This was a fun tour! You get to see the history of prisons in Michigan and you get to see some old cells along with the big prison block that is set up for tourists in the Jackson prison. You wouldnt expect it to be so interesting, but the engaging staff and the setup really made it super interesting.
I did the Jacktown double tour with owner/guide Jim.The tour was great. It was nice to see the contrast between the original state prison, and the more modern facility that now serves as the state prison.Jim has done a good job at immersing himself in the history and he was not stumped by any questions. He also had lots of great stories to go along with the tour.I was fortunate enough to be with a small group, and with only eight of us, he was able to personally interact with everyone on the tour. It’s too bad cameras or phones are not allowed within the active prison as there are some great photo ops. ( prison policy, not tour policy.) You can always just find them online. There is a little bit of walking, and several stairs on the tour. I’m not sure I would recommend it for very young children, or people who have severe mobility issues.Even if you have kids or people that have a hard time getting around, they do have the option of skipping parts. This is a tour I would consider doing again when my travels bring me to Michigan.
Fabulous tour! Couldnt have asked for any better. The history, knowledge, etc. Over the top! Thanks so much!
One of the best tours I have ever done!!! Fantastic tour guide and just an unbelievable experience.
Good Tour one of the original walls are still there
Loved it it makes the hair on your neck stand up gave me the creeps that is what makes it great you must see it l date you
Such an interesting tour!
Absolutely Amazing
Journey back through time on the same grounds as the original prisoners in Jackson dating back to the 1830s and the citys inception, including convict-turned-Major League Baseball success story Ron LeFlore. A bicycle path intersects what is now largely grown-over land, but much of the original walls remain - along with the old Lansing spur railroad tracks that run by the outside of the old west wall.
Very cool but scary. Lots of historical value and interesting information to learn about.
We did the Jacktown Double tour - both the original prison and Cell Block 7 of the more recent prison. It was much more than I expected - very informative and entertaining. Hours later, I am still buzzing over all the things we saw and stories we heard. I cannot recommend this experience enough. Having the guided tour is well worth the cost.
Very cool, just walked the grounds. couldnt afford the tour.
Great tour! So many fascinating stories. Definitely a tour worth taking.
Ughhh, well, if your looking for a prison tour experience, this is not it !! Old building, yes, old wall, yes, some old pic, yes...2 adults 3 kids well over $100 and theres not a single cell...some hippie artists, a bike shop and some apartments....thats the tour..was kinda pissed! Dont do this tour unless extremely bored ! Go to the newer prison
I own this venue and think it’s the best prisontour in America.
Learn about the history of Jackson and Michigans penal system.
