Nancy was helpful and friendly. When we arrived a truck was in our spot from a camper not around. We had to get staff to find him to move. He was nice about moving once we found him. Our site was smaller than expected but was on the end so we parked the truck at an angle to fit. Water spigots were not close to our site so had to drive around to find one as no potable water is near dump stations. The location is great for exploring the greater Denver area and rocky mountain national parks. The kids enjoyed the playground. Would return if ever in the area again. Negative is having to pay 10 bucks a day for park entry fees even after paying to camp. Seems many states do that. Also they dont give discount for our access passes.
Boyd Lake State Park provided an opportunity to explore Rocky Mountain National Park over a week’s stay. It is about an hours drive from Estes Park on very winding roads. There are some parts of the park that have more trees than our site had. Bathroom was clean although the power outlets didn’t work. Did not use lake. The adjoining town of Loveland has everything you could ever ask for as far as food and shopping. Dump station, convenient water fills, electric.
We travelled here in mid-October 2020 when the campground was about 50% full. There are lots of pull through spots that accommodated both our 24’ hybrid trailer and our friend’s 30’ RV well. Each spot where we were had a table and fire pit as well as an electrical hook up.The bathrooms were very clean and showers were good. There is a super cute play structure with acorn seats. A horseshoe pit and a basketball court were open when we were there. The leaves were changing and it was very beautiful. No interstate noise even though we could see traffic in the distance. The lake has a pretty shoreline with a soil (versus sand) beach.
If could give NEGATIVE 5*S I would!!! Had reservations for a 53ft pull thru sight. #2- out truck didnt even fit, #2- back in site, not pull through, #3- neighbors on both sides so close you could touch their slide out with yours and#4- water level was SO LOW you couldnt even think of fishing! Ohhhh and cost me $20 to go find out all of this and we ended up at Horsetooth.... Didnt even TRY to get 5th wheel in... Paid 20$ to get into the park and exited less then 20 mins later!!! $92 in camping fees LOST and $20 in park pass LOST. All in less then a half hour! NOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOO
Looks like a great place to hang out on the weekends, tons of fishing, hiking, boating and anything water related can be here. What I love about living so close is that the bike/walking trail can be accessed for free all year around. So we can enjoy this great park anytime of the year. (Especially finding a spot and watching the free fireworks across the lake)
Great, Amazing, Fantastic! My Family and I love this place so much we plan on visiting again and again! They have swimming, paddle boat rental, concessions, clean bathrooms with showers, really cool playground pirate ships! And so much more! Only $10 for a day pass! Highly recommended! I wish I could give it a million stars!
Colorados State Parks all offer a great ways to see the unique beauty of Colorado and Boyd Lake is no except. It has a great trail system around a beautiful high plains lake. There are amply opportunities to see an abundance of wildlife including lots of birds.
Park Rangers were out to get us the whole time we were there. From watching us with binoculars to pointing out my husband and his friend couldn’t race on the jet skis but EVERYONE else was doing it EVEN right along the no wake zone, than around 7pm a HUGE!!! wind storm came along and blew all of our stuff everywhere my husband got our truck and drove it on the sand just so we could LITERALLY throw everything into our car as we were running around trying to catch EVERYTHING as we were packing our truck there was a argument between 2 other families. The park ranger came down to the sand to ask if we had saw or heard anything and we replied no we are just trying to get out of here and gather all of our items in the truck, once we told her we didn’t hear or see anything she went on to say our truck wasn’t aloud on the sand and we apologized and told her a HUGE wind storm just came along and blew all of our stuff everywhere and we were just trying to save our stuff and keep our kids safe and we would move it. She just walked away from us. Like you know a HUGE wind storm just came by we were at THE SAME PARK. Smh. The wind storm was over and our friend was on his way to pick up the jet skis so he asked us to move the jet skis to the ramp so when he got there he could just load them and go so thinking nothing of it because we weren’t going out to joy ride on them we were asked to move them to the ramp with the weights my husband and I got on the jet skis and moved them 20 ft to the ramp we didn’t go past the no wake zone AT ALL we weren’t riding them to have fun we rode on them to the ramp and waited patiently for the other people to load their jet skis on their trailer, the whole time the RANGER was standing at the ramp watching us and as soon as they got their jet ski on the trailer the ranger insisted on yelling at us to come to shore when WE WERE RIGHT THERE AND SHE SAY US SITTING THERE WAITING. So we walked them to the ramp and she told us we were getting a citation because we didn’t have life vests on, like are you kidding me everyone was swimming in this same area we were just in with no life vest but because this ranger was watching us all day and couldn’t get anything on us this was her chance to give us a citation because we weren’t wearing life vest in 3 ft of water, we were sitting on the jet skis well waiting for another family to load there jet ski on their trailer. Oh and than she called her ranger partner KELLY RYAN and both of them broads were RUDE like if I’m getting a citation for being in 3 ft of water I want everyone SWIMMING IN THE SAME AREA WITHOUT A LIFEVEST to get a citation too. My first and last time at this lake, I WILL NEVER GO BACK! Saving this lake for the white folks! I hope these 2 rangers get a raise after I pay $200 on Monday, HA!!
