Employees are amazing and the owner gene is really good about stocking sleeves and does his best to keep the card game community happy
I will forever love this place no matter what part of the world Im sent to. Many hours spent browsing, purchasing, and getting lost in the nostalgia the store brings. I can confidently say it was the beat years I spent in my life, in Lawrence, with Game Nut by my side. I will be eternally grateful for its existence, and the people who worked it. Surely the staff has changed, but what I would give for the chance to return and walk in this store again.
Love this shop. I always can find some gem and the guys behind the counter really know what theyre doing. Any question, they can answer it. Favorite game shop ever.
Super cool place to sell and buy videogame that are more than just average. Old and new. They have cards, games, movies, everything you would need for entertainment. Would recommend to any hardcore gamer anyone trying to get into gaming.
Great game shop lots of mtg cards and friendly staff.
I went in doubtful that they would have all three things I was looking for but the gentleman that helped me found all three! Overall a wonderful experience. They made it super easy to find exactly what I was looking for and were really friendly. Best customer service I’ve had in awhile. Will definitely be coming back often.
Came in to purchase some D&D books Ive been looking at. The books I was interested in usually go for $30-$40 per book online. But when I got here they were wanting $50-$60 per book. A lot of items in this store are over priced usually and most can be purchased online for significantly cheaper. I want to support brick and mortar stores like Game Nut, but the hit to my wallet is making that difficult to do.
Prices are a bit steep and you absolutely have to buy online for mtg singles but good selection
Wont lie you can find cheaper iteams in other locations but seeing how they run in downtown Lawrence its understandable why they charge a little more. They have rare iteams from time to time so its worth just coming in if only to look around for a few mins. Staffs nice, the ppl who go are nice. Its a great place. But like I said before this isnt the cheapest place. Its more like a hang out for nerds who need to make friends
Great local little business with a decent selection! I do wish they had a little bit more in the switch games areas but that’s not really their fault if people aren’t selling to them in the first place. Other than that I always love coming here to scope out the selection :)
Very unique place people are nice and good selection of board games and old video games of all sorts.
Amazing selection including vintage and modern games, movies, anime, and manga
If youve never been in the store, its important to know that it covered two floors... Check upstairs!
An amazing place with a fantastic variety of hobby games, gaming supplies, comics, pre-owned video games, and the largest selection of hard-to-find movies (pre-owned, and some new) that I have ever seen! Gene, the owner, is a fantastic fellow, too, who supports his local business community.
Friendly staff, great selection of board games and used video games. They have open tables for playing games and I usually see people there enjoying a game. Theres a decent selection of open games to play for free. They also buy new and used board games if youre looking to get rid of any!
Their selection of used and retro games and accessories is top notch. Their board game selection upstairs is hot trash. They have an end cap full of expansions to one night werewolf with nary a single copy of the base game anywhere else. This is the story with many games they have. Also they need to enforce some kind of hygiene rule for their MTG competitions because it gets pretty ripe up there.
Picked up ddr and two dance pads. The pads didnt get along and these guys let me exchange one of the pads no questions asked. Helpful, cheerful, knowledgeable service, and I get to play doubles.
Amazing store run by awesome people. It’s like being a kid in a candy store - so much to see and buy. Board game selection is out of this world good and for me it’s the place to go for D&D stuff and Paints. We are pretty lucky to have such a great store near us!
Hi mitchel if you see this
There is a wide variety of really cool stuff, and the staff is so helpful and really fun to talk to. There is a ton of anime/manga related items and books and films as well as just about anything you can think of, with new stuff coming all the time. One of my favorite places to pop into Downtown.
Great service, impressive inventory of used movies and games. Our whole family loves their stores.
Having been buying and selling here for several years now. Fantastic experience. The owner Gene is fantastic and clearly cares about his customers. Don’t go expecting prices that beat Walmart or Amazon, but I’m happy to pay slightly more to keep a valuable brick and mortar community resource around.
I loved the collection of retro games they had and their displays always are creative. And boats and boats of board games upstairs.
Wonderful people. This has always been my favorite game store ever.
Lawrences gem, this is hands down the best game and comic book shop combo in the state.
Simply gorgeous. It has everything, and I mean everything. That includes a computer where you can look through and order specific cards; that includes walls and walls of games and card packs and etc. ; That includes playing spaces; that includes nice, helpful workers. It was amazing
Helpful and friendly staff. Lots of events and space for casual play. This nerd gives it a 10 out of ten!
