As close as you can get to an oasis of nature in an urban environment. This city block used to be a literal reservoir. Now its a littoral park.Ahem. There is a pond in the center that is well stocked with fish. Most of them are carp and goldfish that have been dumped here by careless aquarium owners. Now sport fishermen are invited on Sundays to catch them. Canadian geese also make their home here as well as woodchucks, squirrels, the occasional swan and bugs. But its a nice little getaway with a path circumnavigating the upper banks giving you a fun view of the sidewalks below. A group has made it their work to maintain the park by cutting back plants on the trail, counting the fish and also taking a head count of people in the park. The city seems to be intent on wrecking this beautiful little getaway, I suppose because politicians now see public service as a way to make themselves wealthy.Whatever.Do yourself, your sanity and this park a favor and visit when it is open. Hours are pretty regular and they are trying to make sure the park is open when the demand is the highest. Dont jump the fence and sneak in, let yourself be counted because they will report back to the federal parks office that there is demand for this to be open and serving the community. Do your patriotic duty and wear a mask while you visit so we can be done with this Covid thing ASAP.
Hidden gem with a fishing pond in the middle of Jersey City. Historical buildings add to the charm.
A great place to get lost in the urban jungle for a quick hike!
Beautiful and calm place among hustle and bustle of Jersey City.
Great and quite place for fishing.
Its a serene place to enjoy such natural beauty
This place is a gem.. there are few places in Jersey City that been around for so long without being touched.. please if you have the time go check it out trust me youll love it..
A piece of heaven in a busy city. A place to go to get back with nature. There are walk trails to see plants flowers birds and some animals. A place to go fishing but you have to put the caught fish back. They want to build up the population. If everyone takes tge fish you will have nothing left. They gave geese ducks and swans living there. In the spring you see the new families if birds. You might see a hawk flying around. Humming birds have been seen there. It is a very peaceful place.
Amazing oasis in the middle of the city. The water is full with fish. Do bring your rods. Just make sure you release the fish, since its not edible.
Great place to fish. No license needed. Very peaceful.
Best best and simply best place in whole city probablyIt’s not very well know I guess but that’s what makes it silent and enjoyableA simple long trail around the lake is not much maintained but sure is funYou can enjoy fishing, walk or simply sit by the reservoir and feel calmBest thing to do on weekends
Good for summer fishing. Fishing kit it available in front desk for free. Bring your own worms.
Very Good place to rest in cilence, or read a book.place for inspiration.
Really wanted to experience the area. Said that they open at 1p, waited until 1:30 fat was still locked. Can someone tell me the real time its open?
Great little natural area hidden in Jersey City consisting of a 13 acre open air Reservoir and trails circling it. It is still in the process of being revived by the Jersey City Reservoir Preservation Alliance and the City, but has amazing potential. Since its events are all volunteer run, the opening can be sporadic, but they do a good job of alerting online when its open and during the summer its typically every Saturday 9-5.
Good place for catch and release fishing 13 acres, bird watching, quiet surroundings for being in the city. It’s open 3 PM to 8 PM Monday Tuesday Thursday and Friday. Saturday it opens 10 AM 3 PM it’s close Wednesday and Sunday.
Such a beautiful place in the heights!
Beautiful green space. Aside from the view of the skyscrapers youd forget youre in a city. Kayaking and hiking are recommended. Good place to meditate and even bring a dog.
Very pretty and a nice walk, an oasis amidst the noise of life in the Heights. Its not open very often since volunteers are needed, but its well worth a visit on days when it is available to the public.
Good spot easy catching of fish . Small to pan size . If you want bigger you need to walk the bank so be prepared for climbing and walking a bit. Over all very positive experience.
Is a wonderful experience to come here. Is like nature in the city. If you have time come here I know you will enjoy it.
