My wife and I passed through the area during our cross-country drive, and seeing as Im active duty military I thought this would be a great place to stop by and take a look at some history. We were very disappointed: we arrived at 3:50 PM, and despite their own website stating that they re-opened from COVID-19 closures and are open daily until 5:00 PM, we were rudely told to go away. I was met with a cranky old man yelling WERE CLOSED! when I came to the front door. I asked if I could at least walk around the grounds and see some of the tanks up close, to which he replied NO! and promptly told me to go away (his words, not mine). Bewildered, I came back to the car and my wife went up tried talking to him. His response? Greeting her with What do you want?? before blurting out Go away, were closed! No explanation given. No Im sorry were closing early today today. Just incredibly rude beratement. If they were closing early, we would understand! They should have just said so instead of treating us like we were doing something wrong for showing up during their business hours (Google, their own website, and THE SIGN ON THE FRONT DOOR all say they close at 5 PM). Were sorry for showing an interest in your museum? Sheesh! We drove two hours to come see this, but instead we got treated like children. My advice to anyone interested in this place: go...much earlier? They arent holding to the hours posted on their own website, and if you show up when theyre closing youre going to get VERY rude treatment indeed!
If you like vehicles and you like the military, this is a must see. If you have older family members that served and would like to see what they possibly used as vehicles this is the place. They are a good will donation so please take some cash along to donate to keep this place open for everyone to enjoy.
Rather small place as a musum, but well worth visiting for anybody interested in military. Lots of older and some newer military vehicles of all kinds and purposes. From small Jeeps through trucks, armored personnel carriers and ending with tanks and heavy altilery pullers. Pictures can be taken anywhere inside or outside. There is one armored personell carrier (indoors) that is available to check and enter inside. No set entrance fee but donations are expected.
This is an excellent museum located in Lexington, Nebraska right off the interstate. Great for the entire family! There are so many restored vehicles from all parts of the armed forces. A few you can even go inside. Like the Huey helicopter and a tank. It was very educational. They have a small assortment of gifts and memorabilia available to purchase as well.
Beautiful place. Thanks everybody veterans for your service. God bless all you.
One of the greatest museum displays many vehicles thats been used in various wars.
Love this place never thought I ever would see a real tank and was able to stand by it and get in one
My whole family had a great time here. Make sure you have lots of time, because youll need it to see everything.
Really neat place. I opened up and looked in the tanks respectfully.
Saw a sign for this place as we were driving east along I-80 and figured we should stop by since we were in no hurry. Im glad that we stopped. My wife and I enjoyed our time here. The older gentleman at the front was very nice, but not too helpful. He wanted to help, just wasnt very knowledgeable about the facility or what they had on the premises. My wife, who isnt really into military history, had a good time checking everything out. We had lot of fun playing on the Bradley that they have in the building that is open for people to actually get inside the vehicle. They are working on a neat M.A.S.H. display as well. There are some really cool, and unique finds here. The weather was getting nasty with snow and ice, so we didnt check out the many vehicles that they have outside on display. I highly recommend visiting this place if you get the chance.
I have wanted to go here for years. For this years birthday I finally made the trip. It is cool to see so many great vehicles.
An amazing historical experience and a friendly, helpful volunteer staff!
This is a cool stop when traveling through the state. Staff was super helpful and let my Scout Troop use their convention space to eat lunch.
It was amazing!I really recommend this valuable museum to my friends.
A very cool collection of vehicles right off of I 80. Great spot to stop for a little while.
I was truly honored to take my son through here
This is a great museum! All they ask is a free will donation. I was able to climb into a Bradley Fighting Vehicle close to what I was in on Desert Storm.
Excellent place to spend a few hours. We had a great time in there. Great displays and very informative.
Went to this museum a number of years ago, definitely worth a visit. Not a fancy museum by any means, which I like. Lots of vehicles on display and some nice displays inside.
60 military vehicles including a Sherman Tank, M60 Tank, several M113 Armored Personnel Carriers, a M2 Bradley and a M3 Bradley you can crawl through that still runs. Keep in mind the M113 and M3 are still active in the US army and cost over $2,000,000 and over $3,000,000 to produce respectively. Cool place!
Soooooo cool. Dozens and dozens of Jeeps, Humvees, Tanks, Helicopters, Ambulances and so much more. Free admission.
This is an amazing collection and well worth the stop!!!