They have a gigantic selection of board and table games upstairs, friendly staff and a cool atmosphere
Honestly one of the rudest card shops I have ever been 2 in my life with by far the worst parking had to walk almost a block just to get to the shop got inside was not treated nothing asked giy working about card prices on singles of mtg were almost everything was way over priced four d some cards to actually purchase was told had to use the computer to order which was taking over ten minutes just to load a single card then you have to use a tcg player account just to purchase the cards no thanks zero customer feed back laughable prices will never be back
Staff was helpful
Game Nut has a wide selection for video games, but make sure you cross check your pricing before spending a dime. Their expensive game wall, being said to be sold for “market price”, is actually inflated. The Iowa store was much worse than the Mass store about that (Iowa had a 50%-200% inflation on “market” pricing, and on games that for market are $100+, that’s a huge markup; Mass had some that were pretty bad, but more infrequent). Don’t lie to your customers about pricing, especially when nowadays everything can be easily checked by a customer.
Good service. Nice people. Good prices.
A very cool place. Staff friendly, and helpfull
Game Nut is a fantastic store that carries products for most of the hobbies I enjoy. Dowanstairs you will find a vast selection of used video games, movies, older consoles, and various video game swag.Upstairs they have all sorts of tabletop based hobbies from trading card, role playing, board, and miniatures games.Tables are set up for play and I have rarely been in one of their stores without seeing people playing something.
Fantastic local game store. Giant selection.
Good place. They have a lot of stuff. I mostly go in for D&D. Friendly and helpful staff.
I love Gamenut. However; if gamestop can post their trade in value online then at a minimum Gamenut could do verbal quotes in person. Its not like a verbal quote is legally binding.Just a minor gripe.
Great prices on great products
Game Nut is becoming more and more mainstream, but the gentrification hasnt ruined it, yet. Still a cool little spot for some nostalgia, and there are still some decent finds to be had.
Great selection of oddities and games and some toys. Fun to browse around and shop. Vert friendly and helpful when I am looking for games.
Beware of their shady practices and nasty behavior. Go anywhere else.
Good selection of games, good customer service, all together a nice place.
This is an amazing store. Both locations on Mass and Iowa have a huge selection of retro games at very good prices.Cheers!
GameNut is a great place to get new and old game. When I went I saw a playstation 1. I thought they where all gone! All in all its a great place, 10/10 would shop again.
This place is still awesome 13 years later!
It was nice and had friendly people running the place. Pretty sure I could find something here that I couldnt find at a local chainstore. While I didnt purchase anything it was worth stopping by. Best wishes.
Great deals on pokemon booster packs and lots of comics this place is great
Lots of neat stuff for gamers and media nerds. I play Pokemon there with my kid and theres d&d every Tuesday.
Best game store in town
Fantastic local video game shop. They are extremely helpful. The prices are competitive with national chains.
A good resource for retro games and hardware.
Make sure you go upstairs! Great selection of board games on the second floor.
The best place in town for games, both video and tabletop!
Always a pleasure, great selection, great prices, friendly staff. Just dont buy that mega man 3. Its being held for me.
Both stores are great! I prefer the one on Iowa but that is only because I am into board games. However the other store has the things my son is into like MTG. The owner is great, he is personable, helpful, and best of all he prices things competitively. We have found games in the store that he knows are being sold online ( eBay) for twice as much but he wants families to be able to afford his games! On the other hand there are a lot of games that are priced lower online( amazon) then most stores and he has his prices in the same ballpark! Gene makes it easy for gamers to love their hobbies :). Also there are demos and gaming groups meeting, I have not had a chance to try them out but I am glad it is an option. Every time we are in Lawrence we stop in just to look around, often walking out with something fun.
Love this place! Their staff is always amazing to talk to and so helpful!!
Great price for trade and friendly staff.
Very good customer service and helpful.
Better than Gamestop
Really helpful and very cute staff
The little Cashier girl was very mouthy and rude.
I go buy movies but a few years ago had a nightmare of a time with a return and an employee
The neckbeard employee who normally works the counter upstairs is usually sarcastic with me and I find it really annoying. Otherwise a great store with unique selection. I wish they would put the base/neo pokemon cards back out on display the way they used to have them. (The pokemon keyholder is a nice guy and I do not mean to direct this post at him) The card kiosk is an out dated desktop computer from the stone age and is really slow. Please replace it?
Have been using the 2 ps move controller for about 2 weeks now with no issues. The staff was friendly and quick to help.
Best place to buy board games in town.
Im not a big gamer, but when I do get a new game, typically anything form the Fable or Elder Scrolls franchises, I go here. Great prices, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Youll find tons of old games for your retro systems. Fun to go look even if your not into playing games.
The staff was friendly and courteous. The bottom part is all video games and discs. Upstairs is board games, PNP games and collectibles like action figures and statuettes. I didnt buy anything because I have been out of that stuff for a while now but they have tons of various board games sure to suit anyones fancy.
Interesting local store. My kiddo found a game, and the employees were helpful. I much prefer this store to any GameStop.
