The architecture is stunning, and the collection improves on that! Our docent was knowledgeable and kept us moving through the 1904 mansion with an ongoing litany about the history of the building built as a showpiece in the 1904 Worlds Fair in St. Louis MO, how it ended up as a residence in Lafayette and then a museum with a premier art collection, along with interesting stories about some of the more uncommon pieces. Stopped briefly to let the old but still working music boxes play. Very allowing of photography and videos. This place (and collection) is a gem in Lafayettes crown!

This place is great. Beautiful collection of paintings, revival period furniture, clay structures, stained glass art and a lot more. The museum is specifically for Indiana Art. The owners are super nice. There is a sculpture garden which is free for everyone.

Went to walk the trails behind the museum and followed that up with a walk through the rear garden gallery. Garden gallery was nice and had a variety of pieces. However the trails lacked a lot to be desired. They could use some tending too, very run down and overgrown.

My wife and I went there 3 years ago and then again last week. They switch up things so our two experiences there were different and very informative. The hosts that give the tours are very friendly knowledgeable people. There is so much to see there that it takes a couple of times to soak it all in. We enjoyed learning about the history of the house and all of the items in it. They also have a walk through garden area with wonderful pieces of art/sculpture to enjoy.

I went especially to see the Karl and Becky Martz installation. Becky and Karl and I were special friends and I so enjoyed seeing their work. I met Ellie at the museum and shared some Martz history in the time I knew them with her. They were a meant to be together kind of couple.

This is one of the most unique and beautiful collections of art created by artists from a specific part of the country that I have ever seen. The museum was originally built in 1904 as the Connecticut Pavilion at the Worlds Fair in St. Louis, Missouri. It was purchased and moved and rebuilt in Lafayette, Indiana then was a private residence for many years and is now a museum. The art displays are the works of Indiana artists from the mid 1800s until the present day. It includes many oil paintings by very famous artists as well as ceramic and other sculptures. There are two incredible and functioning large music boxes. All of the beautiful furniture is American. It is an historical treasure chest.

We visited the Haan mansion and museum today while I was visiting my sister in Lafayette. We found it online when looking for local attractions and werent sure what to expect. It was easy to find and park, and we were greeted at the door by Mr. Haan himself (the museum employs several employees but he works there as well giving tours). He led us and two other visitors around the museum, sharing the beautiful collection of Indiana artwork and American furniture (particularly beautiful pieces in the Renaissance Revival style) with personal anecdotes and plenty of points of interest. The special exhibition was of work by Ohio/Indiana artist Mr. Willis Bing Davis, and it was interesting and well-curated, punctuated by displays of poetry that inspired the artist. We are looking forward to visiting this beautiful house again in the spring to see the brand new sculpture garden. Both the beautiful collection and the architecture of the home itself make this a worthwhile stop for an afternoon in Lafayette!!!
