This is probably one of my favorite places in L.A.! So peaceful, beautiful to walk through, never overcrowded.
What a wonderful surprise to discover such a magnificent display of Costumes incl Games of Thrones! I couldnt stop oohing and ahhing the entire visit! Not only is it free to attend, but the welcome table at the main entrance full of fresh lemonade, popcorn, red vines, and chocolates was a marvelous touch! Def the highlight of my day!
The FIDM Museum has two big exhibits a year: one for the Oscars and one for the Emmys. The museum is pretty small but if youre in the area I highly recommend checking both exhibits out! I am not a movie buff and I barely watch television but I enjoy seeing the artistry of the garments. The museum has a small gift shop but they have some pretty neat stuff there and sometimes have discounts on certain things. The is no parking structure but Ive been there a few times on the weekends and have found metered parking nearby.
Beautiful corner of the FIDM campus. When we visited they had an exhibit of clothing that had been used in current tv shows. Being able to look at them upclose was spectacular. You can really tell how fashion is used not just as an accessory, but how it furthers the story line and tells stories itself. If I had one complaint I would wish that the museum space was bigger.
Always some amazing exhibit of costumes and clothing must see is the academy awards nominated costumes
Super cool stuff. You dont need to care about fashion at all to appreciate the museum.
Our revolutionary middle and high school Angeles Workshop School loves visiting the FIDM museum on some of our weekly field trips! Always amazing costume displays
I always love the movie costume exhibit at FIDM. This year is no exception. From the Academy Award winning Phantom Thread (they have a video featurette going about the costume process) to Marvel movies, It, and even Fantastic Beasts its almost to much to look at.Its nice to see the costumes up close and really get to eye the details. I also enjoy seeing how tall or tiny the actors are. Its such a fun thing to devour to if youre in the Garment District.
I’m still shocked that this is a free exhibit every year. Costumes from the Academy Award nominated films from this year are on display. Incredible to get to see them up close.
My boyfriend took me here for a spontaneous date night :) it was a good experience and you basically get to do/see everything that would be open during the daytime for half the price (and theres no annoying little kids AND you get to drink!) so it gets pretty packed on Thursday nights.
It is a GREAT place to check out when in DTLA. Beautiful Gallery that displays of Art and Costumes seasonally. You can find amazing gifts (especially for someone that hard to shop for) in the FIDM Museum Shop. A Very Friendly Staff in the Gallery and the Shop, who helps you if you are new to DTLA. I highly recommended making this place one of your stops if you are in Downtown LA.
Great please to visit, excellent, hollywoods movies costume design exevits, kids friendly, lots of famus movies such as black panther, star war, ocean eights custume are in exevits
A small school museum in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Free admission and a small gift shop make this a great excursion on your trip to downtown. Just blocks from the staples center the FIDM Museum offers fashion and costume exhibitions in a teaching environment. Worth a trip.
Interesting museum for fashion related things. Saw tv show costumes that were popular. Was nice to see just a little small. But it was free and you cant beat that.
A must see if you love the oscars. All the costumes are on display. Free entrance
This is a free annual exhibit of costumes from movies. This year was special because of the variety from simple to very extravagant.
Never a disappointment I went to school here and now I use my schooling to dress breast cancer survivors as pinups..look me up!
Super cool getting to see the outfits from the big recent movies up close in person
Interested in Movie custom? Visit the FIDM
Lovely gallery. Costume design exhibit is beautiful.
Fabulous fashion museum with costumes from Game of Thrones, Pose, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The.Masked Singer and many more. Very inspiring!
Wonderful exhibit of many costumes from some nominated movies of 2018. Highlights were the costumes from Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Mary Poppins. A delight to see!!
This is a wonderful museum, often crammed (but well displayed)with fashion and fashionable folks, many from the FIDM school, who will be the leaders of fashion (long after Im dead). theexhibits are superb, you can take photos, the guards are veryfriendly and then you can go next door to the gift shop andchoose from a wonderful array of merchandise. The manager,Judy, does more than just tolerate my lack of patience andthey have had many special events which are first rate. A gem.
