This is a great place to stop if you are a backpack style traveler like me. Its an easy walk from Duval St. Entry is free. The environment is serene and beautiful, a nice place to sit and relax and get away from everything.
I loved this place. I could spend all day just walking around the garden. Free to get in, they run on donations though. Would be the perfect location for a wedding or fancy dinner party. So magical. The views to the water are great as well and there are so many little hidden paths and sitting locations.
Beautiful and interesting. This is one of my favorite places in Key West. It very well kept with beautiful flowers year round. The layout allows for leisurely walks without bumping into people all the time. The plants are clearly labeled for those who are botanical buffs. One sweet spot is the butterfly garden. It is open air but there always seems to be a variety of butterflies. This is great garden for kids as well.
What a cool place. Never new there were old Northern civil war forts in Key West. One of the local garden club members gave us a tour and explained some of its history. He also pointed out some of the native plants and trees there. There is a donation taken at the door if you would like to visit. A neat piece of history.
A lovely mix of history and gardens is worth the time to stroll through and enjoy this oceanside experience.
Beautiful!!!! The garden club took something that was a ruin and turned into something amazing. Also its one one word that you dont hear in Key West alot, FREE! You can definitely see the love that the members have put into the gardens. The butterfly garden was super cool. This is definitely worth stopping by for. They also have a very nice restroom if needed.
Free! We also visited the botanical garden for 10 bucks per person and this place was much prettier. The ocean and beach as a backdrop to an old brick fort make this a beautiful garden. the flowers really pop against the brick.
A historic site maintained and beautified by a local garden society. Beautifully maintained (not manicured) gardens, fortress ruin features, little gazebos, views, fountains, and sitting areas. Pure heaven in the heat of the day. Clean washrooms, lovely staff. I can imagine a stupendous cocktail reception here. Free, but donations welcome. Please donate to show respect and help keep this a gem that keeps giving to us - visitors and residents alike!
A nice way to spend a hot afternoon in the Keyes! This is one of two twin Forts on Key West. The other houses the famous, Robert the Doll and actually a museum that highlights much of the areas history and influence. This lesser known twin is run by the Key West Garden Club and is less complete than its sister, consisting mostly of crumbling brink walls and only two intact rooms. However, it is quite interesting and contains some lovely garden and sitting areas. The cost is by donation and it is well - worth a stop!
Stopped here during a bicycle tour of Key West and had a great time exploring the botanical garden and the butterfly garden. A must see for nature lovers!
Wide variety of interesting plants are there.
Gardens were beautiful. Cute little walk that’s great for couples or families. It’s free and only took us about 20 minutes to see everything.
Peaceful walk. And best of all free - donations
This was a hidden gem on our trip to Key West. I found it by scouring Pinterest to see what we should do.This old fort and gardens are absolutely beautiful and, it’s free! We spent about 30-45 mi it’s here and it’s right off the beach. It was a welcome destination between all the other fast-paced items we did in Key West!
A beautiful display of amazing Key West gardening. Unfortunately their amazing central tree was destroyed in the last hurricane but they are already well into recreating another amazing place to see.The amount of wild butterflies was astounding! The view of the gulf from the Tower is relaxing and gorgeous. Take the time to visit West Martello Tower if you are a gardening enthusiast. You wont be let down.
Absolutely loved the Fort! Dont miss this attraction while visiting Key West Florida!
This is such a beautiful Oasis. There are so many interesting plants and flowers, we especially loved the butterfly garden and cactus varieties. A must see when in Key West.
Great place to walk on a hot day. Very beautiful!!!
This was a lovely little place to visit. The old architecture was so interesting and the Key West Garden Club did and amazing job with its up keep. They have a beautiful variety of flowers and plants. Entry is by donations only, but its definitely worth spending a few dollars on. Restrooms were clean.
Rebuilding / remodeling the star fort a little bit. Bella Construction
My fiance and I were walking out to the White St. Pier and decided to stop in the gardens. As soon as we got inside, we knew this was the place we would get married. So, we booked it for November! It is very affordable and its been a pleasure working with the staff.
Beautiful location a must visit. However the big ficus tree was destroyed after hurricane Irma.
A hidden gem.. well worth the visit. I got there not long before they closed. Wish I had more time.
Love this place. Beautiful gardens mixed with interesting ruins of the old west martello tower. Parking is easy. Adjacent to other fun spots to see and spend time at. Sad to see that the giant banyan tree over the arch did not survive the hurricane a couple years ago.
