Our guests from San Antonio, TX and Salt Lake City, UT absolutely loved the museum and the gift shop. The woman who worked in the gift shop was charming, to quote one of our guests. Our guest also said in all of her travels this is one of the best gift shops she has ever visited. They also cant stop talking about the stunning and beautiful, White Cloud, the albino buffalo. (An albino buffalo is extremely rare, they say a one-in-ten-million occurrence!) This is a great place to stop, stretch your legs, and experience a one-of-a-kind buffalo museum and herd close up.
This National Buffalo museum in Jamestown, North Dakota educates us about the significance that the Buffalo made to all people across a large portion of the United States, their history, and the conservation efforts of many people that brought the Buffalo back to a healthy population from near extinction. This museum is just a short detour from I-94 to get to and has a gift shop with many items that you may what to buy and support this museum.
Pretty nice place with a lot of history about the american buffalo. They also have a nice replica of a frontier town and the giant sculpture is something else. It was a bummer that we couldnt see any wild buffalos.
Cool little museum. Interesting displays. We went to see the World Largest Buffalo Statue. Great gift shop!
Social distancing offers unique opportunities while driving from Point A to Point B. This stop was one of them. Fun stop with all the history to see in the individual old town buildings. A chance to stretch and enjoy a walk during a long drive. Very few people around right now, so no crowd. Not great for the museum but nice for us.
The history of Bison was depicted and presented factually and historically well. The gift shop was very enjoyable and we purchased many items for our sons and grandsons the herd was awesome to watch when you could see them. We have visited three times in the past four months.
Cute place! Great for families, couples, or groups. I highly recommend the gift shop before the Jamestown village, the people who run it are lovely. The giant buffalo is a must see along with the buffalo family at the gift shop! P.S. if you see the buffalo, buy a feed bag for 50¢ from the front counter... they love it!
Super friendly place and inexpensive! I didnt get to see the buffalo tho! Guess they were sleeping!
Wife wanted to see the worlds largest buffalo We were on our way to Bismarck from Fargo and Jamestown seemed like a good place to pullover for a break. Google Maps directions took us along a gravel road to get here but upon leaving my TomTom GPS avoided that gravel road. This museum has a building that serves as the main museum that has a gift shop and you pay/donate to go through the exhibits but there is also an outside town to walk through (most buildings have a donation box) and step into some of the buildings that are on display with furniture, manikins, etc.At one end of the town is a playground/picnic area and a path leading to the worlds largest buffalo. There are two pay binoculars here to use to see the buffalo nearby is desired.Parking is free, we parked near the chapel and I believe I saw a handicap spot here as well and perhaps near the museum as well? Some folks just drove to the end of the town, made a u-turn and drove back. It wasnt too busy when we visited.
Interesting display. The gal in the afternoon that let us in was very pleasant. The one in the morning, not so much. Glad we chose to come back later.
Museum showing history and terrible slaughter of the bison/buffalo in the early US. Everyone needs to see this and to appreciate what we have.
Some roadside attractions off of 94 are underwhelming, but this one is worth the detour! It hits all the right buttons with equal amounts of information, kitsch & fun. It is actually 3 attractions in one- the Buffalo Museum, the Frontier Village & the worlds largest buffalo sculpture- thats a lot of roadside bang for your buck! The buffalo museum itself is nicely curated and very informative, I think its the perfect introduction to the history of the buffalo in America before you head farther west and see some for yourself!
Great history on the restoration of the American Buffalo from nearly extinct. I did not see Dakota Legend, the white buffalo in the herd. And on my first trip to the herd, they were out by the highway. My second trip, they were behind the museum and moved toward the Frontier Village (which is free).Admission wasnt too bad, $8/adult.
Cool and interesting place to visit just off of Interstate 94 in a very scenic location. If you are driving across the great plains, this is a great place to learn about (and see) the animal most ubiquitous with its landscape and history. Well worth the stop. Plus, the Worlds Largest Buffalo statue is nearby.
Being on a fixed income, its free for EBT card holders. Really enjoyed it.
A wonderful place to learn why the buffalo should be a protected species.
Nice little museum about the bison. Very informative.
For the nature lover, this is one of the best museums that we have been to. Home of the Albino Buffalo that is highly regarded by Native Americans. I would suggest anyone interested in knowing anything about the preservation of the Great American Bison should go there and learn the real history.
