This park is HUGE! It spans both sides of Patterson. There are many hiking trails in the woods as well as paved areas to walk. Theres a creek that runs throughout. There are several different covered shelters with picnic tables and also nice-for-a-park bathrooms in more than one location. The shelters have to be reserved through the park district if you want to have them for a gathering. Theres also a nice big playground with swings and equipment for all ages.
Nice place for a hike. One direction is about 1.4 miles. Meant for out and back. Certainly true to its name of hills and dales. Has some good long ups and downs. Went on a nice warm November Saturday afternoon. Pretty busy. Very pretty, but I image its beautiful in the Spring/Summer. My only criticism is I didnt think the trail was marked all that well. Not like you would get absolutely lost, but definitely could use more trail markers. Would recommend!
I went looking for Pawpaw fruit, since I saw some on the ground last year and thought Id try coming earlier this year and maybe grab some off a tree. Theres probably a park rule against that, but when this is one of the only ways to get Pawpaw fruit in the first place, whos going to begrudge me for wanting a taste test? Anyway, aside from the distinct lack of fruiting Pawpaw trees (smaller trees everywhere though) very nice park.
Beautiful park! Love the trails and I got a great work out because there are good set of hills in a relatively short circle.Plenty of places to sit. Tons of natural beauty. The trails are fully under a canopy of shade. A pond that attaches two creeks. I see turtles everytime Im there. And Ive heard bull frogs more than once.
The is the best park around. John Patterson, Frankensteins castle....Rich peoples houses to look at..
Beautiful park with easy trails! Bathrooms and parking on site. Definitely recommend a visit here.
This is a beautiful wooded park tucked up between Oakwood and Kettering. The trails are nice and wide. Youre walking somewhere between the river and the highest point in Dayton, so it can be challenging despite the relatively short trails. You also get glimpses of the Oakwood mansions and the golf course as you walk.
I love this park. It is great for short peaceful, hiking, dog walking, rigorous biking, and meditating. The surrounding neighborhood is also quaint and quiet.
Very nice. Needs cleaned a bit though. Also there is almost no parking
Very beautiful scenery and as a fall goer I can say the October leaves were amazing
Very nice. Clean, and great people. Kept up.
Its a really nice place to walk/hike. Well taken care of, but there is a lot of people traffic.
Hills & Dales MettoPark is my neighborhood park. It was pretty crowded today. I bailed out and made it short walk. I was fortunate enough to get a parking spot at Sugarcreek Reserve this morning before it got too crowded. Good to see people are getting out but I dont like seeing them on the trail.
It was really lovely, we just got married there today
Wow I never knew this place existed. Cool stone chimneys and a lookout castle turkey...unfortunately you cannot climb to the top of it to look at what would be a great view of the valley.
Gorgeous scenery, benches & swings to rest yourself on, shelter houses for picnics, get-away trails...just flat fun!
Very nice metropark. Great for hiking and seeing unique sights.
Dayton has great parks but this isnt one of them. Broken glass scattered throughout the entire trail system. Dont bring your dogs.
Pretty trails, but short. Traffic is loud and close. Good bathrooms
The park is really nice but they need signs up letting people know where the trails go other than that the park is beautiful
Clean park with cool monuments and sculptures along the trail! Very dog friendly, too!
All the updates are awesome! Great date stroll. Some decent hills farther in the trails. Golf course along the trails.
#TeamClark was at it again first thing this morning.... We decided to tackle the Adirondack Trail at Hills & Dales MetroPark in Kettering!️This was officially the 22nd park, reserve, or preserve that weve hiked in the last in 22 weeks! This trail was a serious workout... Its approximately 2.6 miles to the end of the first leg and back... so be prepared to sweat a little. The elevation changes are pretty extreme on this trail... which is exactly what we like!We saw people hiking, running, bird watching and taking photos of wildlife! Our familys goal is to hike a different park, reserve, or preserve every weekend until the weather decides to shut down operations!#TeamClark #familyfirst #Whatagreathike #AdirondackTrail #hillsanddalesmetropark #daytonstrong
Really good trail and few points on the way makes it interesting.