Theres ample beach space with showers and bathrooms. Theres some food service available like hot dogs, pizza, ice cream on site too. Theres some shady places back away from the water and even some picnic tables with grills. Lots of parking. The sand is more like very tiny chunks of rocks but theres also some finer sand too. I was surprised at how much trash I saw around the beach area. Theres a roped off swim area as well as a place that rents paddle boards. Better beach area than Carter lake or Horsetooth reservoir.
Nice place to walk the dogs, bicycle, or exercise.Paved trail and a place to boat, kayak or fish.We road scooters in park and played with dogs.Nice and peaceful in this month of November
Everything about the Lake is great EXCEPT the rangers. We had a group camping (8 sites). I was across a field and 4 sites down when I heard yelling. I hustled back to my site thinking someone was fighting, to find the Ranger yelling at people about a noise ordinance. I was given a $100 ticket for a visitor on my site playing music on his phone in his pocket. There was no reason for her to be screaming at us like that. Unprofessional and uncalled for.
Very quiet and peaceful. Great paved path for bikes, walks . Lake was beautiful at night. We will be back.
RV Campsite ReviewWe just stayed the night. We needed a place to recharge the batteries and fill up on water. The place was fine for that. We had a pull through site which worked great for our 38 fifth wheel. Decent cell reception. 50 amp service. The water was on the opposite end of the campsite from the electric. I thought that was odd, but it wasnt too far to use. The electric pedestal looked like someone had hit it with their vehicle, but it worked. I was impressed to see them sanitizing the water spigot as we were leaving.
Amazing scenery and wide paths. Awesome tunnels! This path has it all
Good fishing spots at least from shoreline anyhow. I know trolling is pretty good as well. Quite a few camping sites and day use/ picnicking areas as well. There is a swim beach area. For those that plan on camping for a week or longer there are grocery stores within a 10 min drive.
Nice relaxing camp ground near the lake. Nice walking/bike path.
Had a great time meeting friends who were camping. The beach was closed but had a great time at their campground area and will definitely go back.
My family and I go at least twice a year. We are local so it is not a far drive. Between the beautiful lake, the amazing campground, the park rangers, and the overall walking places this is the space you wan to be in. It is relaxing and calming to float on the lake. You are allowed almost any water device which is great. All around Boyd Lake State Park is AMAZING.
We were tired n needed an overnight spot. First, u have to pay a $10 day use fee. Then, $36 for a spot. Whether u have a tent or a big motorhome that is going to use electricity. And to pay, u have to go thru this awful registration procedure, create a profile, etc. Just to give them some money. And we dont live in Co n probably wont camp in a st park again. It was a pain. For $46 we should have just booked a motel room and had all the comforts.
AWESOME location and the nicest camp host ever!!! We cant wait to come back.
Great lake for skiing if you are there at the right times. Great for tubing all the time. Fishing at night seems to be the best - trout, bass and more. It has a nice beach with a large pavilion, plenty of covered picnic sites and clean restrooms. Terrific for families. Plenty of parking. Since it is a State Park, there is a building near the entrance where boat registration tags can be obtained. This is our go-to lake.