My son and I stumbled across this on the way through Nebraska. I’m SO glad we stopped! The exhibits are well-labeled. While they focus on vehicles, they have an extensive collection of ordnance, weapons, and other military hardware. We spent 2 hours there (much of that time inside the Bradley M3 you are allowed to enter) and had to leave when they closed for the day. Could have spent a half-day, easily. They accept donations in lieu of a set ticket price. They also have an extensive shop for buying military patches/flags/models. Worth the stop as a side-trip or a destination!
Awesome staff, and great atmosphere. Cool military vehicles and more.
Awesome spot to stop with the family on your way through. Free, via donations. Great collection of artifacts.
On my tour from LA to NYC, i saw this place from freeway and decided to visit this place. Very nice collection of war vehicles. Very friendly staff. I was totally amazed !
This is a charming place, worth the stop if youre taking I-80. There are soooo many things to look at! They could use a few more labels on things. What items did have labels told great stories, I would have loved to read more!
Good place to visit
Absolute must do in the Lexington area. So much to learn and see. Lucky this collection is here.
Astonishing selection of military vehicles and memorabilia! This is a must see, amazing place! Totally kid friendly, hands on experiences, just wow!
Dont let the outside fool you. This is a really great museum, filled with some one-of-a-kind pieces. Very interesting . . . and FREE! Did you know we had a snow tank in the war? Youll see one here. Did you know we had gas masks for dogs and horses? Youll see it here.
The permanent display is amazing. The convoy, and people with the convoy were a real treat! Both a tribute to an incredible group of people we are indebted to...we owe these men and women for our freedom.
Fantastic place to visit! This is an incredible museum with a lot of vehicles, weapons, uniforms, and more. The staff is friendly and really cares. This is a hidden gem!
Got there at 4 when they were scheduled to close at 5. They were closed. Is it an April fools prank?
It is nicely done and set up
We had a great time checking out all of the displays and vehicles. My kids had an especially fun time playing in the tank.
Great museum! Had so much fun here and plan on going again soon.
Awesome place. you need to stop and see the history. way cool
My son and I love coming here. So much to see and so much to learn. Theres even one helicopter you can climb in and pretend to fly, as well as one tank that you can do the same.
This place is so awesome! There is so much U.S. history. If you support our military and the freedoms they are, and have, fought for, you will love Heartland!
Very friendly and knowledgeable. Entrance is by donation, lots of cool stuff to see and learn about. Thanks volunteers!
This was a very good place to visit. It was donation only and had a lot of stuff to see. I will go again if able
Really awesome will come back
It is a really neat place to stop. So glad we stopped and looked.
Hubby loved the collection. Clean and well kept. Gift shop very reasonably priced.
Great location to learn about history and “touch” it at the same time.
Very interesting.lot more vehicles since last there several years ago.Enjoyed buying items for GRANDKIDS.
AFTER YEARS OF PASSING THIS PLACE SINCE THE LATE 90S. IM GLAD I PUT IT ON MY BUCKET LIST. GREAT PLACE TO VISIT.
This place is awesome! A great exhibit of how much our veterans sacrifice on our behalf. Highly recommend!
We didnt know this place existed, we just needed to stop for gas on a cross-country trip, and happened to see a building full of tanks on the side if the road! My young boys loved it nearly as much as I did! #UnexpectedOpportunityToEnterAnOldBradleyAssaultVehicle
Took the family on Memorial Day weekend. Kids got to see the sacrifices made for our country & enjoy the experience by jumping into some of the vehicles & tanks. Will always support the Heartland Museum.
Fantastic museum, its well worth the stop.
World class collection of military vehicles. Great family experience. Well worth your time to visit. Will definitely be back.
Very nice museum that is donation only. They have a lot of old military vehicles and other displays. It is worth the time checking it out. God bless our troops and thank you to those who have served.
Excellent historical experience, incredible number of old, and newer, military vehicles. Also, even more items including uniforms, munitions, and historical information.Definitely stop in if going through Lexington, but definitely worth making a special trip to see the museum.
So much to see. Cant wait to see the M.A.S.H. display when its done.
Really cool place you can actually go in a armored personnel tank like thing and a old helicopter from Vietnam. Older gentleman that runs the place is very friendly and will answer all your questions. Mock up of the old show MASH and a wide variety of tanks and such some dated back from WW1. Free to enter though highly recommend if you go he has a tip jar to drop a few bucks but there is no pressure if you dont and still want to see everything that is displayed inside and outside
Awesome collection of war rolling stock from WW1 to desert Storm etc.
