Jessica gave me a tour and it was fantastic. We walked and talked throughout the house and then she oriented me to the gardens in back. The house was as Eudora left it and Jessica was very knowledgeable about Eudoras life. So much fun. Tours are going on now $10 but call ahead to reserve.
A dont miss attraction for those who adore literature and history. The gardens are beautiful, too!
Even our 16 year old granddaughter enjoyed the tour!
Worth learning about, could learn most about it by a through reading in the welcome center. Was interesting looking through the house. $10 tour fee goes to a good cause.
Great place to visit. Beautiful gardens and lots of history. Great learning about one of Mississippis finest writers
Went on a school trip here the staff is very nice
Beautiful house and garden! I wish it had been open for a tour while we were there.
Eudora Welty remarked, Fiction depends for its life on place. Place is the crossroads of circumstance, the proving ground of, What happened? Whos here? Whos coming? Visiting her home, I felt this sense of place. When our group entered her bedroom on our tour, I could vividly picture her writing at her desk, windows open for a breeze and to inhale the scent of the garden and to hear the music from Bellhaven University drifting on the breeze. The introductory video kept everyones interest and the visitors center exhibits are well done and provide glimpses into Ms. Weltys fascinating life. She was a genius and I look forward to reading her work.
Extremely sweet and hospitable people. Very knowledgeable and helpful. The home & information center/gift shop is kept up immaculately. The home is intact to orginalality of Eudora time. I would definitely recommend to any book lover, history buff or just looking for something to do. The home is not handicap accessible though. Which is understandable in keeping to the orginalality.
Welty was a wonderful author as anyone who likes her work knows but this tour gives so much more insight into her as a person and her history. Our guide was excellent and from the moment we called to make reservations it was a pleasant experience. No pictures inside but the tour through the house was really like visiting Ms Welty. There is a small museum in the building next door (where tickets are paid for) with some of her books and some mementoes for sale and there is an excellent 15 minute film that starts the tour. If you like literature and dont know Eudora Welty go visit anyway, youll probably end up a convert.
Very educational. Lots of standing and walking
This is the house of famous mississippi writer Eudora Welty. It has been turned into a museum encapsulated in the space and time of when she lived and a testament to her work. Definitely an interesting tour if youre into that type thing. Sometimes they also host special events in the garden area also.
We were staying in Jackson and had some time in the afternoon, so we picked Ms. Weltys home. Not enormous fans, but I liked several of her books, and my mother was a very big fan. Turns out that the tours are on a timetable, and calling ahead is highly recommended. But the person in the office offered to let us catch up with the tour already in progress, and when the tour ended, our guide went back and led us through the part we missed. She was extremely knowledgeable and after we had spent some time in the garden, we went back to the exhibit section and she started up the film especially for us. We felt like we had our own personal tour. Admittedly, the house is not especially busy this time of year, but we were very grateful for the attention we received. It made the experience especially enjoyable. And helped develop a better appreciation for a true icon of American literature. The staff love their subject and they demonstrate it so well. Ms. Welty would be proud of what they do.
I was the only one on the 3pm tour yesterday but I didnt mind it. It starts off with a 20 minute movie about the author then the tour guide takes you through the house and the garden. The staff were very friendly and the whole tour was very interesting. I have no complaints for the tour at all otherthan I wish I was allowed to take photos of the house. The tour last about 40 minutes I think and I highly recommend it.
Great house full of interesting history.
Everyone should Experience this Fabulous Writer & All Her Contributions; Especially ALL MISSISSIPPIANS!!! We really enjoyed the tour so informative!!!
I am a poor judge for this place. I found it boring and left half thru the tour....
Prefer walking through at my own pace. Was not allowed to tour house unless guided tour.
Beautiful. Just beautiful!
Great writer, great history. Wonderful staff.
A small beautiful house that was home to a brillant writer.
This is the house that Eudora Welty lived in & where she wrote her books.Next door is a museum & exhibit of some of her works.Until April 2013 there is a special exhibit on her book - The Shoebird - the only book she wrote for children.
