Its so pretty they really did a good job keeping up with it, if you want to see a piece of history its a nice place to go. Its free to walk around on your own but Im not sure if tours cost money or not

Beautiful mansion and grounds nestled in PG County, Maryland. There’s also an arts center on the grounds that hosts pottery classes, which is awesome. Would definitely recommend this as a neat to stop by in the area (it’s also free!)!

The Montpelier Mansion is a Georgian style mansion in Laurel, Maryland built in the 1780s. It was the home of Thomas and Anne Snowden. Today, its a house museum and event space. Its also a good spot to go for a walk. The property is spacious with gardens, walking paths, and picnic tables. Theres also an arts center near the parking lot as well. One thing to note is that this house was part of a plantation that enslaved people. Its important to know the context as we visit places. May that be a reminder that the system started disadvantaging African-Americans and that we must DEMAND systemic change today.

Self guided tour so visitors get out of it what you put into it. Take time to really look, wander, and read the booklet. Very educational and interesting. Well kept. Excellent view into our history.

Its a nice venue. The facilities themselves arent particularly fancy, but the mansion has a historical background. The grounds around the mansion are fairly well kept, although the garden needed weeding and trimming, and the benches had moss (making sitting down on them in dress clothing an unpleasant thought). I was only a guest for a small graduation party, but I expect its a good deal and decent venue for the price.

This is a self guided tour provided with a pamphlet of interesting facts about the mansion. It is not well lit to preserve the home and items inside. We went during June and their want much cool air or circulation in the two story mansion. It gives a realistic feel though to the conditions of the times. The mannequins were a bit frightening and we were caught off guard in the quietness of the property, specially after seeing Get Out. Very educational journey and kind, knowledgeable staff.

Didnt go inside the building (other than the art one for a bathroom) as we were here in the morning before opening. Spent morning walking around. Not much in terms of gardens but the ground was still pretty for a short morning walk.

People were friendly, but would have liked a tour by a person. Self guided tour was fine. Also would like more personal and detailed information about the owners and slaves.

This place is so beautiful. My family and I enjoyed walking around the grounds and touring the Mansion at our own pace. There is even a room where kids (and adults :) can play with time period toys and clothes. **My family of 4 got in for free (3/31/18) because they have an exhibit up so make sure you check to see if they are running any deals**

Beautiful home and self-guided tour is nice. It was around Halloween when we went and they had kitschy decorations around the house if thats something you enjoy. I imagine they do it at other holidays, too. It was not distracting, though!

The mansion, garden and grounds are gorgeous. I would visit here much more often if it were closer. One of the docents (Joe) made the tour great. He answered a million questions with enthusiasm. You could really tell that history is his thing, which is the best kind of person to learn from. It would be nice if the museum would include more history on the Snowden familys ownership of slaves, it was kinda like it was swept under the rug. Had Joe not mentioned it, the museum itself gives very little indication that slavery occurred there. The details of the home are something to behold though. We went for the tea and herb festival, which was very pleasant. We bought a fair share of things ranging from honey to spices.

Interesting place. The art barn. Is like a mini Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Va. The mansion and the history is fascinating. Ive lived in the area for basically 30 years and I finally made it, so glad I did.

Located in Laurel, MD. It was the home of the Snowden Family. House is in need of major roof repairs so ir takes away from what was a major historical site. Nonetheless the grounds are beautiful and people rent it for weddings and other outdoor venues

This was a very cool piece of our countries history. I didnt really like how the 15 minute video and a 5 minute walk to the mansion are part of your hour long tour. Our tour guide wasnt really into the idea very many questions. A lot of irrelevant information not pertaining to the house itself. Although interesting, I would have rather filled the time with an opprtunity for questions. It was a beautiful part of history that I would recommend anyone you take the time to see if they can. Im glad there are orginizations who help keep these places alive.

I love this place. The grounds transform you to a place of tranquilty that you would expect to find in this area. There are majestic trees which provide shade in the summer. The herb garden is small but tranquil. You will enjoy sitting amounts the smells. At any day they have photoshoots on the grounds for weddings, Qiceneras (?) Or family photos. They have a summer playground for kids, home school events and a fabulous festival. I didnt even talk about the teas or house yet but its a must see in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Maryland.
