OMG this place ROCKS!!! Went and saw Michael Franti there last month and loved it! The flavored rums are to die for! Cant wait to go in and try the wonderful food Ive heard about!
Ive always enjoyed The Federal but on this special occasion, which we celebrated my girlfriends birthday brunch. Maybe its because the size of our party that weekend but the service was sub par. Our mimosas were warm, not chilled. We wanted this to be a celebration for the birthday girl, but instead it turned out to be a lot of entrees taken back to the kitchen, along with frustration by the servers.I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict which I did enjoy....BUT did they change their Brunch Menu?! Ive been to The Federal Bar in the past and found their menu more appealing than the most recent menu. The quality, in my opinion, has dropped but Ill give it another try. Maybe this time, itll be for an intimate lunch rather than a group of women.Pros: beautiful interior with lots elaborate and intricate details to see, delicious cocktails (I order something else besides the mimosas)Cons: Menu (please change the Brunch Menu)Overall, I enjoyed the live music and the smiling faces. Food will be great once its changed.
Great place to come out on a friday night. Great ambiance and fabulous crowd. Music was a wide range. Such a fun night bring ur friends.
The food is authentic as it gets! Best African food in town and if you can, try one of the dancing nights. Best combo ever.
Beautiful networking space and the service is always top notch. Ive hosted a couple of networking events at this location and even went to their halloween party this year.
Had fun meet cool people and dance with my friends
The food is pretty good, original and in a pretty cool atmosphere. Prices are surprisingly good for what and where youre getting it. We had the brunch. We didnt know we needed a reservation but host was very nice and did find us a place for six and hardly waited. She was very nice. You do have to pay for parking but there are several parking structures nearby. We paid a flat $7 for underground parking. Would and will go back again. Might just make it our Fathers Day tradition.
Food was ok but a little bland could have done with more spice. Chicken legs rather than breast meat if that bothers you.
My boyfriend and I came for the New years celebration 2018-2019. It was very nice.
I went for New Years Eve and got the salad and the sea bass, and my girlfriend got the pumpkin soup and braised beef short rib. For dessert I chose the chocolate cake and she had the carrot cake. Everything was delicious. The drinks tasted a little different but they were strong. Over all, it was great quality food, the service was great and I cant wait to come back again.
Came here for Sunday brunch. Loved the atmosphere with live music playing in the background. The mimosas were great. The food was delicious. I will be returning in the future.
Interesting place, our party was in the basement. The atmosphere was dark and gloomy. There was no air conditioning so the air was thick and muggy. The best part was the old vault with the sectional couch inside. I recommend only to see the vault or write a murder mystery. The whiskey options were disappointing.
I have always loved their food, but yesterday was a huge let down. They have a new menu, and was excited to try the chilaquiles. My whole party wasnt there yet so we got some biscuits and jam meanwhile we waited for the rest of the group to arrive at the bar. They were stiff and cold ): who knew you could mess up biscuits! We didnt end up eating them.. the lady working the bar said she wouldnt have charged me if she had known which was a nice gesture on her part. I did end up paying because I thought she was good and wanted to tip her. Well, when the rest of the party came I ended up ordering my chilaquiles and they were like sad nachos.. they were dry! If youve ever eaten chilaquiles before, you know they are suppose to be soaked in sauce. Not these, they were dry with little sauce in the middle. I also didnt end up eating them.. I know now not to ever get chilaquiles and biscuits there.
Unique atmosphere, excellent service, great selection of drinks and food
Had nothing but great experiences at The Federal Bar. Whether hosting events or simply sneaking into the speak easy, we always enjoy our experience. The food and cocktails are great and the beer selection is always solid. Next time youre there see if you can get them to make you a bacon bloody mary. Weve been trying to get it on the menu for years!
I LOVE the Federal in Long Beach! The Brunch is so good and the drinks are great. The atmosphere is really pretty as they have 40 feet ceiling in an historic building. The service could be faster, but the staff are nice.
They have an idea of an old fashion that was probably the worst drink I have ever had. Venue is great and the sub floor is something to experience.
This place has a very unique atmosphere! I love the place! Staffs are so awesome and environment is great!