Museum was better than I expected even has real fur out so you can touch it!
If youre at all genuinely interested in subject matter youll enjoy this small but well done museum. Learned about white Buffalo. I loved the art the most.
Lots of cool history, and a great way to burn a couple of hours.
We love the frontier village that was right beside the museum as it was free. The museum was operated primarily so it costed to get in. We did love seeing the buffalo and the largest buffalo statue in the world, 26 tall.
Worlds largest buffalo! Fun little historic town. Live Buffalo to view and a super cool Museum about Buffalo! Worth the stop
Awesome museum. Great village also.
This is a nice little roadside stop where you can see a small herd of buffalo in an enclosed field behind the museum. You may even see their resident white buffalo. The museum itself is tiny and ludicrously overpriced. So, skip thay part and just enjoy the gift shop, outdoor vista, and nearby giant buffalo statue.
Nice place, have lots of interesting views and ideas that helps visitor knows the origin of the buffalo.
A great little musem off the beaten path great value. A must see
The museum was amazing. The pioneer town was not open when I was there. It appeared to be a fun place to visit during opening times. Got to view a herd of buffalo, complete with the rare white buffalo.
Love this place, the gunfight with Ike and the rest if the gang is fun to watch, stagecoach was enjoyable with my granddaughter
Very nice attraction. Great for people travelling.
Really awesome! The view from the worlds largest Buffalo is something you cant put in words!Ive eaten Buffalo, but never seen one before I stopped here. The small frontier town is interesting, and the general store has a lot of nifty, albeit very expensive, items.
Unfortunately, I arrived when they were closing, but if you are in the area a must stop.
Very nice collection.
Really neat, well laid out museum, and very interesting. Definitely worth the stop! And the frontier town next to it was fun to walk through.
Great hospitality. Great pass over for the night. Owner is wonderful and has a wonderful warm personaility. Ty so much.
A fantastic little museum! I loved watching the herd out back.
Very cool, huge buffalo. Very nice frontier village there as well. Nice spot to stop! Live buffalo herd but did not see them during our visit.
Museums not worth the price but the village is pretty awesome and the people are very nice!
A bit pricey, with buffalo were a little closer. But loved the experience!
This was fun. A little on the touristy side but interesting... And if you are interested in louis lamour this is where he was until around age 12. Real buffalo, including 2 white buffalo. Pony rides and a stage coach rides and the worlds largest buffalo to boot. The goat was fun too...
Top quality exhibits. Loved the movie. Very informative.
Such a fun spot. Everything was really cute very enjoyable free. stop and take your kids they will love it
Saw the white buffalo!! Not many people get to see a white buffalo in their lifetime!! Very sacred to receive this blessing! So worth the trip!!
One of my favorite places to stop in North Dakota. I am a huge fan of white cloud, what an amazing animal. Also the museum is packed full of information. Also you should know that what we call buffalo are actually American Bison or Tatanka. When European people first saw them they looked like water buffalo. American Bison
Very interesting. Also in same block as Frontier village and giant bison statue. Village was free and worth the stop.
It was as expected. Plenty of info and some buffalo outside.
The art exhibit is truly amazing. The story of how we almost completely wiped out the Buffalo is a sad one. The museum does a good job of telling this part of our history.
Nice place to stop and visit. The western town is free and the museum does charge. We were there for about 2hours. Unfortunately the white buffalo has passed away.
Great place to learn about the buffalo of the great plains. Very educational and some fun stuff too.
Great place to stop on our journey. Stop at the Visitors Center . Awesome lady working today.
So much history so close to the expressw9.
A great little museum for Buffalos. Pricey for the size of the indoor exhibits, but the money also goes to support the herd which is the real reason to go.
Good place to go. Take the kids or anyone for that matter. Very enjoyable and worthwhile. I want and intend to go back some day.
Historical old town, great for learning more about the area and history of North Dakota.
Always love stopping by this place to see the buffalo. Never disappoints. Been stopping by the big buffalo since 82
Fun, little museum and gift shop.Me and the largest buffalo statue!
Great fun and a great learning experience!
Have you ever seen a white buffalo? This museum hosts one. The art and relics in the museum are very interesting.
