This park was the first park I visited when I first arrived with my family here in Madison. We were new to the climate, the language, and the country. I remember we saw a deer and sort of scared us since it was the first time seeing an animal like that. This park was great and still holds for a nice quick walk. Was there last week and it seems they added new trails which is fun!I say come visit this little gem in Madison.
This is a beautiful, secluded piece of wilderness in the middle of suburbs. The paths wind through brush, shrubs, and a few trees. They are used for cross country skiing in the winter and so are pretty hilly. Great for hiking or running. There are restrooms near the parking lot. If youre lucky youll spot the resident turkeys!
We like this park for hiking during the summer with all the wildflowers. Its a bummer that dogs are not allowed here even if you clean up after them. There are public bathrooms here which is also nice.
This is a lovely place-- some gravel, some grass, some rocky/rooted walking routes--- a wheelchair designed for these types of areas would work--many of the trails are wide enough. They do have designated arrows so you know which way to walk (due to Covid). Lots of mature Oak trees and prairies--a beautiful gem in the middle of the city. (Bathrooms/ bubbler are closed due to covid)
I use to keep my horse here when it was a stable. It is, of course beautiful, but the city tore down the beautiful, historic barn to build toilets and a parking lot. Great conservation as usual Madison. Madison has a history of destroying beautiful natural areas such as Spring Harbor Creek and Merrill Springs.
Great walk. Could use a few more benches.
Nice paths. Busy but managable. Would definitely return!
Very nice park and well maintained. Recommend taking family, senior or engagement photos at this park.
Owen Park is one of the gems of the Madison Park system. When you were inside of it and on the Prairie restoration portions or around the oak savannas. Or in one of the fern filled valleys of the middle growth deciduous forest You can barely see any of Madison. It is though you go from being in the middle of the city to the country in a matter of roughly 10 second ride in. Great walking paths very good for contemplation and meditation.
Very scenic hiking & biking trails. My personal favorite in Madison.
Great place to hike
Good for one time, Not a long trail!!
Peaceful, clean and quiet.
Lovely park to walk in with several inches of snow. There are several loops to walk which are wide enough for both those on foot and cross country skies.
Amazing gem of a park nestled in Madison’s west side. It has woods and prairie to hike in and you don’t feel like you’re in the city.
This park is wild forest, there are two small ponds and a creek that runs during the summer provided there is enough rain. There are mosquitoes when its warm, but not as many as I expected given the available water bodies. The creek is nice and there is a trail along it. There are several trails about 6 feet wide and you can forget you are in a city, actually you cant see much of a city from there and you feel like you are in the middle of the countryside.
A very nice place to come on a nice cool warm day to take your friends, significant other Or Relatives on a really nice hike. Just make sure to bring bug spray and sunscreen. I personally Have hiked many times alone here and have never had a problem. Its very peaceful!
I really like the secluded trails.
One of the lesser visited prairie parks in Madison. Large array of trails that go through the open prairie down to the ponds and into the forest. Given not many people come here often its easy to go for a walk in solitude. Cross Country skiing in the winter is great and can be quite fun with the hilly nature of the park.
A nice quiet spot for a hike right in the heart of the quiet neighborhoods west of Downtown. During the week there are usually more turkeys on the property than people, making for a peaceful walk around the property. With a healthy shift in elevation across the property, you are sure to get a workout in whether you cross country ski in the winter or hike in the summer.
This is a great park for people who like to walk around in nature. Most of the park has been left to grow, and is very much like it would be in the wild. For those who have kids there is a small play area hidden off to the side as well.
Grear prime rib on Saturday. Good happy hour specials
Such a nice conservation park in the of residence area, provide for wild life and casual hiking environment.
Great place for a trail run or hike. Plenty of benches for relaxing. Usually dont see many others. If not for the traffic noise from Old Sauk and Mineral Point, you could forget you are in Madison. Decent for cc skiing when there is snow. Beware of the turkeys
Challenging trail runs
The prairie is like a painting of purple, yellow, browns and greens in August. Swallowtail butterflies and monarchs floating over the flowers; tiny hummingbirds are drinking nectar at the beebalms. Breathtaking!