This place is very popular on the weekends. Get there early. All in all, its a nice place to go. Decent Lake for the area with good fishing and a nice swim beach. Not much social distancing on the beach so beware.
Great place, very beautiful and the lake is amazing. Great for both tent and RV/campers. Great trails for walks, runs, biking, all of it. The lake is open to swim and has cool waters. The lake is great for boating. Nice fishing, and clean bathrooms for a camp place. Great place overall.
It wasnt busy there wasnt a lot of people there the place was picked up and cleaned it wasnt trash and everything looks in good order at the lake. I enjoyed saying theyre visiting with a friend looking at the environment of Boyd Lake. Boyd Lake is a place Ive went ever since I was in Colorado as a child and I really like Boyd Lake its a great place.
It is crowded on the weekends, but what lake isnt? It is a good sized lake for Colorado and if you wait until June, the water isnt even that cold. After you get your first inspection, get one as you leave making your next trip in smoother. Seems like not everybody know the rules, but the vast majority do. To get 5 stars it would need soap in the bathroom by the boat ramp and fewer people on the water.
Really enjoyed our time. But they might want to have some park staff clean the trash off the swim beach. We did double clean our spot but it sea some patrons just didnt really care. Over water is nice and not overly crowded
Great location, lots of trees, well kept bike/walk path. Our dogs love the walks we took them on
Very clean! Nice, well- paved trails. Very good family spot. Very spacious. Variety of activities. The marina even offers paddle boat and canoe rentals if you dont have a boat or jet ski. Good fishing area too! =)
It was a nice little relaxing day. The sand isnt really sand and hurts your feet. The water was nice and warm. But very shallow. But nice
The cottonwoods changing color were incredible! Love the bike trails and of course the boating
Beautiful lake!!! Very safe. Easy access. Lots of rvs in early June.
The main beach smelled funky. We found a spot under some aspens and enjoyed the day.
Good camping ground with beach access. You can bring your PWC and have a good time here
I was actually kind of surprised by how clean this park was given the amount of people that come here, but to me anyways the actual grounds, parking lot, pavilion, and concession area was very clean of trash and debris. Parking is easy and getting to the beach is easy if you are up for a 200 yard walk, so be prepared for that if you have a lot of gear like tents and kids toys. The grassed area in front of the beach is also very well maintained with several large trees for good shade coverage and pretty large open spaces if you have a larger event. The beach and water itself I found to be mostly clean of anything really dangerous like bottles and cans, but its hard to overlook the extensive infestation of seagulls which numbered well over 100. Which also means the beach and water is littered heavily in feathers and bird feces, which can be dangerous if ingested. That only leads me to assume its also soaked into the sand nearby. Water can only filter it so much. The birds tend to congregate in a specific area, so easy to set up away from their area to avoid such problems. The bathrooms and concession area are also pretty nice and clean with a decent menu to choose from for food and drinks with ample place to sit down. Next door is a nice playground to occupy kids while parents can use the bathroom and relax with concessions. Overall for only $8 for the whole day this to me is a pretty good park to visit for water activities and relaxing on a beach or under a nice tree.
The camping site are great. Spread out and with nice trees, well maintained.
It’s good lake i like the bathroom set up and the rope line is great for small kids. It is definitely the height for them to have fun. but the beach is horrible it’s like rocks and mud and bird poop and very where. My kids had fun i just havnt been to a lake like this .
$36/night for an RV isn’t bad, but then they charge you $10 extra to get to your campsite...then if you want to shower you have to pay for that which takes quarters. Just charge me up front. Stop this nickel and diming!
Very clean. Friendly staff. Peaceful and relaxing. Great camping spots wether you are tenting it or camper. Lost of people come for the lake and we absolutely loved the trails and huge access points for just dipping your toes. We brought our dog too who absolutely loves it here.
Ok muddy bottom lake. Busy in the summer, but nice and close to town.
Best lake to jetski at in Colorado! Two beaches, two boat ramps, great people, camping, sup and kayak rentals and a beautiful view of the mountains. Doesnt get better than this!!!
