Really cool walk through. Not as great as an actual show but I mean cmon, what is? But this was pretty awesome. My kids are growing up with Bob Baker being a big part of their childhood.
Love, love, loved.....great fun for my son and bought back memories when I was younger
Hmm its free to go. Drive is horrible because so much people trying to get to the pumpkin patches. But Oli loves her pumpkin that she painted when she got home.
Best. Money. Spent! This was my sons and my first time seeing a Bob Baker performance and it was worth every penny. After the performance my 14 yr old turned to me and said, we need to see every one! It was 100% magical. The entire audience was full of joy and delight. The audience ranged from families with small children to older adults out with their friends, and every single person had a smile on their face and was laughing or clapping. There was theater chair seating and a carpet in front for anyone to sit on and experience the performance from the puppets level. Refreshments were offered before and after, with a chance to view the puppets and displays after.Go see a show, suspend your disbelief, find your inner child and revel in this beautiful art of marionettes!
I took my sons here back in th 90s. Now Im a grandma and I cant wait for them to re-open to bring my granddaughter. Every child should have this experience. Great outing.
I don’t know what took me so long to visit Bob Baker Marionette Theatre! It has been on my la bucket list since I moved here over 12 years ago! Well I finally went and took my son and we had a blast!First off, there’s literally nothing else like it, so it gets cred right off the bat. The performers were fantastic and the detailed work is pretty unbelievable. They were using all vintage marionettes, circa. 1963 and they still held up.I was nervous about how my toddler would respond... would he be too loud? Would he not sit still? But this place is built for kids so it’s the perfect situation to expose children to theater! Also... after the show they bring you in another room where you get FREE Ice cream (and coffee for adults) and you can meet the performers!!! They totally know to make an incredible experience for kids and adult alike!Be prepared to step back in time in a lot of ways... but that’s part of the charm. Remember to bring $5 cash for the next door parking lot. It’s trust system and you leave $5 in an envelope with your license plate number on it that goes in a locked box.I can’t wait for their Halloween show and SO HAPPY it exists!!!
A Los Angeles GEM and great for birthday parties and field trips.
Spectacular! Fun, funny wonderful. A must do fun for kids and adults. I am going with my kids and grandchildren to all their shows. Plan to become a member. Love it!
Cool place! Great show and fun ice cream hangout afterwards! They sold marionettes from $5 after also. Staff comes around with dolld and interacts after the show. Very cute :) Remember to bring cash ($5) for parking, you need to leave it in an envelope with your cars registration... Or try to find street parking.
A old and important staple of Los Angeles. Great for kids and adults alike...some of these shows have been running for 50+ years and take you right back. The puppeteers are fantastically talented and put on a great show. The only caveat is the parking can be a pain...but not worth taking a star away from the rating. Make sure you buy tickets before hand as these shows sell out.
I love this place. My mom grew up going to the original location. I got to see one show there before they moved to their new location. We went to a show at the new spot and it’s really cute but it was HOT in their in July. Hopefully summer shows next year will be better ventilated. I liked that they kept sitting space for the kids up front like at the original spot :)
It is an amazing show! The puppeteers are so talented! The show has been a favorite annual trip for my children and grandchildren for over 20 years!Whichever show makes no difference, just go see this wonderful show for children (of all ages).
I went to see the reading of The Night before Christmas by Danny Trejo here at the B.B.M Theater. It was truly wonderful and will make quite the memory. However, my family has lived in L.A since 1960 so my first trip to see the marionettes was probably in 1980. This show retains all the charm from its original days when Baker headed the theater. The marionettes have found a new home in a small historical theater in Highland park. The theater has a few rows of theater seats, some folding chairs and padded carpet at the front for an up close encounter with the marionettes. I would suggest buying tickets immediately since the seating is extremely limited. Dont wait on those special events. The show was about an hour running time total. As for parking you can find it in the surrounding neighborhood. There is also a pay lot for the L.A Dot nearby. It is about a 5 minute walk to the theater from there. Overall, Bob Bakers Marionettes has maintained its place in the world of entertainment because it is classic and unique. Highly recommended for the imaginative and creative soul.
Such a cute show, the puppeteers are so talented and detailed. We even got ice cream in the end.I loved it, and I‘m 25 haha
Went with my grandchildren to see the Halloween show. They were mesmerized! What a great show with a dedicated crew! Fun for all. Do not miss it!
Great for all ages!
Great family activity. Little kids will love it and older kids will be reminded that they are really just little kids at heart.
Everyone should experience this theaters magic. It is brilliance to behold!
Awesome marionette show for the kids. Largest and longest running childrens show of its type in the USA.
