Another beautiful fall weekend hike in Loudoun county. Great place to take your toddler and let yourself soak into the preserve which teaches you about not only all common trees that are native to Virginia, but also some exotic ones from China. There are plenty of crisscrossing trails that are all connected! We started behind the building that was in front of the parking lot, got lured to a small pond, decided to keep going beyond to a beautiful getaway at the Goose Creek and finally walked along an amazing trail stretch called Carter-Luck to wind our day. Being a preserve, the paths are well maintained, covered with grass that wont die with all the hikers trampling them and constantly being attempted at being encroached by low lying vegetation amidst the tall cedars, oaks and walnuts that make this a fall foliage wonderland. Now, if you have read this far, dont forget to stay back and soak in a perfect sunset from the parking lot!
Great place for nature walks. The trails are well maintained, not too muddy, and full of wildflowers (at least in September). We did a little fishing, caught a blue gill and a catfish. The pond is small and mostly in direct sun, but still nice. And we did the scavenger hunt, provided near the parking lot, which my 3-year-old loved. We will definitely be back here in the future.
Beautiful. Few other people - nice for hiking/nature walking social distance style. Interesting for kids. Trail map was not fully accurate.
I didnt know what to expect before arriving to this nature preserve other than that is has trails and it is dogfriendly. After entering the preserve, the one lane road led me to the visitors center and parking lot, both on the left. I walked passed the visitors center which looks like a house, and the begining of the Raspberry trail is to my right. I kept walking and saw a trailhead ahead of me and that was the spring house pond trail. I headed on this trail and quickly discover some section of the trail can be muddy, which I dislike. My hiking shoes got muddy, and it stresses me out because I dont like to get dirty. I hiked 2.42 miles and this is the path I took.... Springhouse to left and right on Goose Creek (nice view of Goose Creek at trailend), right on Arrowhead Ridge, right on Carter-Luck which becomes Blue Bell (same trail), left on Lookout Rock Loop (nice view of Goose Creek), left on Raspberry (note, if you turn right instead there is a very muddy puddle of water on the trail that you will need to figure out how to cross without getting wet and dirty), right on Springhouse Pond, continue right at the pond and loop back on the left to head back to the visitors center. The trails have a lot of muddy sections that can be slippery. The Lookout Rock has a rocky section on the trails. Be careful if you have balance issues. Although the trails are generally grassy, I recommend wearing good hiking shoes. There was a sign on ticks, maybe it is a bigger problem in the Summer.
So tranquil. Great for meditation walk.
Beautiful, well kept and easy to hike. Family fun!
Beautiful place with tons of trails. Very dog friendly- we must of seen at least 15 dogs in the 45 min we were there. Very kid friendly - saw several families hiking the trails. Get place to just explore and enjoy nature.
It was very peaceful, not many people around. Nice views. However, a short part of the trail was poorly marked and we ended up walking in the forest looking for the signs. The place is nice overall, if you enjoy the solitude.
Its pretty basic. Its a decent walk, not a hike.
Great open easy trails. Great Creek. Hardly any people!
A hidden gem in the heart of LoCo. Plenty of trails to hike, not nearly as crowded as other NoVA spots.
Nice hiking trails amongst the woods.
Beautiful, well kept trails and very clean.
Feels like in the thick forest in the mountain, but its actually just 5 minutes from town of leesburg
Beautiful park, dog friendly on leash .
Good trails for kids.
Nicely groomed walking trails. 20 miles of them. It’s a good distance off the main road so it is fairly quiet. I didn’t see any distance markers.
Amazing view, trails and much more.
Great outdoor area. Sadly privately owned by the nature conservancy, so hours and access is limited.
Lots of programs and activities plus some great hiking/jogging/dog walking. Check the hours, though - not open every day. You can download the Avenza trail maps app for this and other parks. You cant really get lost for long since the trails are all interconnected and its not that huge, but the app will keep you on track. Bring binoculars for birding and insect repellent. Free. Dog friendly.
Wonderful trails. Beautiful river. Catch and release
Great place for dogs and kids, easy wide trails. Good for trail running too.