Biggest buffalo in the world, white albino buffalo too. Take you picture under this concrete monster. My guess is over 30 ft tall by 60 long. I would go again and have told alot of people about this place. One of the coolest picture memories we have.
Not what I expected. Friendly and helpful staff.
I had a lot of fun here. I learned a lot looking through the museam and got see a lot of beautiful artwork. The buffalo were really cool to look out and some of the binocular things were free (I know most of them are 50 cents but as a person who doesnt carry enough change, its a lot). Good for kids, lots of places to walk around and look at and learn. Good picture spot too. Gift shop and icecream too.
Nice free stop, but I have yet to see a Buffalo after several visits.
We had a lot of fun here. Didnt have a chance to go into the museum itself though, we just wandered around outside as a quick pit stop and because wed never stopped at the giant buffalo before. Totally worth it! Really fun area to see. Will try to stop and see the museum itself at some point. There are a lot of fun period shops around there as well that looked really cute.
Great place for the whole family. Lots to see and very exciting. I felt like a kid in a candy store. Highly recommend if you’re driving through or looking for a place to relax.
This was our first time coming here at it was AMAZING! Thank you guys for all that you do there!
Nice place to visit. Didnt see any live buffalo but the statue was high. Take some time to go through the town replica, it was interesting. They have some rides for kids but not our cup of tea.
Educational for kids and adults, learn more about our history right here in our home state of North Dakota
Saw the giant buffalo from the interstate had to stop. Very cool place to visit
This Museum is a must see! There are 2 White Buffalo among the heard in the pasture adjacent to the museum. Inside the Museum is a beautifully restored White Buffalo named White Cloud, along with many other professionally prepared exhibits for all ages to enjoy. The theater runs an informative movie about the history of American Buffalo. If you visit in the early morning when they open or in the evening when it’s cooler, (or both, like we did), you may get a longer look at the White Buffalo (Bison), out in the pasture and visible from the parking lot. This is an amazing experience to see the White Tatanka(Bison).I can’t say enough about the Museum Director, Ms. Xinos, as she was very accommodating, along with her staff. They were informative and engaging. They could tell us about the character of the White Buffalo and their interactions with the heard. The gift shop has some very reasonably priced and appealing gifts.Outside the Museum is the giant Buffalo statue that the kids will love, and the Historical town. There’s something for everyone!
Museum was small, old village was nothing fancy, and buffalo herd was not visible. The giant buffalo statue was really cool though.
Super cool place to visit!
Nice stop on our road trip. Tours are only $7 and there is lots to see, plus funds go to help preserve the herd. We enjoyed the views of the parking lot!
Its a good place to visit and spend time around the east of ND. Also, a pioneer site along the way to the biggest Buffalo statue.
The Museum is not FREE. The gift shop staff was friendly and helpful.
Amazed at this wonderful little museum. A lot to see and learn. The live buffalo were hiding in the shade of the trees and we were not able to see them, but that did not diminish the museums welcome and charm.
Interesting and if you are lucky the albino buffalo will be in view
National Buffalo Museum is a fun place to visit while in Jamestown. Lots of things to learn and see while there. Going during the winter itll be a lot quieter and going in the summer therell be more activities going on in the Frontier Village.
Highly recommend. Tons of history and a bunch to learn. Well worth the admission price if you ask me
Excellent display of art and decor
GREAT experience !!! Well worth the stop. Love watching the buffalo!!!
Saw a few buffalo on the other side of the large buffalo but no white buffalo... So mysterious!! Neat museum!
Nostalgic throwback of history.
These creatures deserved better
Great stop on a long road!
Straight forward a little pricey, but my daughter loved it.
The biggest buffalo was fun and theres a small play ground too. The kids needed it on our long road trip. There are real buffalo to view as well as a few nanny goats. It was a fun and inexpensive place to stop.
Interesting place. Saw an albino buffalo in the pasture. Very nice old frontier town next to the concrete buffalo named Dakota Thunder.
Great place to go. Very interesting.
Lots to learn about bison and the native americans that relied on them.
Cool place to drop by.
Great displays really nice people
This place is awesome! The Buffalo statue is great, the museum is great and the old Frontier town is wonderful. Easy to find right off the highway! Highly recommend!