Nice place to take the little ones.. after the show the audience was treated to ice cream. Kids loved it
Bob Baker marionette theatre is, definitely, one of magical art spring that nourishes Los Angeles entertainment ocean
Great place to take the kids. Get an analog experience with some vintage puppets in a Los Angeles icon.
A place full of magic & wonder. Looking forward to the day that BBS finds a new home!
Wonderful show! I would recommend it to anyone with kids.
Very entertaining my 8 year old love it
If you dont go, youre making a mistake youll regret the rest of your life.
So glad to see the new location is so beautiful and appropriate! Cant wait to come back and see a real show!
Excellent shows for little kids and marionette fans! The best seats for kids are on the floor at the edge of the show area. A true piece of LA history. Glad its been going strong for 55+ years. The theater will be moving from its original location soon. Well follow them when they do.
Great performance not just for kids but is also fun for adults. The people there are super nice as well. Highly recommended.
It’s an interesting piece of Los Angeles history. Sadly it appears closed permanently. I’m told the building is considered an historical landmark so it may survive.
So much fun for my 4 year old. The staff was very friendly, and I would gladly go again.
It was wonderful. They seem to care a lot about what they do.
Great place and puppet show, definitely a great way to break out of the usual
This is a fun puppet show. They really involve the kids. The puppeteers are good at their craft. The have over a thousand marionettes. The have Halloween and holiday shows. I think they will be moving from this location soon. Thats good because the parking is a bit sketchy.
Took me back to a magical time in my life. Truly a special place.
Wonderful place that is fun for the whole family!
Its like stepping back into the early 60s: You almost expect to see Ed Sullivan step out from behind the curtains to introduce these timeless, colorful, and playful, puppet performances. Magical, fun and unforgettable. To be around so many entranced, smiling, and laughing people, is a rare experience. The post-performance ice cream is the perfect finish.
Excellent!! Look forward to going again.
Fantastic experience for everyone. From the puppet shows, screenings and community events there is always a reason to come check out the theater.
Amazing place! Historic and fun for the kids :)
Great act we loved it. This was how people got entertained back before tv
If you havent been, you have to check it out..... a great atmosphere, and good family fun. You wanna be the cool aunt or uncle... this is your move. The puppeteers are very skilled, AND theres Ice Cream Cups after.... Who doesnt remember, and love those!!!
So much fun. Havent been since I was a kid but definitely worth it. Some of the marionettes are more then 50 years old and maintained to the highest level. With all the digital media and technology these days we forget how entertaining a creation being controlled by sticks and sting can really be.
Bob Baker Marionette Theatre is a fantastic place to see shows for all ages. The holiday events are also great fun for the whole family. For the history geeks, this theatre is fantastic and filled with some of the most beautiful pieces of puppet history. If you havent been, go look up shows that strike your fancy then buy the tickets. You wont regret it!
Excellent show! Fun for the kids and us!
What a fun and unique experience!
Amazing place. Always wanted to go there as a kid. Now I finally got to see it live in action and it had put a smile on my face the whole time. Sad to see it go but they are moving to a new location. Bob bakers is here to stay!
Havent been there in decades, however I cherish the memories of this magical place. My grandmother (God rest her soul) had limited income, and managed to take us kids to this studio. If you are in the Los Angeles area, this place is a must see experience. Exceptional puppeteers.
Our group was 9 months, 3, 5 & up to 66. We all loved it!!
Charming puppet theater which delights both young children and the young at heart. This slice of historical puppetry restores original marionettes. The shows are also vintage. Have your kids sit on the stages front row for the best view.
This place is a real L.A. treasure. If you have never been just do yourself a favor and make the trip. I dont want to spoil the magic of what youll see inside. Just know its very quirky but probably way cooler than you are imagining.
My daf brought he was a cop at tje time he knew tje brothrrx who founded the place ive had several partys there. Im 62 years now snd i want my grandkid to b able to enjoy this experience...me and my cousins had a great time..MY DAD IS ALWAYS THE HERO.. PLEASE HELP ME TO HAVE THE SAME KIND OF EXPERIENCE
Let your child eyes come alive, again.
It took me forever to finally visit this place but Im so glad I did! They totally transport you into their timeless world, and kids and adults alike were mesmerized. An LA treasure, hope they stick around at least another fifty years.
Love this place! Its an adorable salute to old-time marionettes with the decor and a visit is like a blast from the past. Come early to hang out in the courtyard and have some ice cream in the party room.I saw the show Women of Vaudeville, hosted by juggler Lindsay Benner, which apparently happens once a month. The performers were delightful and varied, with some really stand-out performances in the first half. Lindsay performed her Book of Love, which is one of my all-time favorite shows.Im so sorry its being torn down - so GO before that happens! Theyre going mobile so keep an eye on where their show is appearing on the road.