I really loved Banshee Reeks, the trails were all pretty easy to walk and relatively short. Additionally it wasnt overly crowded (I went at 0800 and didnt see anyone there until almost 11am). I think the only difficulty we had was finding some trails, some trails seemed less kept than others and I didnt want to venture off the path so we turned around and went to find a different trail, but over all it was a good experience!
Took my dog and my mom to check this place out. Cant wait to see it in the spring!
Visitor center was great. The young lady was very helpful and provided us some good info. I thought a lot of trails were poorly marked though. We ended up doing a lot more mileage than anticipated. I think some of the trails on the map dont even exist. The area was beautiful though.
A gentle hike with access to Goose Creek and beautiful views of the surrounding country.
It has that Irish Banshee Reeking ethereal feel about the environs. Proximity to Oatlands and envisioned trail linking all the way to the Potomac River.
It was a nice pollinator festival. They had an owl and a hawk that you can look up close.
Enjoyable spot to get in exercise, picnic, and maybe get a bit spooked by the banshees howl!!
First visit. Nice hiking trails over different terrain. Looking forward to more exploring!
Great birding areas.
This 100 acre protected reserve abuts my grandchildrens residence. Be sure to use a good insect repellent as its full of deer ticks which may carry Lyme disease.
Great trails for a family with young kids
The trails we walked had little shade
This is a beautiful nature preserve with lots of trails, open and wooded areas and a creek on one boundary. Check online for days it is open. It is only open to the public on certain days.
While this is a beautiful area - I give it only three stars due to the tick issues. If you plan to visit this area with children and/or your dog - be vigilant. We were just walking in the grassy areas of the trails and we had two ticks within the first five minutes. For the 1 hour we were there - all four family members had ticks on them as well as the dog. I’m guessing since this is a preserve area they don’t spray at all. Be aware.
Its quiet its peaceful, Outdoors at its best
Decent local walking trail. Nothing special.
A little piece of paradise
Great place for a mini hike!
Check for ticks-i took my dog and they are not kidding...the area is overrun with ticks. After 30 minutes on the trails...my dog and I never went off the trails...my K9 had at least 14 ticks on her. Make sure to check your dogs paws between the toes and the undercoat. The trails were beautiful but I may not go back due to the ticks...seriously...be careful. Its a beautiful place to hike but you must be careful
Such a peaceful park! Daffodils greeted me on the drive in.
Beautiful spot to get lost and be found. Ron Circe is a delight. The visitor center is a lovely educational resource, and if you are looking for a place to volunteer and male a difference, talk to their staff. And, of course, trails and fishing!
This is a gorgeous nature preserve with miles and miles of beautiful walking trails. The trails are grass and soft. There are trails that go into the woods and others that explore fields. Wildlife such as native flowers, butterflies, ladybugs and other creatures are easily seen. The only thing you should do afterwards is check for ticks.
Enjoyed beautiful park.
Not very vistor friendly place, gates were not opened even at prescribed time on weekends. Although, hiking trail are good and refreshing
I led a small hiking group here on January 8, 2017 (the coldest day of the year), for a total hiking distance of 4 miles. The Preserve has free admission and is only open on the weekends. The Visitor Center is only open on the third Saturday of each month. We traversed nearly all the trails on the Eastern and Southern side of the preserve. Most trails were fairly marked except for the White Oak trail, as we could not tell where this trail continued. It is critical you do not lose your trail map, as there is a great chance to wander around in circles here. However, the biggest challenge were the thorns, as we kept walking into them throughout the hike. We got clear of the thorns closer to the Visitor Center.Overall, the preserve is a good place for a short winter hike, especially if you are looking to get out for a few hours.
This is one of my favorite places. Every hike has brought a new experience for me and my dogs. I only wish it was open every day.
Hidden treasure in NoVA. This park has great hiking trails and is a bit off the beaten path. They have rivers, ponds, meadows, lots of wildlife. Nice place for a hike with the kids and dogs.
Lookout Rock is a calm place to overlook Goose Creek and get your thoughts together.
A little unorganized, but a great place to go and relax at with your family
Love all the trails
Fantastic place for outdoor activities and learning about the northern Virginia outdoors.
Great place to take an easy hike or enjoy remote controlled aircraft
Decent trails and very close to our place.
Great Trails but lots of ticks

Clear trails, beautiful views!
