Nice collection of thought provoking art. Free parking. Not that many paintings, and quite a few were incredibly simple, bland, boring. I was more impressed by the building than the art, tbh.
Excellent Museum. Well curated and focused collection. Ken was so welcoming and just a wonderful docent who discussed the exhibits with us extensively. The museum building itself is really neat architecturally. We really enjoyed our time there. The other security guy was a little rude and overbearing...Couldnt give me even 30 seconds to look at a painting because they had just closed (Not exaggerating I promise). Please let him know that when people take the time in their travels to come to your museum from out of town and donate admission...I think its ok to behave friendly and give them an extra 60 seconds beyond closing time. In fact everything and everyone else was great so maybe that guy just needs a little softening up.
One Day well be able to go back and the see the wonderful Inspiration of others.
Beautiful museum. Small but great curation
Went to a First Friday event at the Sheldon Museum. The building is beautiful & dont forget to take a walk around the outside to see some of the sculptures. The staff were enthusiastic plus they had a nice little buffet of snacks & drinks. Also liked how they had activities for children. Its a quick trip through this museum but fun for a family as well as a solo visit if youre in downtown Lincoln or on campus. Also liked the different types of art work that were displayed. The permanent as well as the feature exhibit were definitely different.
Very nice museum. They do fantastic art shows.
As a Lincolnite, the Sheldon is a wonderful place to immerse yourself into art pieces from around the world. Whether its a stroll through the sculpture garden or an adventure through the gallery, you wont be disappointed!
The number of exhibits is varied and caters to just about every facet of art. I particularly enjoyed the photography exhibit and the metal sculptures.
Saw some cool art work. Got a great story from one of the security guards. It was very minimal though. Got to see an original Norman Rockwell. Worth the visit.
Parking during the week can be a hassle if you are planning to visit the Sheldon. The good thing is admission is FREE! The two story space with 3 distinct spaces plus gift shop is a nice way to spend an hour. The building itself is also quite lovely with soaring atrium, stone, and glass. The permanent collection is very good and the special exhibitions interesting.
It’s a nice art museum. A little small. But it’s free so
It is always quiet and lovely. You can always relax admiring paintings.)
The art here is just amazing with variety. If you like sculptures theyre there. If you like paintings theyre there, etc. I love art and I love this museum of art!
Beautiful museum, loved some paintings more than others, but makes you think about the world in new ways thru the eyes of the artists.
Absolutely beautiful here. Always thought provoking and they do such a good job at keeping it fresh here. The sculptures on the grounds are all treasures.
Just lovely! Wonderful exhibits and helpful staff. They offered me a place to hang up my coat and a place to store my bag. With free admission how could you not stop by?
Im not an art person but I enjoyed the collection.
Some cool stuff, thought there would be more art on display so that was a little disappointing.
Lee Young Jun PEN ARTPen Art(General Remarks)Infinity of lines and dots have symbolism. Such symbolism is ever changing according to the spirit’s depth. All works are kaleidoscopic; they are usually composed of indescribable expressions. Therefore, art’s depth also can be said to be unlimited. Is pen art’s depth also infinite? In other words, do the lines and dots flowing from the nib of a pen have an artistic qualification? In this respect, it is worth thinking deeply. Pen art begins from an essence of nature’s fundamental values. From the standpoint of value, or color, a harmony of black and white is essential in nature. As it is impossible to see any color in darkness, distinguishing color is an essential role of light. That is why the soul is drawn to light. Whiteness, or light is a spiritual reflection of the soul while blackness, or darkness is a reality of life on earth. As the color green is an essential color of vegetation, burnt charcoal is an earthy color that will stay near black. Blackness is heterogeneous and may be hostile to life. If blackness belongs to the essence of nature, it also may be said to represent the image of death. A combination of black and white constitutes degrees of lightness and darkness. When painting black on a white background, the soul is transported to the white background. Whiteness comes to life when contrasted with black line and black space. In this case, soul also may be expressed through the blackness. Soul may be transported to the black or a combination of white and black, which shed a mysterious merit to the soul or spirit. Pen arts starts and ends from an essence of nature’s fundamental contrasts. The primary essence is infinite and eternal while the artistic harmony of black and white can take one’s breath away. But, this is not possible until a metamorphosis has been realized over many years and spiritual transcendence has occurred. The transfer of spirit occurs when one’s life experiences are projected onto the white canvas in harmony with blackness. That is the true ‘pen art.’ Artist Lee Young Jun
Wonderful...took my 11yr old grandson (who loves to draw) and he actually enjoyed it a lot!!! Very friendly staff
Had really great art!!
Took some really beautiful photos here for a photo shoot and we didnt even have to see the art. This is a very underrated place to go. Its free and really unique. 10/10 would recommend.
This is a really nice gallery. The building, designed by Philip Johnson, is a work of art itself. Don’t forget to wander campus to see the various sculptures.
I love the museum. It is free to visit. They feature different exhibits so its always nice to see what they have new.
