I will DEFINITELY go back. It is free to go and very educational. This is one of the 13 buildings built for the civil war vets. This was the 1st built and last standing. There is so much to see and observe. There are two active floors with more history than the heart can handle. The 3rd floor was closed by fire marshals due to only having one exit. You can donate to this facility. I will be going back.
Very nice place tons of history. The owner is a great guy. Definitely will be back to see more.
So interesting! Our children love coming here. Its a free learning experience. Someone also walks around with you and gives great educational information about all the fun stuff. Old 1950s washer, titanic showcase, items from African American history, a 8 ft working robot and MORE. Highly recommended if you find yourself bored on a weekend .
Loved this little museum. There was so much historical artifacts. The first Robot built by Westinghouse and appeared at the New York State Fair 1938. Artifacts from Revolutionary War, Civil War; to recent wars. First washer dryer combo made by Westinghouse and so much more. Presently the museum runs on donations from visitors to the museum. It is open on the weekend and is located sandwhiched between the Mansfield City Park on Park Avenue and a full sized Carasoul.
Didnt get to visit, denied entrance
So enjoyed our visit to the museum. The curator gave us a tour and shared many interesting facts about the exhibits. This is a treasure that many in our area may not know about. If you have an interest in area history and war history you should visit.
Great little museum with an enthusiastic staff. I got to hear a lot about our local history and interesting anecdotes. There are some great exhibits for such a small museum.
Quirky local museum with an eclectic combination of the many areas Mansfield touched upon. The old timey robot and old pop bottles gave it a real solid Fallout vibe. Worth a visit.
Surprisingly enjoyable and fascinating spot to visit, especially if you get a chance to have a conversation with the proprietor, who is a treasure trove of local knowledge, having personal relationships with many of the people or families of the people featured in the exhibits. Although small, the collections add a great depth of insight into the variety of people and businesses and historical moments tied back to Mansfield and Richland county, from inventors to soldiers, brewers to businesses, Native Americans to pioneers, and more. Our visit really gave me a new perspective on the history of Mansfield. Strongly recommended for all residents and visitors!
Excellent information and attention to detail. The curator took pride in this museum. Many interesting displays.
Wonderful museum. Very informative. The building itself was amazing. A very well spent afternoon. The people there were so knowledgeable! We really enjoyed our visit!
Only had time for a short visit but plan to go back and spend more time soon. Fascinating artifacts thoughtfully collected and lovingly cared for by the curator, Scott. Well worth your time!
According to their website they are open 12-4 on Sundays. We drove up today and they are closed. They will not open until March.
I have lived in Mansfield for the majority of my life and had no idea this place existed. It is an eclectic mix of history of Mansfield and worth a look. They sustain themselves from donations by the public so be sure to take a few bucks to help them out while youre there.
Just off the square, the old Soldiers and Sailors building now holds the Mansfield Memorial Museum. The museum is home to a couple of the original Westinghouse robots (including Electro). There are artifacts from the area dating back to the civil war. There are even a couple of preserved stumps from trees planted by Johnnie Appleseed.
Perfect place to see a lot of local history, friendly folks and some unique items to seeThe model airplane collection is amazing!!
Very interesting place with very helpful and knowledgeable folks to explain the exhibits
Intriguing museum that houses the oldest robot in existence Elektro. See a tree planted by the legendary Johnny Appleseed. A fun filled educational experience for children. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff and curator.
