the area.

Very easy hike that leads to the ruins. Easy to walk around and in the ruins. Hope Creek is also a fun place to explore. In my opinion the trail markers could be a lot better but its pretty easy to figure it out. Parking does cost money but is covered by your America the beautiful pass if you have one. The terrain is easy enough for children or the elderly. Have fun!

Nice trails and hiking areas. The pond is awfully dirty and stagnant. For fresher waters, head to the creek area. The trails are nice with varying elevations and turns. As you reach close to the creek area the path is rocky so walking might not be all that fun. During fall, depending on climate, you may get to see nice colors at the pond area and is actually very beautiful.

Sope Creek Paper Mills Ruins are on Sope Creek Trail which in its turn is a part of Chattahoochee River National Recreational Area. The area of the creek is very beautiful. The ruins by themselves are not impressive or interesting. But the 5 stars belong really to the creek area and trail.

I came here to do a photoshoot. I came a day early to scope out locations to shoot. We got lost because most of the maps on the markers were chipped or broken in half. It took us a long time to find the ruins and Sope creek as it was not labeled on the map.But after the frustrations of being lost, we finally found the Paper Mill Ruins and the creek. It was absolutely beautiful and totally worth getting lost. We didnt get to see the pond. We definitely plan to come here again and exploring the entire park.Tip #1: Parking is $5. Bring exact cash!Tip #2: The ruins and the creek are on Marker SC27. Its a little over a half mile walk. Follow the sound of the cars on Paper Mill Road.Tip #3: Wear comfortable shoes with good traction.

This place was gorgeous. It had several different trails with different difficulty levels. The trails are well maintained and the woods are beautiful. It is also pet friendly, which is great for my two pups. If you go here, you have to take the trail to the mill ruins. They are the highlight of the place. Also, be sure to bring cash as it is an envelope parking system.

We visited on Sunday, the temperature was perfect for this quick adventure. The trails were shaded, clean and beautiful! We saw squirrels, a garter snake, and a dewdrop spider. The ruins are beautiful, I loved how we could walk down and explore them. We couldnt do that at Sweetwater Creek. In case you have a little one... Our two year old handled the trails easily, he was wore out after we explored the ruins and I had to carry him back... Lol ... Some of the trail has a lot of roots and the one we took had a steep incline at one point so I wouldnt take a stroller, Im sure you could manage one but I dont think it would be worth the hassle. Our five year old walked the whole way, not a bad walk at all. Dont hold me to it but I think I read its 1.5 milles for the trail we took to the left. Take a pic of the map when you get there, the maps on the trails have been scratched off so you cant tell which way to go on some of them. Theres a picnic area at the entrance, bike paths and dog friendly. I didnt spot any restrooms which is the only downfall for the kids but its not far at all from other places so it was okay. Theres a drop box for the $5 parking fee or you can get the $40 annual pass. The history is pretty interesting also, give it a Google. (P.S. Dont wear flip flops or sandals lol my daughter and I picked very poor shoe choices for the terrain today)

Hidden hikes of Atlanta - this is one of them. Paper Mill ruins provide great pics by the water, the trail loops around to a meandering hike up and down and off to a quiet pond. Depending on the season, the Creek is either full or slowly moving over rocks with lots of holes to play in. One of many parks that make up the Chattahoochee Rec Area. Short hike- 1.5 miles :)

Its a nice set of hiking trails. I like that some of the trails were for foot traffic only. Some of the signage could use some work. Many signs were missing, and some of those that were present had missing areas where some jackass had scratched off the important parts. I recommend keeping a picture of whole map on your phone.