Boyd Lake was nice. We tent camped. The campsites are made for RVs, so it seemed small and not so nature-connected for tents. Overall we had a good time. The water is murky for swimming and the swim area is big and shallow. Its a great place for boating.
A little squishy from the clay, but really nice lake. Great for boating and playing.
Great time, plenty of space, water was awesome!! Had a friendly park guest for the day.
Clean and beautiful lake. Making reservations was confusing between onsite and on phone especially with season end. They don’t make it easy or accommodating but we figured it out. Had to do some nights online and others in person? Bring quarters for showers which are clean
Boyds a nice place to go and close to a lot of amenities. Most at the swim beach werent wearing face masks when not practicing social distancing and the restrooms werent open until way late on a Saturday. Also there are issues of motorized water craft, rules and other users.
Love going to this lake and we pay a lot. Should really make a dog area for the water like other lakes do.
Awesome park. Lots to do. Walking pathes will take you all over town!
We camped here in August. Colorado State parks are expensive. They charge quite a lot for the space, charge you a fee to be in the park everyday youre there and charge for the showers (bring quarters-sometimes change machines out of commission). Lake was dirty and muddy and smelly. Nice walking/ biking paths around the lake. Not allowed to use fire pits as there was a fire ban.
Great place for a weekend get away. Close to home and easy driving into Loveland if you forgot something. For those who are staying in the campground area, there are 40 foot pull through sites, electrical hook ups at each site, a picnic table and a firepit/grill for each site. There is access to showers (pay), community water and public bathrooms. In walking distance there is the swim beach, a playground and a concession stand that have treats and ice. Will be looking to come again.
Had a great time, however, the camp sites are crammed together to the point that youre practically on top of the folks next to you. Add in a noisy neighbor and it makes it far less desirable. Well have to try coming back when it is less busy to see if that makes a difference. We did enjoy the lake itself even with many amenities unavailable due to COVID19.
I come here a lot because I live nearby. Its a no-frills place for water sports. North-most parking lots are super convenient for jumping in with a kayak or paddle board. Not very scenic, no special amenities or features. Sometimes the water gets a little smelly. I would generally rather go to Horsetooth Reservoir, but thats three times the drive for me to get there.
Perfect setting. Lots of open space.
Kids had a great time...
This is a fantastic campground on the lake. Very well maintained, nice paved trails for biking, clean restrooms. Not sure why campsites face mountains and not the lake.... New pirate play structure is very nice, although Swim beach isnt amazing- water level of lake is very low- but not much can be done about that.
Had so much fun boating with the family. Kids loved getting in the water with their floaters.
Swimming great, people were keeping their social distance. Fishing from shore not good. Fairness I did not try long and not everywhere
Where is the Ranger Boat on a day like today??? You’re busier than normal.......I had more near miss collisions today that I’ve had in 15 years of boating.People have been speeding and running around the no wake zone all day.I shouldn’t have to worry about being hit while anchored in a no wake zone ever.Citizens pay taxes for Park Rangers. That expensive ranger boat didn’t get paid for for no one to be out policing the idiots.
Great state park for all sorts of different recreation options
We have been frequenting the park for several years with our boat. Boating is great with the South end of the lake designated to skiing, surfing, tubing, etc. There is a designated swim area with a beach, bathrooms, food, and non-motorized water activities, and a second beach further North on the lake. The campground is clean and well kept. The marina includes friendly staff and boats/jet skis for rent. With the quick access from Loveland, Fort Collins, Windsor, Greeley and more, it is a great place for a short trip to get away.
Great place to bring the kiddos! Clean and well maintained!
Clean and not ecoli infested swim beach. Great kayaking. Awesome rental shop and snack shack!
People need to do better leaving no trace and packing out there trash in this park. Otherwise fantastic park.