An interesting museum where you can get right up into the vehicles
There is a lot to look at here. They are upgrading continually so my suggestion is that you stop in and look around
Very nice. Kids loved it!
Neat place to take a break
A good sized museum with a nice display, both indoor and outdoor. The outdoor exhibits are only somewhat labeled, so you dont know what everything is. But the history contained there is good if youre into military vehicles.
Not open on Wednesday as advertised. Took pictures from fence line went to their website was able to see all the things they had inside but didnt get to go in.
They have some truly unusual items, but you have to look around carefully! They need more space and better labeling on the displays. If you know what youre looking at, its a fantastic place, but if you dont know much about military weapons, vehicles, and gear, you wont fully understand or appreciate how great it really is!
Wide variety of military vehicles, and great information about all of them!
This museum is a must-see! There is so much to see that its tough to get it all in one visit. There are tons of military vehicles and displays, as well as a Huey and a Bradley that you can actually climb inside. The staff is always ready to help and answer questions, and the admission is donation-based. Do not miss this if youre visiting Lexington or passing by on I-80. Its definitely worth the stop!
Very cool place to visit! We took our Mosaic individuals, and we all had a great time. Very friendly, wonderful staff. We will be going back!
My whole family loved stopping here. Fun stuff to look at and very interesting. They are working on a MASH exhibit we want to see when done.
Nice displays and Vets like me around
Family really enjoyed it. Lots of things to look at.
Sadly they were not open when they were supposed to be so we never got to see the museum. Maybe next time
Nice museum with a lot of info and a nice assortment of vehicles.
This is a must-see stop for anyone traveling across Nebraska. What a terrific collection of military vehicles and related materials. Super-friendly people staffing the space. No fee but donations are much appreciated. Its amazing the variety of vehicles theyve been able to assemble for this museum.
Was done well. Very fascinating exhibits.
My friend, my cousin, and I took a trip out west and noticed some tanks out front so we stopped to look because my cousin is autistic and loves tanks. We get there and a grouchy old man is next to his truck and told us we have 30 minutes because he has somewhere to be. Thats fine and all I guess, the place says it closes at 5 but its free so its whatever. We make a small donation, walk around for a little under 15 minutes and my cousin sees a model tank of his favorite and buys it, but only after the guy is short with him because he doesnt know to operate the register so he had to go back and get change from an office. We go outside so we can look at the vehicles quickly and take a few pictures. As I was about to take a picture of my cousin with his favorite tank, the guy yells at us to come back up. Very cool and interesting place, but the staff is horrible. Hopefully others might get a better host.
Really cool place. Lots to look at. Brilliant staff.... always learn something new when I go there.
Stopped in with one of our grandkids. Was very interesting, Had a lot more than I knew about or remembered. Will try to stop in again in the future.
It is really a great place to see items that are about military history and the people there are really helpful.
Such an awesome place! Tons to look at, not just vehicles. There are even some in the back warehouse you can get in. There are binoculars you can use and dioramas. Outside are more vehicles to look at and its all by donation only. I asked the guy how they got so many vehicles and he said after wwii there werent any farm vehicles due to the war so farmers used military vehicles. Most were within 150 miles of the place.
Cool. Tons of stuff to look at and learn from.
Has a great many vehicles and other displays
Great collection of historic vehicles. M4 Shermans, personnel carriers, even a Huey! If you have an afternoon to kill, this is a great place to go.
Like a huge bag of candy to any history buff with a sweet tooth! Easy access and worth checking out if you get the chance.
Great experience. My 8yr old and I spent a couple hours looking around and cant wait to go back
They have an impressive collection. They have a M.A.S.H. exhibit with true pieces from the show.
Amazing, and FREE! Most of the museum is in a metal shed without ventilation, so dress appropriately. Amazing variety. They had a tank and a helicopter to climb in. We will go back for sure!
What a wonderful gem of a place! Great to see a place like this - thoroughly enjoyed it!
Amazing place to visit!
Army stuff, really old. But funny for kids
Nice people nice place
Excellent. Run by 4 vietnam vets, its got wonderful displays. You can actually go inside a bradley cfv!Its free!! Don’t forget to make a donation.
