Great little museum tucked out of the way off the Marietta Square. I went with my son and we had a great time. It was fun to see the history of Georgia and they had more than we expected. We loved the gun collection; it’s huge and takes you through the history of weapons. I’ve gone back a few times now and enjoyed each visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here! The museum is huge, so make sure to leave yourself enough time to walk around. The man working there was glad to fill us in on the background of many relics. When you’re done with the museum, the town of Marietta has a ton to offer. Historic downtown is just steps away from the museum. Well-worth your time!

Excellent local and regional history museum, covering much more than Civil War.We visited half-expecting to be surrounded by Civil War history given the areas quantity of events during this period. That would have been fine, given that Im a Civil War history buff. However, the Marietta Museum of History offered much more than Civil War and military history. It included everything from Native American history covering the Cherokees and Trail of Tears through the Civil War up to the present day business and civic history. Some unique exhibits document Southern life during these periods, including a prototypical 1950s kitchen, business and manufacturing artifacts from throughout the 1800s and 1900s, and the history of the Cobb County Courthouse. Of course, there are the expected well-documented and wonderfully-presented areas devoted to the Civil War, including the Great Locomotive Chase which has a direct link to the former hotel site in which the museum is located.A good visit requires about 90 minutes, but a history devotee can spend much more time there. For example, I simply browsed the extensive display of newspapers and other printed materials available which could consume the better part of a day for an avid history student. The museum is conveniently located along the walking path near Marietta Square, which also means easy and convenient access to the wonderful restaurants and treat stops that make up downtown Marietta. Plus, the new Marietta Market food hall is within easy walking distance.

I had a wonderful time at the museum today. Spent two hours there and could have stayed longer. It gives a great overview of not only Marietta history, but Cobb County as well. I really liked the story of the Great Locomotive Chase during the Civil War in the Andrews Raiders Room and the Military Gallery. Ill be back!

What a neat and interesting small town museum! Theres so much history in the area and I loved learning about the train heist story! I also loved the location, right in the Marietta square. Lots to do, I would come here on a weekend and visit the rest of the little shops the square has to offer. Highly recommend!

I stopped by here a few years ago during the Kennesaw 150th Anniversary. Although Im glad I stopped by I believe it was more or a history of the local area. If I remember correctly I wasnt there very long but it was worth the trip and time.

Nice museum with several exhibits. Only one floor, so 90 minutes is probably the max for viewing time, but there are plenty of displays from several different eras and areas of interest.

Great place to visit. There are wonderful permanent exhibits to go through and exhibits that change frequently with very fun and interesting subjects. There are some great things for kids to do and if youre wanting to go outside they have an Aviation Wing for the airplane enthusiast. The museum has a warm and welcoming feeling to it with very helpful staff and volunteers who are willing to answer any questions and give you some extra background history on people. Definitely recommend stopping in and taking a gander.

Great experience - easy to miss. Originally a cotton warehouse, converted to hotel. Union spies stayed here before stealing General locomotive leading to great train chase. Some artifacts remain. The rest of museum covers broader Marietta history. Small museum but well worth visit.
