This place is super cool, though not much of a hike. Loved seeing the trenches and all the bunkers!
Nice place to walk about and read the stories of early Jamestown. Interesting to know that history like the island had very few trees back during the 19th century . All man made to support the livestock . I do recommend this park, and the town could do more to celebrate it’s own historic location in the Northeast.
Empty and great place for lunch!
Nice little historic park
Such scenic beauty on such a small island...my wife and go here when we want to share quiet conversation and the cool on shore breezes... well sometimes bring a breakfast or lunch picnic and some collapsible chairs and just sit and relax taking in the smells and stillness...once in-a-while a cottontail will run by...the area is always clean and kept by the RI parks and recreation...take your trash with you !
This place is a hidden gem. Lots of history with informative plaques throughout the small park. A good place to go in the winter when the leaves are off the trees; beautiful views of the water.
Pretty historic. Great for a jog
Great history lesson from the revolutionary war and ww2. Amazing installation. Quiet and peaceful.
Nice place to go after long work day to relax and spend time with the family
Great place. Everyone from Rhode Island must go.
Terrific place for a short hike, with terrific views, stone benches for resting, meditating, eating a picnic, etc. Dog and kid friendly. Very interesting history.
Its a beautiful Park and a good place to go fossil hunting on the granite Bluffs
Beautiful historical location that is now a park, does not go all the way down to the water. there are some great trees there.
This is the remnants of a Patriot fortification that stood guard of the west passage of Jamestown Island. The British at the time held Newport, and when they learned Patriot rebels were on Jamestown, they raided the fort, and forced them to flee. After this, the British used the fort, dug it deeper, built it taller, until the French Navy came to bail us out in 1778. The French fired cannon on Jamestown, which forced the British to flee this time! Jamestown has also been one home to the Narragansetts, and Indian Burial grounds and artifacts have been found on the island.
Was interesting.