We LOVE this lake!! With the exception of one thing; the PARK RANGERS. Every time we go we get harassed for something and usually by the same ranger. Ranger Armstrong. He ticketed me $100 because i had my 6yo sitting in front of me while riding a jet ski. He accused meet off letting him operate the vessel. My kid is scared to death of them so we were literally idling in a vacant cove at 4mph. He insisted that my 6yo was driving bc he had his hands on the handle bars. We were also camping, got nailed for having a tire on gravel area next to the driveway. Yesterday, July 10th, Armstrong hit us again because our 7yo and a friends 7yo were sitting on a paddle board in 2ft of water floating. There was a life jacket on the board but he said they had to be wearing a jacket while in the water on the board. We constantly observe others breaking more serious safety laws but they are never contacted...Unfortunately for us, Boyd is the closest, decent lake thats not costly to get in. The PARK RANGERS are starting make it miserable. Ive spoken with the supervisor and got nothing but excuses. This review isnt made to steer you away from this park because we will continue to go; just be aware of them.
Wasnt much fun had a friend get a citation for something that wasnt even posted on their information board, not a lot of beachside either mostly mud and geese poop everywhere will not be back
Lake was great, the pads to park your trailer need to be repaved(hard to park and level trailer).
Little crowded but a great place to go have fun and enjoy the outdoors.
Pretty Cool! I wish the swim beach area was a bit larger and that the concession stand actually had operation hours posted on it, but otherwise it was great! The people that run the food stand just comes and goes. They also just leave signs advertising their concessions stand when it is closed and you end up having to drive miles away to find food. However, it’s a great spot to have fun with the whole family.
Everyone social distances so this make it a wonderful place to get out and enjoy a swim, boating and many other activities!
Not the best place for non motorized crafts like paddleboard since there is too much heavy wake from speed boats even close to shore. Also gets very crowded on weekends.
Best place to paddle board. Friendly rangers.
Nice place to ride a bike and swim! :)
Was sad that i couldnt take our dog to go swimming. There were allot of digs that couldnt cool off in the water. I will find a Lake state park for dogs to enjoy the water.
I like this park alot because it is peaceful, the park rangers are nice and there is a very nice campground by the lake. The fishing experience was alot of fun catching carps, trout and pikes from the peer by the boat ramp.
Pretty crowded, but overall a nice lake. Campground is nice all the spots have power hookups and there are a couple bathrooms scattered throughout the grounds.
This is a pretty campsite if youre wanting to go visit the Rocky mountain national park.
Great camping experience with great, clean amenities.
This is a really nice, and also very busy, state park. There is boating, fishing, and swimming. There are biking/walking trails.
$10 to get on but its a nice place. Theres a lot of clay in the sand so you might think water shoes . And bring a raft or tube
Very nice park. Lots of trees, spaces are pull thru and easy access.
Amazing lake. Very clean and nice
Rangers are a bit overzealous in the campgrounds and worry about the wrong things...sites should face the lake but restrooms were clean, neighbors were all great sites are decent size and the lake was a blast
Staff is very friendly. They have an abundance of visitations and still manage to keep a smile on their faces. The Rangers appear to work hard at keeping peace and balance in the Park. Great place to visit for a quick getaway.
A really good place to enjoy with the family.Eventhough its a big place its super clean.
Such a great little camping/swimming/fishing spot. We go here every summer for a few days to get ready for our big mountain camping season. Its great to check all our gear while the kids can play and swim. Really nice people and plenty of fun for a few days to get ready for the real thing up in the Rockies!
Well, another great day at Boyd Lake State Park. Water was at 60 degrees, fishing was slow. It was sunny with no wind.
Nice lake, plenty of parking, plenty of lake access, could use some more covered picnic areas but still great place by the water.
Nice Park to stay at close to Fort Collins. The Park Ranger was very helpful to get us to our site. The area is pleasant and quiet at night. The only awkward part of the park was the coin showers. Would really prefer they just include the cost in the price instead or get water and sewer hook-ups.If you have a mobility limitation, it is important that you mention it while reserving to get an adequate rv parking spot, which they do have.
We LOVE coming here to fish. Only caught ONE keep-worthy fish in several times fishing here, though. The marina is nicely stocked with friendly, informative and knowledgeable, shop keepers. Ill DEFINITELY keep coming back.
Busy Sunday as always, but very easy getting on and off the water. Restrooms are so well kept, very clean. Thank you to all.
Good lake. Bit 2 crowded on the weekends but Colorado as a whole is the same
Campground waa good and clean; little close together for my liking. Lake was very busy; but that was expected.