Nice place to walk or to just sit and admire the view,
Really cool place to get an hour of walking in . It’s right next to a golf course so you have to stay on the trails to avoid that.
I always enjoy bringing our daughters to play. We also love hiking the trails as a family!
Beautiful park. Little water fall. Pond. Love it.
There are a lot of nice shelter areas throughout hills & dales metropark. All of them are well maintained and work great for large gatherings.
I go there alot, peaceful
Great to have hiking close to the city when you cant make it to the other parks. Theyve been improving and developing the trails over the years. Some side trails arent on the map yet, like the trail at Paw Paw Camp that follows Deep Hollow Rd, the Nature Play area, and south of the Adirondack trail near the water tower. So explore the side trails too if ya like where youll get a better workout, more mileage, and more nature.
Very nice trials for an urban park. Has plenty of outside dining areas.
Absolutely beautiful here. Nice trails and pond.
This is a nice place to hike among large trees next to a golf course. The Dogwood pond is a nice plus. It is especially pretty in the fall. The paths are well maintained. The parking is somewhat limited. The lot near the Paw Paw shelter house is fairly large and the shelter house is very nice.
I booked the Dogwood Pavilion for a 10 person intimate wedding ceremony. Reservation was created March 8 for the September 20th event. I called today to double check my reservation on a whim and found out that my event was cancelled back on May 31. I supposedly received an email notification (which possibly went to my junk mail) and my fiancé’s credit card refunded our money. The park is not allowing reservations for weddings even of 10 people or less due to Covid. I am understanding that Covid has presented challenges for many and is unlike anything we have ever experienced. However, I would have thought a wedding reservation would deserve a personal phone call or voicemail over an email. Very unprofessional. The lady in the phone was trying to be helpful and stated that all the shelters will be open on a first come first serve basis which makes zero sense in practicing social distancing as compared to a restricted group who made a reservation. Who would want to risk that for a wedding? I’m glad I called before sending our invitations to print. I now have less than 3 months to re-plan what I thought was a social distancing compliant event. Very disappointed.
Love hiking the trails here.
Beautiful little park bordering Community Golf Course. Sat in shelter house and ate lunch.
Probably the most beautiful park in the Dayton area. I love coming here for walks and picnics. Plenty of options for both. I have had reunions here, picnics, and other social gatherings. Definitely check it out.
Great spot to hike and walk around! the dog pond is a pretty nice spot to sit and enjoy the water. Also great park to have a picnic at if you can avoid the sun!! We ended up going behind the statue to keep cool but beware of the stink bugs doing the same thing!
Never been there before had a great day with my grandbabies
Over all clean but you do see some broken bottles on the trails.
This location is great for gatherings. Its nice and shady. The shelter reservation didnt include electricity so that kinda sucked! Id still go back! I used to come here as a kid. Frankensteins castle is creepy at night lol
Great woodsy area..
We love this park for photos. We even had our wedding ceremony here! Highly recommend it for homecoming, prom, wedding, family photos, etc.
Love walking the trails with my family
Love hiking the trails.
Beautiful walking areas. I wish more were stroller friendly. I couldnt tell if there was more than just the dogwood area as we parked here and couldnt get far with the stroller. It would be nice to have a sign with the details.
Nice park and trails for walking
Very nice park and has quite a bit of scenery for those who love nature and wildlife. They have shelters and places for campfires. There are two golf courses nearby (which are viewed when walking the trails to Patterson statue. Park is well maintained and kept nice. Great park for a day trip with the family. Highly recommended. This is also a great park for those with pets - very safe park.
Nice park for a walk with family or friends.
Just rating to give it 666 reviews
Love the trails nestled against the golf course.
Beautiful and peace place for trekking
Beautiful and plently of areas to take pictures
All of Five Rivers Metroparks are wonderful. Hills and Dales is an urban gem. Nice place for a walk in an urban forest. Lots of wildflowers and birds. Outdoor nature play area for kids. Picnic shelters. Board walk through a wetland area. Screech owls hang out here. Historical. Great place.
A taste of nature and solitude
Nice shaded trails, great dog walking paths.
Nice trails. Well kept park.
