We went to the visitors center and it wasnt open even though the website said they were.
A great place to visit before going on a self guided tour. A young gentleman there very patiently answered questions about the battle. He knew his history and told me where to see the places of the battle I was interested in, such as Byram’s ford. This museum is run by an organization that is seeking to preserve and restore what is left of the battlefield and its history.
Quiet little museum I wasnt expecting to find. We were parked waiting to meet up with a friend and decided to stop inside. The Docent was pleasant, out going, and enthusiastic to chat. I found the museum to be fairly lacking in exhibits, it was mostly placards spread throughout one room.
Well preserved with great history.
No impressed. Im not sure if the volunteer was MIA the Thursday I went out of that was a regular occurance. Honestly, the website talks of the fact that its a walking tour, so maybe dont bother to visit the visitors center? Up to you.Fyi, good luck calling ahead because it seems the phone number on the website is not connected directly to the actual office, but affiliates of the center. If you call, be sure to be clear you need the direct number for the center.
This place is very cool! I really enjoyed learning and about the Civil War.
