Beautiful and sobering. This monument offers breathtaking views of the New York City skyline. Even on a cold cloudy day like the one I went on the views are beautiful. This is a great alternative to pay your respects to those lost without having to venture into the city and check out the crowded and tourist-filled 9/11 memorial. Aside from the monument there is a park nearby where you can relax/exercise/take pictures/ Picnic/ etc. at.

I photographed an engagement session at Liberty State Park and the Empty Sky Memorial was one of my favorite of the many locations in the park. It provides a great and very unique backdrop of either the New York City skyline and in the other direction a beautiful view of the sunset that lights up the structure. Im looking forward to my next opportunity to photograph there.

It is the official New Jersey September 11 memorial to the states victims of the September 11 attacks on the United States. It is located in Liberty State Park in Jersey City at the bank of Hudson River across from the World Trade Center site. the two walls of this memorial stretch 208 feet & 10 inches long (the exact width of the World Trade Center towers). The name of each of the 746 victims is etched in stainless steel in these walls. The goal of this memorial is to reflect the legacies of those whose lives were lost, that their unfulfilled dreams and hopes may result in a better future for society. The name of the memorial is taken from the Bruce Springsteen song Empty Sky, which is about the empty sky where the towers once stood. An iron beam from twin towers is also kept here. At the time of sunset or sunrise, there is an arch of sunrays reflected between two walls and its really cool.If you are going to see the statue of liberty, don’t forget to make a pit stop. its totally worth it. also, you can have a great Manhattan view from here.Parking: Parking is free for 2 hours just near to this memorial. another option is paid to park in the parking lot of Liberty ferry services.

Very beautiful and moving memorial. The area around is great for walking and picnicking. The gardening around the area and views of the city skyline are spectacular. We were sitting at the end of the trail (by the memorial, as close to the river as you can get, and the way the wind was coming through the docks was making such an eerie sound like souls calling out. CHILLS!

It can become very cliche real fast for us northeners! Nonetheless its still a great opportunity area for some really good shots of the sunrise as well as the sunset! Coming here early in the morning before the sunrises is the perfect opportunity to get a good skyline shot with the sun behind the buildings! It provides enough light for people shots as well. Night shooting could turn out very well here as well!

Beautiful and well designed monument. I think we as Americans tend to forget about September 11th and just how tragic that day was. This memorial will take you right back to that day. Looking down the middle of those two columns and seeing where the tower used to stand is a real gut check. You can also get awesome views of lower Manhattan as well. Off to the right of this monument you can purchase Ellis Island Ferry tickets to visit the Statue of Liberty. Highly recommend visiting this location.

Review №42

The design is a very well-thought and captures many different emotions at once. Its just one of those places that you have to be there to experience it. Chose a warm day without breezy conditions, so you can totally emerse yourselves. Coming on a cold and breezy day will only make you want to run indoors, instead of enjoying.

This memorial is NOT where the Twin towers stood originally, BUT it is at a strategically placed location from where you could view the twin towers when they existed and with two WALLS with reflective surfaces give a view of EMPTY SKY from wherein you can look towards the site of destruction which is now EMPTY.....& to add effect they have TWO massive IRON / STEEL pieces retrieved out from debris of the towers........The reflective walls of the memorial guides the viewer to reflect upon oneself or the life around seems this was the idea of the architect.....Felt a great sense of peace and respect to the lives of people who left us and to the families and the rescue workers........MUST VISIT if u happen to be in New Jersey or NY...it is located on the bank of Hudson river........Open to the public and free.....

This is a monument located in Liberty State Park dedicated to those who lost their lives on 9/11. The names of those who lost their lives are written on the walls of these two monuments, which when, standing and looking toward the city through the two monuments, you can see where the twin towers once were.

Review №47

This memorial site is beautiful... but empty. It is called the empty sky memorial... but the memorial is also empty. No one comes here because the area is not well maintained. You drive past houses with barred windows and doors and past many empty parking lots to get to it, giving the impression that no one cares or even knows this place exists. The city could absolutely put effort into making this a tourist attraction. This was my first visit to Jersey City and it will be my last because it was so vastly different than the culture across the water in NYC. I am glad I went and experienced it, but was disappointed in the atmosphere and overall experience of the city.

Beautiful memorial and an amazing view of lower Manhattan skyline. The view from the memorial points to where WTC towers once stood and the shiny surface of the walls adds an illusion of Empty Sky! The inside walls are inscribed with names of victims and couple of steel beams from the WTC wreakage reminds of the terrible day.Bring your kids and food and you can take a long walk inside Liberty State Park. There is a restroom, parking is free and area is well patrolled. Must visit if you are in New Jersey or NYC.

On 9/11 many injured fire fighters were evacuated from the area and were transported by boat to this very location. There is a piece of the Twin Towers on sight as part of the monument. A beautiful memorial for a tragic day that will never be forgotten. Located to the north of the old train station at Liberty park this monument . I wish guests would respect it though. Chinese tourists were laughing and standing in it for shade having 0 clue what it was or what it represented. A shadow once cast in the NYC Skyline no more.

Upward looking sky with no twin towers reflecting deep within the lives that were lost, having gone through countless emotions and hopes as big as the sky, moments before they collapsed and all that remains were the mortal remains of the small piece of tower lying there infront of the memorial speaking volumes of how small the terrorists thought. And we rise as we walk through the empty memorial the view of maginificient One World Trade Center tells you, how we humans have defeated the odds and rised against the will of those who are anti and have crushed their negative thoughts. Life Moves On Bigger and Better once its Challenged, the Memorial is a Living Testament of that. God Bless the Souls and God Bless America