Being in LA, the focus is on Hollywood. The current exhibit is costumes from recent movies. Unlike fake movie sets, these garments are meticulously designed and created. Not for grumpy (straight) husbands
Cute lil museum... I love it here
Fantastic exhibitions well laid out and curated!
EXCELLENT Exhibits! And FREE!
Great exhibits, and they are free to enjoy. If you love fashion and costumes, this should definitely be on your list of places to visit when in L.A.
Had a nice display of movie wardrobes, wish it was bigger
Ive made visiting the FREE! Oscar and Emmy nominated FIDM costume exibition a tradition. Get up close and personal to your favorite movie and TV costumes in an elegantly curated space. There is also an informative historic costume display area with revolving shows of vintage/historic clothing, and how they were designed and made. Late fashion icon Betsy Bloomingdale has donated her world-class collection of couture to this important archive. Take a look at the very stylish and eclectic gift shop next door. Dont miss the Scholarship resale store on Grand: beautiful new clothing, accessories and fabric/trim at thrift shop prices!
I had a great visit. Wonderful to see the costumes up close and to learn more about the specific details of making costumes for movies. An easy museum to visit, not to large but packed with good stuff. Admission is free.
A fantastic opportunity to see amazing costumes up close!! Definitely recommend it to anybody!
The costume exhibit was amazing. Had a great time viewing the pieces.
All of the costumes are beautiful, and the workers there are very nice!
The best! Great gift shop and always something interesting at the museum.
Always amazing exhibits, always free. Weve been to exhibits at much bigger museusms that focus on costumes, and FIDMs always blow those out of the water. Definitely worth making the trip for or checking out if your in the area.
TV & motion picture costume exhibits are well curated and nicely presented. Ive been going for years & will continue. Shopping in 3 stores, especially the scholarship store which carries donated garments & fabrics at nice prices.
This is only the temporary collections. To see the permanent collection, please prebook a tour, at a cost of $10 per person. That paid tour will allow you to see 18,000+ pieces of fashion over 200 years.
Wonderful exhibit of 26 Hollywood movie costumes, ends 4/12/19
The costumes were accesible enough to get a good look at the fabrics and details.
Great rotating exhibits with free entrance!
Always great displays of Oscar costumes. Ability to take photos is delightful.
Outstanding exhibit of award-winning costumes from movies. Visit the Scolarship Store.
Great exhibit! Must see.
As always totally wonderful! Costimes always fascinating!
LACMA begins with the old street lights that defines the museum. It is great to take pictures there any time of day. Personally I think the exhibits are far behind other museums in technology and some special exhibits are curated poorly. Despite all of that it is well worth going. The newer buildings are set up better and more is to come as the museum gets new construction.
On the ground floor of a leading school of fashion design is a museum. Two of their regular exhibits are tied to fashion applied to media, and provide a chance to see Oscar and Emmy nominated costumes. As a fan of the art of film, this is worth a drive into LA to see.
They offer a chance to see beautiful costumes from many movies and T V shows all for free. The parking is a little complicated but well worth it.
Exhibits are always changing and fun. The shop has great deals. I hate to pass on my secret, but many people dont see their small yardage section. You wont believe the prices.
This is always a great experience. The exhibits are gorgeous and very informative.
If you love fashion (and often movie costumes) this gem of a museum is first rate -- and free, with free parking on weekends. From couture to famous costumes, the clothing is exceptional and exceptionally well presented.
Big space with 30 items :dresses/earrings/belts/shoes etc. you can finish viewing in 45 minutes. FREE. Student works, alexander mcqueen, saint yves etc. visit marked down clothing store to support fidm scholarships.
This is nice, little, free fashion-centric gallery with some interesting items.
Is awesome
Very cool tv show costume exhibit
Yes, it is a very small museum but its to the point. They are a museum for theatrical (film/tv) costumes. The ones on display are usually from current film/tv. On the day of my visit, they had a Star Wars theme event going on. Right outside of the museum they had activities for the kids. And, of course some geeky (adult) Star War fans had to show up in costume.
Small collection. Intimate. Well curated
Small, but very good and interesting collection.
Love this place...exhibits change often and very interesting!!
