I had the opportunity of being a Communications Intern here during my undergrad. I LOVED the atmosphere and the people that I worked with. The museums collection of work is a must see if youre wanting to learn more about culture and natural environment of the Great Plains.
Great displays of Great Plains art from a rotating group of artists. Varied literary collections from Great Plains historians. It all starts out front with a mini sculpture garden that draws you in from the usual hustle of a University campusWalking through the doors into the several floors of galleries and special exhibits is truly a step back in time.
Located in downtown, I was surprised to see that there were no reviews. So I figured I would pop in and see why. And to tell you, I dont know why. This is a small but interesting art collection and is well worth at least an hour of art appreciation. Some excellent American artists on display here including Frederic Remington (Ive seen his sculptures in many places, including Bismarck and Salt Lake City), John Falter, Albert Bierstadt and Edwin Deming. The display of stereoscopes was super cool and having a device there to actually look through was awesome.
I LOVE the Great Plains Art Museum! They always have amazing shows up, with their impressive library just up the stairs. Not to mention they’re right downtown, just across from the bus stop, and are only a quick jaunt to the Haymarket. Highly recommend!!
Love this place! Always clean and they always feature amazing artists! A must visit if in the lincoln area. Will give you a better appreciation for Nebraska, hands down.
We attended a special symposium last week Epic Neihardt. The staff was welcoming and helpful. The Art Museum is lovely and easy to navigate. The layout (bathroom in the basement level) worked well for this event. Take a tour on your lunch break if you work downtown or on campus. Some great visual art (Sculpture) greets you upon arrival the entrance is on the east side of Hewit Place. Spend some time here and get to know The Great Plains!
Small but really nice museum, and the staff are great!
Always a pleasure to come here on First Fridays
Beautiful place