A great place to get away for a bit. Trails and walkways in excellent shape. Many form of wildlife and songbirds.
A hidden gem! Nice for a quick walk full of nature.
Excellent park tucked away, just off of Old Sauk Road. Entrance is on the right hand side of the road, just before the elementary school, as you head down the hill towards Old Middleton Road. Small parking lot with about a dozen parking stalls. Lots of trails with plenty of elevation changes. Would be excellent for trail running.
It was so beautiful great place to go on a hike
Quiet and peaceful. Love all of the wild flowers and butterflies!
Love the trails!
Great place to talk a walk and see some nature, without driving too far out of town.
Beautiful! Cross country skiing does not require a permit here. Walked trails in the fall, the paths have a few benches along the way if you need a break. The slopes can get pretty steep and have turns, so if youre very new you may just want to practice in a flat park (or on the trails west of Ice Age Dr, they have tiny hills). Bring a water bottle, there is a fountain but the water was shut off when I visited late fall. Bathrooms are in a building and were clean, well lit, and spider free.
This park is great. The paths are well maintained & easy to run or walk. Perfect place to head after the Westside Farmers Market to eat your spoils!
Great trails. Also a large park in the middle of a bustling city is a nice treat.
Great place to escape without driving far and get to see turkeys that live there
This is a nice natural area. The turkeys call it home. I love the easy hiking trails. There is a few benches and well kept toilets.
Great nature hike led by sylvia Marek!
Wonderful natural park, tucked into a neighborhood, hidden gem. Hilly trails, so good cross country skiing. Great place for a short but away-from-it-all hike.
We attended a Bird and Nature Outing on the prairie plants of the park. The volunteer who led the outing was knowledgeable and engaging. The trails are maintained and there are benches where you are able to rest or just enjoy the surroundings.
Nice undeveloped park.
This park has a good amount of trails for its size and offers a nice view of the city. Turns into a cross country skiing park in the winter.
I trained for a half marathon on the trails. Pretty easy to run around aimlessly and rack up the miles. Lots of little side trails and options to adjust a route. Doesnt feel like youre in the city. Also good hill training.
Prairie, woods, ponds, several trails for short hikes, or connect for a longer hike. Nice scenic overlooks.
One of my favorite Madison parks. The prairie is beautiful! Great for birding, walking, and watching the sunset.
Beautiful
This park is Awesome to visit and excellent year round for Photography and nature enthusiasts.Three trails that I know of here to walk or run during the limited day hours. No Bikes or Dogs allowed in here.Very Beautiful park here and its worth the drive over to see.
This is a great place to stroll and enjoy wildflowers. Benches in the Groves of trees are good places to sit and have conversation or just let your mind wander.
Easy rolling plains hikes with some light woods.... its right in the city but feels like your in the great outdoors. We regularly see turkey and deer on our walks around dusk.
Super great place to go on walks by where I live.
Nearly 100 acres of trails, turkey, deer, and gorgeous views. From higher elevations you get a nice view of the Capitol. An abosulte gem of a park in the city; truly stunning in the fall.
Large patch of nature and fresh air in the middle of busy residential areaGreat escape in the city.
Its a peaceful place, unless school children are on a field trip. There are lots of turkeys to watch as they climb trees then flutter down.
Great place to visit
Relaxing nature preserve with 3 miles of trails
Love walking here. Lots of feathery neighbors
A great place for a meandering stroll.
A hidden treasure! Beautiful spot
A well-kept Madison secret!
A wonderful escape on the middle of the city
Nice little park for a quick evening walk.
Cool little park in Madtown
Nice hideaway park. Lots of trails
So many good grassland birds!
A tiny gem of amazing beauty.
Lots of marijuana smoking --- again. Time to go --- again.
Nice place to unwind with nature.
Excelent place.
Love it
No dogs, no me. Madison seems to be aggressively against people who want to walk their dogs as exercise.
Diverse nature and wildlife.
Long ride
Hidden little gem
Always wonderful

A gem,a real gem! Lots of trails, birds and other wildlife right in the City.
