Attentive, friendly and knowledgeable guide, interesting tour, beautiful historic home; loved all the original art and furnishings. Thomas Hart Bentons studio feels like he just left it yesterday. The home is not so huge that you get tired walking around in it. Our visit gave us a wonderful overview of the life, family and art of Thomas Hart Benton: highly recommended.

This is easily the best house museum Ive ever visited. Katie, our tour guide, was expert-level knowledgeable about Benton, his family, and the home and was wonderfully engaging by asking us questions and starting conversations. I had no idea that this place is the smallest national park in the US at a 1/3 of an acre! Very intimate experience and I felt like I came away with so much knowledge and insight. I hope to visit again soon and go on the Roanoke Walking Tour Katie put together.

This is a very important part of Kansas City History. This is a city that had top blues singers, artists such as Walt Disney and Thomas Benton. This city has one of the top Art Institutes in the World, Kansas City Art Institute. This is a place on the move and its time to represent.

I knew little about Thomas Hart Benton before coming to the museum, (Didnt even know his biggest works) and I feel like I left an expert. The tour is great. Informative, funny and just the right amount of time (45ish minutes). The Bentons house and the studio are filled with their possessions, so it really looks like they stepped out for the afternoon.Definitely a special place for Kansas City and Missouri history.

The tour guide had so much information about Thomas Hart Benton. The tour group was small, and this allowed me time to look at all the rooms and pictures. It was an informative and easy-going tour. Great experience in KC.

Joe was our guide, professonial, polite and knowledgeable. The state has done a great job of staying in touch with the Benton family and maintaining THB vision and style and keeping it alive in the home. You get to hear about the power of his wife and the influence his children had on this great artists life. If you are an artist, historian, Missourian or just want to hear a good story, then take 1-2 hours of your day and go. It’s in a beautiful neighborhood and the home has lots of heart and history to share with today.FYI THB painted the first shirtless self portrait in North America (so far as they know) I did not included it in the review, to keep somethings a surprise. Apparently THB saw himself as quite the Stallion!

We enjoyed a very interesting tour of Thomas Hart Bentons home and studio. The house is full of history with original furnishings, including his artwork and two stained glass windows painted by his daughter. The grounds are pretty. The home is located in an area of beautiful, older homes in the Roanoke area of Kansas City.

Just driving along as tourists looking for something to do and found this gem. Its like stepping back in time. Knowledgeable docent made this impromptu tour (for us) pleasant and memorable. Now we recommend THB to anyone swinging by Kansas City, which by the way is a great American city: best kept secret.

Im a big fan of the art of Thomas Hart Benton. After seeing his work at the Nelson Atkins Art Museum and the mural at the Harry S Truman Library and Museum, I was anxious to see his home and studio. The tour was very good. My small group of four received a delightful tour from a knowledgeable and attentive guide. He explained how THB lived and produced his art.

Worth taking the tour! The home is a wonderful example of the craftsman style, and is chock full of craftsman and Art Deco furniture and architectural details. The home is also full of Bentons art and belongings, all lovingly cared for and preserved. While you can enjoy the grounds on your own, the tour is required to go in either building. This site is a must if you are a fan of craftsman architecture, art deco furniture, Kansas City history, Mr. Bentons art, or all of the above!

The home is beautiful and it was fascinating to see the studio as Benton left it. The guide on our tour was a little short with us a couple of times (when I wandered a little ahead of her to peek in the next room and when my sister unknowingly touched a chair in the dining room) and that affected our enjoyment of the tour. Weve never had anything but wonderful experiences on Missouri historic site tours before this, though, and I wouldnt let this experience stop me from recommending this site to others.
