Really hard to get a good picture of the palm and the Pines. Best way to get here is to drive over the Avenue 11 overpass and drive down dirt road along the railroad tracks.

Super fun to spot em n holler TREES!! on the way between northern and southern California. The pine tree represents northern California and the palm tree represents southern California. These two trees together, located in the center divide just north of Fresno on the 99 freeway, marks the spot where northern California and southern California meet.

Its two trees in the median of a freeway. More of a novelty than a landmark.

Very interesting highway Landmark. I remember seeing this in the mid eighties, as someone pointed it out to me on a trip. Ive taken every opportunity to further this observation whenever i can.No one seems to know when these got planted there. I believe I read that the pine had to be replaced due to health of the old one sometime around 2007 [that is pure guess, but it was around that time]This point is vaguely around the midpoint of California, depending on how you measure it.

I have looked for this marker since I was a child. It was fun to know I was passing from 1/2 of the state into the other! I hope these trees will be preserved when freeway improvements are made.

It is the point that marks the separation of Northern and Southern California. The palm represents Southern and the pine the North. Very subtle but also an accurate representation of the two regions.

Its were North and South California meet. I didnt realize Madera was the center of the state.Id driven by here for years and just recently learned why the palm and pine trees were planted together. I thought this was pretty cool. Learn something new every day,!

Possibly one of the most subtle monuments in California. No sign marks this location and thousands of people pass it every day with no idea what it represents: the dividing line between north and south California.

This is not the center of California, its actually near Northfork but its still pretty cool that it shows the warm Southern California & the colder North California

This landmark was originally somebodys driveway where the pine and palm were on either side of the entrance. Although it is close to the halfway mark between north and south, it is actually about 25 miles off.
