It is about a 20 minute hike to get to the water but well worth it. It is crystal clear and has a very deep pool to swim in. There are a lot of little fish that will swarm all around you if you bring them a snack (like crunched up chips). The trail down is wide and very well marked. This stop also has porta potties near the parking area if needed.

This place was just radiant! A must see for sure .... we did a nocturnal tour with Yunque tours on Angelito trail head and they were so knowledgeable and awesome... the tour guide made you feel so welcomed, entertained, eager to answer questions, and most importantly safe! However if you want to do it on your own during the day time (staying there past dark is against the rules!) it is fairly easy, terrain is made up of gravel and dirt so wear sneakers... water shoes to change into as there is a watering hole you can dip into.. and just watch your footing in certain areas as the path can become narrow every now and then.

Ive been in love with this place since we got to the island. The trail is fairly tame, but all the walking an hiking is worth it to get down to the lake. Down stream is a hefty climb, upstream as well, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Perfect afternoon hike, picnic, and swim. At the bottom of the el yunque mountain along the river is a special local spot. At the end of the trail is a large swimming hole with a rope swing. Surprisingly large fish swim around you in the clear waters. To the left you can find a small waterfall and rock pools to lounge in

This place is beautiful. Went on a guided tour and stopped here for a little over an hour; however, I could spend a full day here. The swimming hole is safe from dangerous animals and clean. The water is warm and clear, which makes it very enjoyable. Some of the rocks are sharp so wearing water shoes is a good idea. A good place to take the family.

This trail is really nice going down to the river through the rain forest in a well maintained trail. The river is clean and nice to take a dip. Theres also a rope hanging from a tree that you can swing from into the water. We had lots of fun.

Love this place, parallel parking area for 12 vehicles, park on mark areas, 15 minute easy hike down hill, bring water and snack, pick your trash, possible flash flooding if rain in other areas of the reserve. Lots of friendly fish.

The trail is located on Road 988, which is a left turn just a little after El Portal Visitors center on Road 191. There is no trail head sign, but you will find the trail on the right side of the road, at KM 3.5, which is just about ½ mile after the river bridge. There is no real parking area. Just pull off to either side of the road. This short trail (about ½ mile) is an in and out and takes about 15 minutes to walk one way. As you will notice, this trail is lower in the forest than the other trails, so you will see different types of vegetation. Things we noticed were lots of heliconias and gingers, breadfruit trees (of the Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and philodendrons climbing on many trees. You will see fewer of these things as you walk on trails higher up the forest. The trail starts out as packed gravel, but deteriorates to uneven mud and concrete. As long as it is not too muddy it is not too difficult to walk, but it is not level or even. You will eventually get to a river crossing (3/11 there is now a bridge to help cross). This is pretty and there is a little pool there, but KEEP GOING! The prize is a little further on.At the end of the trail is a fantastic pool area where people love to swim, the best that I have seen so far in my travels on the island. To the right is a natural pool that is about 8+ feet deep in areas. When we went, there was a rope swing and some local kids were swinging from it and dropping into the water. Besides that area, to the left of the trail end, there is another more shallow pool with a small natural beach. And all along the huge boulders, nature has made little Jaccuzzi areas. It feels great on a hot day!Crystal clear Mameyes RiverThe water is crystal clear – fed from the rain forest above. There were lots of little fish swimming all around us as we waded through the river.Stay out of the rivers when it has been raining, flash floods are common. Some of the rocks are slippery, so be careful. There are no facilities here (such as bathrooms, etc.), please carry out your trash, this is soon to be a trash-free zone.Note: this is very popular with locals in the summer, and especially on holidays and weekends. If you want a more peaceful experience, go mid-week.

Not sure why the high rating... over crowded with locals blasting music trying to compete with one another... everyone packing in bbqs and music, it was the urban life brought to the rain forest... whats the point? Stay in the city

Awesome! Sadly right now the beat part of El Yunque is closed after hurricane, but luckily park workers suggested us to take this trail down to a river. It even has a rope to jump from! So much fun! Loved every second of it. Trail isnt hard at all. Take shoes to swim in cause there are rocks and they are sharp. Water is cold but refreshing. In the afternoon the current picks up so be careful with your kids and animals! Decent amount of parking. Follow the gps until u see the sign for the trail. Gps itself will take you further up the road. Look were the majority of the cars are parked and the trail will start from your right hand side! Take water! And better go early. It is safe to jump with the rope. Just be sure u jump further away from the shore to avoid rocks under the water. You can inspect the waters before you jump!

One of the best places in El Yunque! It is closed for bridge repair until the end of 2018. Check El Yunque Twitter feed (@ElYunqueNF) for updates. The trail is not very long that takes you to the river. Once you are there it’s a magical place. Crystal clear water with fish swimming right up to you. Countless rocks and pools to play in. Even a rope swing into the river! It’s a must see place for any El Yunque tour. Bring your bathing suit, a towel, and sunscreen. You can also bring goggles or a snorkel to get a better look at the fish. Water shoes or river sandals are a big help as well.

The bridge is out but if the water is not too high, you can skip that part and go to the swimming area. DO IT! As of right now its about the only thing open in El Yunque and definitely worth it. Go past the forest service work station and go to a couple of kms. Bring swimming clothes and hop in with the little fish, they wont bother you.