A great place to go dressed up. Although not completely required. Awesome music. Cool entrance!!!
Great ambiance Good food They even have bottomless mimosa n brunch deals
The drinks are tasty. The food is good... all depends on personal taste.
Had a good experience in this spot with my friend. The food arrived quickly and the customer service is just good. Prices are convenient.
I love this place. It is a must see for the nightlife in Long Beach. Fancy restaurant Cool looking bar that makes you feel like youre in the red draped room of Twin Peaks and finally a club like room that you can go to CHECK IT OUT. Its got something for everyone.
The view of the entire restaurant the moment you walk in is spectacular! The service was just ok; the waitress seemed like she was in a rush the entire time. Whatever wed ask for, shed say ok and start walking away before we could even finish or sentence. I had the steak and fries; nothing to write home about. Plus it was cold the moment it arrived to the table. My wife had the Chicken & Biscuits; thats worth ordering again. The chicken was tender and juicy and the mashed potatoes were perfectly done. It was a Thursday night, so they had the Shakedown in the basement lounge. The Shakedown is promoted as a DJ who plays a mix of funk, soul, and hip-hop. In the hour that we spent in the basement, the DJ played one James Brown song, one Prince Song, and all the rest hip-hop; which my wife and I arent necessarily fans of. The drinks are good which is why we stayed as long as we did. Had there been more of a balance of the funk and soul as was promoted, we would have stayed longer. In a nutshell, old bank building was cool, food was ok, drinks were good, music not as promoted, might go again, or maybe not.
Super cool to sit at the bar and watch the mixologists. Yummy Old Fashions
Love the Jazz music. The federal always pulls through with solid drinks and decent food. The killer service compliments the rocking atmosphere and vibe perfectly. Love my DTLB! Come through
Was helped 20m after being seated because of a mix up that meant we couldnt be acknowldged after being seated (lol?). During this time we noticed that us, and any others seated in the middle of the restaurant have to deal with long lines of drunk and beligerent individuals next to our table, often close enough to brush against your back or make comments on your meal, attempting to enter the back of the restaurant where I guess they make a line to enter their special club. Of course we couldnt order anything other than their late night menu that started at 11pm which we were now definately past. This menu consisted of a hamburger, a hotdog, mac n cheese and a few other basics... these items were VERY good, and they did come out in a reasonable time once ordered. As far as food goes this place deserves 5 stars.
Food was cold. Service was pleasant but slow.
Brunch was fantastic and the service was great! What a gorgeous building!
Yum! And a special thank you goes to Michael for looking after us so well! We will definitely be coming back! Thank you!
The place looks very nice, The atmosphere is pretty good as well. They have events downstairs, the overall vibe of the place was nice, the service was the only thing that was lacking majorly, bad customer service can ruin an entire experience which is what happened with us..
Loved the decor! Great food and drinks. I highly recommend this place.
Good (albeit limited) menu, amazing ambiance.
Professional and efficiently hosted private group corporate party on a weekday evening. Good food and beverage variety. Build your own slider buffet was a hit. The servers were helpful, adequate in number and attentive even with a large crowd. Ability to provide A/V with mics and monitors made for a successful event.
Nice lunch in locals place with outside seating. Had lunch special tomato bisque with half sandwich. Good size portion. Tomato bisque with small pieces of tomato regular than puree. Chicken on chicken philly grilled perfectly. A little to many jalapenos for me but easy to take off.would recommend.
Restaurant was empty when we got there on Sunday morning around 9 AM after making a reservation with Open Table. We were given worst table possible and were not allowed to move to a different table or booth, which were all available. No line, no people, and just attitude from both, hostess and a waiter. We ended up leaving. Never coming back to this place again.
This place never disappoints. They have fantastic food for reasonable prices, there is no waiting time even when they are busy.