Beautiful park to walk and talk
Great time hiking with the kids at hill and dales
This was the pond area, very nice
I only had a chance to explore a small portion of this metropark. The walking paths are great, and I cant wait to see more. The restrooms and grounds being well taken care of is a huge plus as well.
Great for hicking or bikes. Playground is great other than being rather small.
One of the most beautiful parks in Dayton I think. So secluded and private and so pretty with the little pond!
Currently, there is a lot of construction near the playground entrance, but dont let it deter you from this amazing park! Sandbox, swings, picnic shelter and jungle gym. Lots of space to run around.
Amazing little park close in to Dayton. About 2 miles of rolling trail make for a nice walk or addition to break up a long run.
If I could rate them negative stars I would. Not wedding friendly even though they list themselves as wedding venues. I personally went to the park and spoke with the park manager prior to booking a wedding site and a reception site a year in advance. Emails from the park confirming our reservations all stated I needed to upload a liability insurance policy 30 days before the event. I purchased this non refundable policy but when I attempted to upload it 30 days before the wedding it would not let me. I contacted the park and was informed I did not need a liability policy. I’m reviewing the event however suddenly there was an issue in that the Dee Jay and food truck were not allowed, however due to miscommunication they were going to allow it but I had to purchase a special permit. I did so as it was too late to change the venue. The day of the event the person who issues the permits harassed us, stopping by during set up of the reception to make sure we were following their guidelines, went to the wedding site 13 minutes before the start of the ceremony and told the Dee Jay he was not permitted at the wedding, only at the reception site leaving us with no music for the bridal party to proceed to and causing a considerable delay in the start of the wedding as we scrambled to adjust. It was our Dee Jay that notified me, as the woman’s notification was an email that I didn’t see until the next day. What parent is checking their email 13 minutes before the start of the ceremony? Later at the reception s Park Ranger came through and rudely barked at one of my guests holding my car door open for me that alcohol was not allowed off the shoulder of the shelter grounds. My guest was drinking sparkling grape juice, and his glass was empty at the time anyway. Also, reserving a shelter does not reserve the parking lot at the shelter so you may or may not have a place for your guests to park.
This park is beautiful with a paved trail around the pond and a gravel trail that continues off of the paved trail. Nice shaded area to take a walk with the dogs.
Beautiful walking trail with incline.
A quiet place to enjoy the outdoors. The trails are nice and winding through the trees, paved, unpaved and boardwalk trails.
Nice trails and pretty location!
Another fantastic metropark! The nature play area and playground on the Hilton Drive side of the park are great for kids of varying ages. The hiking is good with a bit of elevation change in some parts. Nice wooden boardwalk over wetlands between the Paw Paw camp and Park Rd. The statue of John Patterson is fun to hike to. The Stone Tower is also a must. Only given 4 stars because of the golf courses, but there is not much metroparks can do about that. They did a great job with the land they had to use.
Just wasnt much and the trails was by a golf course just not for us
Scenic and quiet, but so close
Beautiful park
Great place for a quick walk, unfortunately littered with broken bottles.
Beautiful. Well maintained. Do not park anywhere on the side of the road if the lot is full. They will ticket you.
Hidden gem of the metroparks! Perfect trail, wide and well traveled, great for little ones as an intro to hiking! Is bordered on 2 sides by golf courses so very quiet park even though it is a narrow park.
Nice small playground area for the kids. Sheltered area for parties and restrooms. Moderate wooded trail for casual hiking. Definitely recommend
Love it..... Its like my vacation in the back yard... My pup and I are there all the time now.... They have a place for the kids and quite trails for us..... You kind of owe it to yourself lol
Nice but i hate looking at golfers
Great little park. Trails are perfect for small children and the shelters are in great shape.
Great hike
Best park Ive been to. Great hiking trails through the forest and waterfalls and lots of seating. Very relaxing
Very gorgeous. Loved every minute of this wonderful park.
Excellent park, with several great areas for family photos.
Beautiful place, especially PawPaw Lodge and the Pond at Dogwood Pavillion
Absolutely beautiful. Clean, well cared for. Large, second growth trees, wonderful water features. We identified at least 10 species of warblers in less than an hour.