Beautiful garden in Key West! Definitely worthwhile!
Beautiful garden in a Civil War fort that was never completed. We got married here in 2017 just before hurricane Irma knocked over the large tree that was a focal point of the garden. Still an awesome, quiet place to visit.
This was a cute building and a nice garden to walk around
This place is beautiful. Highly recommend checking it out.
Amazing place with interesting history. The key west garden club has transformed this fort into an amazing little slice of paradise. There is a butterfly area in which we saw tons of Monarch butterflies, theres a couple different cacti, a fountain, and many flowering shrubs. There is no cost to explore the fort but they do like donations. The donations go towards keeping the fort in good shape. We recommend this place! Its beautiful!
A must see place! Its a garden the is built around an old fort that was never finished. Has history and very cool place to take a break and cool off a bit and get some great photos. The cost is donations so its whatever you can afford. You can just about get lost in this place, it a little maze with little hidden areas. The staff was very helpful and kind. Check this s place out and give me a thumbs up if you agree this is a must see.
Historic martello tower in Key West, Florida, United States. It was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. West Martello Tower was completed, during the American Civil War. It saw no battle action though was used as a target.
Beautiful gardens. The hurricane did some damage, but this is still a must visit.
You must go and visit the Butterfly garden!!! There are beautiful small and quaint places in key west away from the hustle bustle drunken duval street. This tower houses one of the most gorgeous gardens inside a once used fortification. The lady who runs this place is very sweet and you can host events here. Now back to the butterfly garden. Its nestled in the back past the water foundation and is a circular garden with various plants that attract monarchs. Sit on the benches and enjoy the breeze from the water and watch these monarchs fly around you nonstop.
We enjoyed a short walk amongst the verdant landscape of tropical plants in the rain. The grandkids were able run around and enjoy the fort.
Beautiful spot to find some peace and quiet from busy Duval Street!
Beautiful maintained garden
Cool place to visit, free
Lovely gardens and care by the Garden Club members. Thk u.
Very neat place with lots of history.
Elegant yet simplistic native beauty! Personally love the butterfly garden! Don’t forget it’s free! Pack a lunch & bring the family!
Awesome place we just so happened to stumble upon please make a donation to keep it up and going .
Wonderful historic fort on the beach here in Key West. Now a beautiful spot run by a non profit Key West Garden Club.
A nice garden ensconced in an old fort. Who knew the Union controlled Key West! Totally free.
Gardens were beautiful. Lady at desk was very helpful and provided a ton of good information.
The West Palm Garder Club does a great job keeping the gardens looking great with a wide variety of plants and trees... all on a donation and volunteer basis. Go, spend an hour wondering the grounds and be sure to drop some cash in the box on the way out.

You can enjoy your wedding surrounded with butterflies, birds, plants and flowers at the West Martello Towers. Located on Higgs Beach in Key West, Florida
This fort is really cool! Its now a garden, and it even has a butterfly garden inside. I guess it was partially taken apart to reinforce fort zachery many years ago, it sat vacant for a long time, was going to be torn down, but the key west garden club saved it! Please donate money if you can, as they run off of donations. This is a must see that I would recommend to visitors and locals alike.
Rich in history and beautiful views. Although it is free to enter, donations are appreciated. Parking is also free down by the water.
Wonderful place to see some beautiful botanicals, learn a little history and take a leisurely stroll. Free to enter, donations are welcome. Stay as long as you like. Good for family or for meditation. Also right near a public beach area with other activities to enjoy
Lovely place to browse and take photos. History meets beat, a must see.
Beautiful gardens on the beach. A real gem in Key West, free with donation and a great place to go for a walk. Cute little butterfly gardens and the park as a whole blends perfectly with the historic fort.
Beautiful! Well kept and amazing what they can do after a hurricane!
Beautiful and well maintained gardens. A must see in Key West. Friendly and knowledgeable employee thay greeted us. Fantastic place for taking punctures!
Breathtaking variety of flowers, trees, and plants. Highly recommend!
Very cool place to explore it is relaxing, peaceful, and tranquil.
I bring all out of town guests here and they love it. The fact that it is completely free in Key West is a bonus. Its right next door to the gorgeous African cemetery, the AIDS memorial, and a nice meal at Salute on the beach.
I think it is a nice spot for the view but the garden could be better
Beautiful ️
The gardens are very beautiful and its free to get in. The volunteer staff is so friendly and informative not only about the gardens but also about other places to visit around the island. Definitely recommend a visit here!