This place is awesome—and run by the nicest people! My girlfriend and I had dinner there last Saturday night—great food, beautiful place, I’m taking pictures all over—and when I pulled out my wallet to settle up, I realized I left my credit card in the parking machine around the corner. After frantic searching for my card at the machine and the restaurants/shops nearby to see if somebody turned it in, nothing. Worse: my girlfriend was all dressed up and carrying a tiny purse so she didn’t have her credit card with her either...and I only had enough cash in my wallet to cover about half the cost of the meal. Bottom line, a very very sweet couple eating nearby (who simply asked us to pay the favor forward) paid for our meal. On top of that humbling kindness, Claire—the lady who runs the Federal Bar—gave us a forty-dollar gift card “for drinks” at the show we were seeing downstairs. Everyone at this place was so nice, it was heartbreaking. Highly recommended! Check this place out! Shows downstairs too (we saw the Satin Dollz)! Great place!
Came for the night life. Club was cool, in a basement. Only thing that sucked was the 3 flights to get down.
Go-to brunch spot. Also frequented the many, amazing events they held at The Federal Undergound. So much fun.
Great variety of foods to choose
Well, I was attacked here by 3-4 guys who I didn’t know, unprovoked.. worst of all, management has been anything but helpful in identifying the guys who did it, and in general has shown a lack of concern over safety/the crowds they allow in.
Found BC on a fluke but it was obviously meant to happen. Sat and talked with Roy, who was extremely knowledgeable about concoctions on their menu. The offerings were complexes without being overwhelming. The music was complimentary to conversations. Word of advice seek them out, they are the type of venue every one could enjoy.
Delicious brunch options! Staff are friendly and on point with service! Would definitely come again if I was closer!
Went to see a U.S.O pinup tour. Very good really funny.
A good restaurant both locals and visitors should try out. In this former historic financial/bank building, you are somewhat taken back in time to the early 1900s thanks to the atmosphere.
I visited on April 8, 2017 and my visit was interesting. The staff was friendly and helpful. The girl who served me was beautiful.
The comedy was great and a lot of fun! The seating was inadequate! Our bar stools wouldnt raise so we sat on table height stools at a bar height table! The food was ok. Not great but ok. The comedy makes up for those short comings!
Love this place
Love it here! The ambience is great and so are the people.... not to mention they have a meatloaf Benedict on their brunch menu that is fantastic!!!! Highly recommended the bottomless mimosa brunch. The Burlesque show is great as well.
Here for Breakfast Brunch ($22) bottomless mimosas on Fathers day. Made a reservation in advance and didnt wait for seating at all, although I think we wouldve been fine without a reservation. The deal is awesome- 22 for both an entrée and mimosas?! Service was a bit slow, and my poached eggs were completely cooked through.
Super awesome bar! This was one of the first places I went to my first day moving here and I had a great time. The inside is jaw dropping. A must visit if you are new or visiting long Beach!
Food is nothing special, fairly small menu. The drinks are good, but your really there for the ambiance. The building is so cool and historic - its an old bank building. Vast ceiling, crystal chandeliers, huge murals on the walls. A really unique spot to eat dinner.
Great atmosphere and drinks here.
The food is surprisingly good for brunch. Reasonably priced, and gorgeous ambiance. The bottomless champagne flows and the burger is really great. I have been for mixed afternoon drinks as well and they are expertly made. I would recommend and I will be back. Great place to take out of town guests. They do a great job of handling parties large and small. Be sure to reserve as it gets crowded especially at brunch.
Went on a Sunday at 2pm with RSVP for a large group, 18% gratuity was included in bill at the end. Location is good but mostly paid parking surrounding it. Ambiance is unique and very enjoyable with tall ceilings and chandeliers. Food is average and has a decent variety. Bottomless mimosa for $24/$34, depending on which side of food you order. Be warned, it seems like the bottomless mimosas was a little light on the champagne towards the end. The color look more orange juiced than the murky diluted OJ you get at first. 12 to 1 they said, more like 1 to 12 towards the end. 2 hours limit but thats plenty with the good service we got. They have a good selection of beers and cocktails. Large spacious restaurant but restrooms are not porportional...at least the mens were tiny. Saw a back bar but no one was there but the bartender, not crowded at all for such a nice spot. I got the red velvet chicken and waffle, syrup was spicy, that was the best surprise and part of the dish. You do not have to get the bottomless for everyone at same table, you can order a la carte.