I very much enjoyed my visit at the art gallery. It was one of the highlights of my stay in Lincoln Nebraska. There was one issue but Ill get to that in a moment.First I want to say that they have a great and diverse selection of art. Its very interesting, but not wannabe interesting like you see in so many art galleries- you know old TVs showing static and bloody skulls. No, this art is actually interesting. Also, they pander just enough to SJWs but not enough that they ruin the whole museum. The architecture of the building itself is a mid century modern dream! The bad- I understand that the gallery is on a University Campus but the children that attend this university can be quite obnoxious. As part of what appeared to be an art class they had to draw pictures of the art in the museum. I guess it does make sense to lie on the floor when you are drawing but I didnt enjoy having to step over corpses. At least they were relatively quiet when they occupied the galleries- sadly I cant say the same for their behavior in the lobby which is quite cavernous and echo-ey.I went to check out the FDR exhibit on freedoms but a group of 50 students completely took over the gallery.
Great selection of artwork to be seen here!
Designed by notable architect Philip Johnson. Made of Italian travertine. Very simple and beautiful architecture. Artwork features well known artists.
Nice modern art gallery in Lincoln ! Not a huge collection. The garden itself is a work of art as well. It is worth a visit while youre in Lincoln. Its easy to walk there when youre downtown ! Free admission !The current exhibition on 68s is awesome !
Always love seeing what this gem of a museum building has the show of itslarge and growing collection of American art.
The guard is a bit grouchy, but as long as you dont actually touch anything hes ok. He is a bit biased against small children and more likely to tell at them for being close to the art, so dont take your kids unless they are well behaved.
Free and simply amazing. Great art pieces and history, highly recommend. Donations are welcome.
Great museum on UNLs city campus. It is a small location, but they change exhibits several times per year, and feature some beautiful and interesting artwork. Highly recommended!
Even though only 2 exhibit s were open, the docent had great knowledge to share. It is free, and cant wait to go back in September!
Amazing architecture but I wish that they changed out the exhibits more frequently.
The building and showcases are nice, and I dont really have anything to complain about. However, I was generally unimpressed by their choice of art pieces and the collections they choose to showcase.
Local and renowned artists displayed. Guides available if preferred. Elevators for those not able to walk the stairs.
Just wish it was bigger, they had some major art and it was wonderful and unexpected.
Beautiful curations. Dont touch the artwork!
Great engagement staff!
Excellent docent for my sons 4th grade field trip. Diverse displays that rotate. Free admission
Great Art and Sculpture Collection !!
Great place to reflect and is very family friendly.
Its free to visit this beautiful building with a variety of thematically diverse displays that change periodically.
Small but a really cool collection and is totally free! Theyve just renovated and added to the collection. Everything is beautifully maintained here and they have a nice sculpture garden outside with walking paths to peruse.
Kind of moderately okay especially if you are into Arts. But this is not interesting to me at all.
How can it claim to be a museum if its literally always closed? Every day, all day. Maybe knock the place down and put something real here.
Cool building, a little sparse on art, but it has some cool pieces.
Not a huge collection but some very nice pieces. The building itself is a work of art as well. It is worth a visit while youre on campus.
So many weird and cool exhibits.go.
Its free and the exhibits are great to look at. What more could you need?
This was an ok stop. Some areas not open.
Sheldon is a nerd name. But everything else was fine.
It was not very exciting for kids would be cool if you like art. Not saying anything against it but if you have a kid with you and they dont really like art I would not take them.
This place was very cool. The staff super helpful.
One of my favorite places to go in Lincoln, and its free !! Beautiful building, great exhibits, and a cool, serene setting.
Fun place to explore and a good place for first Friday.
Exhibits are well displayed and explained. Rooms are spacious and well lit. Exhibits change regularly so there is always something new to see.
Beautiful artistic place
Really cool exhibits. Really enjoyed the Havana exhibit.
A nice mix for art tastes. A beautiful building.
The rotating exhibits are nice, but there is too much modern art, which doesnt stick with many people.
Please come here and support this place. Good coffee, great people, strange location. Omaha will grow around it
Not worth the drive..not even worth a walk across campus. A real disappointment.
The wife and I enjoyed are sleds here we both learned alot
We should be proud to have this museum in Lincoln. Its well taken care of and has incredible exhibits. Admission is free.
To walk thru is like being on vacation
Love the cool art keep up the good work!
Eclectic collection, informant docent
Not that big but youll be surprise at the works inside! They have an Edward hopper piece Room in York when I went for a visit.
Great to have a wonderful attached museum of this class in Lincoln.
High Class, but Family Friendly. Sometimes great family/kid programs, and Jazz in June is great - Tuesday evenings.
Awesome :)
Great place to watch the drumline warm up before home football games.
Nebraska passport stop. Learned about the gold on the ceiling.
Great place for art. Bad place for loud music, at least inside the building.
Great American art, brings in intriguing visiting collections. They even have an Andy Warhol & a few Ansel Adams on display.
Beautiful architecture and some nice exhibits. A lot of the space is devoted to the atrium.
I loved going to the Sheldon Art Gallery in Lincoln. I had a fun time looking at art and sculptures.
Not much to look at, a few rooms. Great for quietness, if you want to just get away.
This is the best art museum in Lincoln!
Love the museum
Beautiful building - a classic of modern architecture.
Small but interesting.
I hope to make my own show here one day... Ciao Nebraska!