The oldest puppet theater in America, so you can imagine the amount of history within these walls is pretty staggering. The current management is doing a great job of not just dwelling in the past but also booking alot of contemporary puppet and comedy acts that are bringing new life and energy to this historic theater. Something for all ages here!
Very cute and entertaining for the little ones. Fun play and good music.
The best place in the world
Saw a show that was originally created in the 50s. Brought my two kids 4 and 2yrs old. Aside from trying to grab the puppets a few times they were totally into it. They were engaged and had an amazing time!!!! Ending the show with ice cream is always a great business model.
My grandchildren loved the show and the ice cream the theater provided after the show. Be aware seats are limited. Children sit on the floor where they get a better view anyhow. My teen and 3 adults had to sit on the floor. The puppets come to the ice cream room to interact with the kids as no to allow for pictures. Lots of interesting puppets to see in the ice cream room.I gave 4 stars because I am handicapped and the only 3 chairs avail AXA ble to me were up a very large step or over all the kids on the floor. No employee would help me and the other patrons would not only move over, but they also wouldnt help me get through their children on the floor.
One of LAs best places ever!!!
This place is iconic Los Angeles. They have rotating shows (Halloween, Christmas, and the summer show Its A Musical World are the most popular) and the tickets are very affordable. Shows are about an hour long and they offer ice cream after the show (as is tradition). The puppeteers are keeping the magic of a legend going with every performance, and Im so glad the young and young at heart have a place to enjoy this fun part of LA history.
So glad this classic experience has found a new home
Very fun for all ages . The shows are very entertaining and beyond amazing . Definitely would recommend checking this place out !!
An iconic and original place with old school magic happens by talented performers. And its allegedly haunting. Visit soon while its still there.
Although its in a rundown area, the experience is worth the visit. It harkens back to a different time. The marionettes (though slightly creepy) are fantastic. Everyone sits along the perimeter of the theater and the performers work in the center of the room bringing the marionettes over to dance and sit next to the guests. Children are generally delighted. This definitely has to be experienced at least once. Plus... ice cream!
Great fun for the kids. The puppeteers are amazing with all that they can make the puppets do. Ice cream for everyone afterwards was a great idea cuz all the kids loved it. If the parking situation was better I wouldve given 5 stars. The little lot next door for $5 was full. The street parking was very limited..a lot of temp no parking signs on the closest couple of streets. Had to park a long block away...up a steep hill.. walking with a 5year old. But a fun morning...
I have some of my sweetest childhood memories here as does so much of my family. This place is magical for kids!! The imagination and originality of the shows is unprecedented. This is Kitsch Americana Art at its finest. This theatre must live on!
Fantastic show, kids loved it. The staff seems genuinely invested in their craft.
If still open, take your tykes...
Spectacular never been there before, we definitely going back
Lovely theatre what a treasure for the children who get to come experience the amazing puppets here. We had a very special time for my daughters birthday.
Great for the littles and puppet enthusiasts. Most puppets had live puppeteers and voice over sound. I enjoyed the live voiced puppets best!
The show we went to was not teenager or child friendly. I would have liked to have had that clear before buying tickets. I never would have guessed the majority of a Marionette show would be Adult humor.
The oldest, greatest, most magical puppet theater that ever brought enchantment to the world. Go!
The single coolest thing to do in LA! We like it more than our kids, but kids 2-10 will love it too.
If you dont enjoy the Bob Baker Marionette Theater, you have no soul. Absolutely one of the MUST DO things in Los Angeles especially if you have young children. Its a complete joy.
I grew up in Echo Park I’m 50 years old I’ve been there as a child took all of our kids and our family members one of the most beautiful thing ever and experience for children
Super fun for all ages...im 43...had a big smile the whole time
Wonderful for children to experience the way life was simple and entertaining before the digital age took over. A must see.
Great fun!
Grew up close to this area, we called it the puppet show great memories !!
I love watching my grand children have so much fun at Bob Barkers. It is great!!
Always amazing!
Thought it would be kitchy and creepy. Nope, it was fun and entertaining, as well as nostalgic. Im so glad this place is around. Ill be back!
Creepy and completely unaware.
The show was great. Very dedicated to the art. Parking a little tough. Take cash for that.
Beautiful place, a lost art in los angeles thats here to stay! Definitely if you have kids or are looking for something new and fun to see then this is the place to be.
This place is an LA classic and a true gem. Theres a lot of unique events so keep your eyes on the calendar.
A rabbit hole into the world of true imagination
Beautiful, great, awesome, wonderful, magical, excellent and the *PERFECT SHOW FOR ALL AGES (0 to 99 or more)*All my Family Love it