My sisters in law and I rarely get out. We wanted to go somewhere that was new to all of us. They all needed to get out and enjoy some girl time since they are dealing with a dying parent. We needed a little time to enjoy some time away. The place was very nice. The food was only ok. Didnt like the attention we received by the waitress. While we were finished dinner we sat and caught up with each other about family and the good times in the past. I guess we over stayed our welcome since a waitress said, No hurry but we have another reservation coming. Clearly we were being asked to free up the booth. We all jumped out of the booth and left. I dont think we will be returning.
Very cool place to go on a date or to just hang out.The food is great and if you want to chill by the bar thats great too. After youre done with the main floor you can head downstairs to their underground club where they have an old speakeasy and bar as well. This place has so many cool things about it that you must stop by.
Awesome decor, feels like youre in the early 40s. Best chicken and waffles Ive ever had. Great drink menu too. One of my favorite places in Long Beach
A nice But not too fancy place to catch a bite after work. Good place for a date.
Came here for a birthday dinner in the middle of the week. They didnt have many patrons seated in the regular dining area (most of them were seated in the bar area), so we had the full attention of our server. The food was great and service was prompt. I would definitely visit again.
I love the vibe here. They make a great Manhattan martini.
Friday night we got there at 11p it was very empty and even at 1am it was still pretty dead... good music and if u didnt buy tix on eventbrite its 10 dollar entrance fee... you have been warned
Aesthetically pleasing, open seating area, great drinks and food. Highly recommend it for Sunday brunch
Pricey but sunday mimosas got me turnt
One of my favorites in Long Beach. They have a secret speakeasy underground as well, but you need the password. Just ask a British guy in a hat for the password.
Worst service imaginable. Basement tables were so small I had to eat off my lap. Table was full, waitress hands me my dinner plate and just walks away. Luckily there was an empty chair nearby so I didnt have to hold the plate for the whole show. We were almost done eating before they brought our drinks. Stunning ambiance and decor. High quality food. Decent drinks. Incredible show - The Pinup Girls. Must see.
This review is for the April 8, 2017 visit. The service was great. The highlight of the evening was being served by the pretty blonde woman.
It was good, but overheard that they can not be that nice. We where there for an expo.
Good drink, small location for their new year celebration. Bought tickets for an open bar but it was only for one part of the bar(speakeasy) but not the club portion. To get to either part of the bar or club, it was a long hallway and a flights of stairs and if you go outside you have to go through a quite restaurant with people trying to enjoy their dinner.
Our server Nadia was amazing! Great food, good times!
The Federal is a restaurant and night club with a Speakeasy located in the basement behind an old bank safe. The safe is there from when this building was a bank. Tonight a group of business colleagues and I enjoyed an evening of cocktails in the Speakeasy followed by dining in the nightclub room adjacent to the old safe. The atmosphere is a throwback to the 1930s but the food is very modern and tasty. Kudos to The Federal staff for delivering an excellent experience to our group!
Went on a Saturday night for the club. It was very dead inside, and for some reason they had about 4 DJs standing up on stage awkwardly with their hands in their pockets and playing on their phones. Overall it was just an awkward Saturday night at the federal, if youre looking for clubs to go to, there are better ones nearby. Drinks were a little expensive, and the dance floor is small.
The food and atmosphere was incredible. More craft beer options would have been nice but overall a great dinner spot!
Every time we have company in town, we take them to one place - The Federal for weekend brunch. Their $22 entree w/bottomless is unbeatable to start. Throw in their wonderful ambiance (live jazz/folksy music on weekends), plus the incredible architecture and grandeur of the location itself, and you have a truly special place. Highly recommended for brunch or date night. We will go back again and again!
Very nice down stairs entrance BUT its hot a hell. Small area good music nice crowdBartender tried to over charge .didnt happen lol
My favorite bar! Defiantly recommend to everyone!
Everything was just okay hence the 3 star
Went in a Saturday for lunch. Average food, very slow service. The place came recommended very highly but it was an underwhelming experience.
You must try the dirty chips and the federal burger of you go there. Best food on pine.