Fun Place. Lots of board games and card games. Nice people
In the upper echelon of game stores I have been to. Their selection of retro games is consistently great. They have lots of good deals, but dont expect to get a popular, rare retro game for a steal.
It has amazing selections of games movies and cds
Average prices average selection but an essential service
Easily one of my favorite stores in town; wide range of media from retro to new release chances are youll find something you want everytime you go. If not, they coordinate with their other location to help you get what youre after
Very cool store. Informative and friendly staff. Huge Selection of Nerdy stuff, games and so forth.
The owner of Game Nut, Gene, and all of the staff have always been very helpful in whatever I have needed. Whether it is board games, comics, or a DVD they have always been great and in my opinion go the extra mile.
High over priced games. Cool littlehole in the wall to check out though
This is a great place to buy and sell your used video games, but dont forget to look at their impressive selection of board games and comics!
Very helpful staff.
Great selection of Pokemon cards.
Been there twice first time the controller to my Xbox that I brought was broken, recently brought an older system and the component piece that came with was broken. I guess they never check what the sell before they actually give it to someone
I always enjoy talking to the staff here. Theyre enthusiastic and knowledgeable on the subject and provide a wide range of resources is quite impressive for a local place. They have Comics, Collectibles, games, movies, music and figurines.
An OK used game store. Best for trying out games in the upstairs game room loft. Service not always best (mixed experiences) & filled with mostly junk games. Be careful what condition stuff is in because they dont like returns or equal amount store credit. Prices not always marked so they call the owner to ask or see what the current (high) online price is.
Good pricing. Lots of vintage games. I didnt wanna leave.
Not affiliated with their counterpart store! Disappointed that they could not transfer credit without me having to go & exchange at the other store! Ripped off by both, hardly a selection, WILL NEVER BUY FROM OR GO TO EITHER AGAIN!!!!!
Great selections of movies & games!!
I will not recommend this shop. Got some store credit easier in the week. Waited 30 minutes to use it on some comics while they did a transfer of the credit from Iowa store to Mass store. I was then told after that wait that I needed to go downstairs to get the credit set up. When I got downstairs I was confronted by a store clerk who treated me like I was shoplifting. He said, Do you know you cant use your credit up there. I said, no I did not know that, how am I supposed to know. Honestly, why make me wait if I cant use my credit. What is the point of store credit if you cant use it on store items. Iowa group was great but Mass street ruined my view of the store. Guess they dont want people to use store credit, feels like a scam.
The prices and customer service are good. The prices for board games and video games are okay. However, some of the items are marked up higher than the sticker. The return policy isnt great. You can only return items for store credit, but that store credit can only be used on used items (i.e. no board games, card games, or comics). Basically, you can only return broken items to get in exchange more items that are possibly broken as well. Also their selection isnt very good, especially for newer consoles.
Had an incredibly rude and arrogant girl assist me at the Mass St. location. She must be new because Ive never seen her there before (a short brunette who looked like she was 14). Anyway, she made me feel like a nuisance rather than a loyal customer by being easily annoyed with the simplest questions while jabbering almost endlessly with the other customers and her co-workers.After she rang me up, she muttered an insincere thank you much while turning her back to me, while just minutes before, she was very cordial to some other departing customers. I will never give Game Nut my money as long as the stores hire people like this immature, incredibly unpleasant young lady.
Great selection of pokemon cards!
Good prices and selection make this my go-to store for buying games and movies.
I have came here for years and always enjoyed the merchandising, service, selection, and pricing as it is where it should be (higher than internet but you have the appeal of taking home the game that day, conversing with the staff, looking around etc. etc.). Yes they may buy something at $5 and resell for $40 but the business is there to turn a profit, not provide cheap pricing to gamers. Having said that, I have had an issue before on returns which can be standard for companies selling vintage products. I had argued over this issue and simply left to then get a call with an apology for the misunderstanding which is VERY professional for any person or company to do. Service had always been GREAT until the one issue I had which now only turned into something positive as they did right by their customer which shows great integrity. Staff is friendly, may get chippy at times but understand they get the same questions/complaints 100 times a day and sometimes its hard to fake their enthusiasm which anyone can relate too. Great selection, upstairs gaming loft, ability to special order, nicely merchandised sales floor, engaged staff etc. etc. All in all, after the 1 bad occurrence I had, it is still one of the best shops in downtown Lawrence.
Great atmosphere and stock. Upstairs has all kinds of awesome tabletop games.
Found just what I was looking for plus more, awesome experience!
Best video game store Ive ever been to period! They have every game and game system ever made. The upstairs is also an arcade you can play any game or system on for a small fee.
Helpful staff and great selection
Its got a good selection of retro games, and I think the prices are fair for what youre getting.
I Always have a great experience!!!
Awesome store with an awesome selection, staffed by hipsters. If you need a vintage game, youre in the right place. If youre looking for trading cards, just head upstairs.
