This is one of the challenging hikes with nearly 2000 ft gain in just ~2 miles. It’s straight up to the mountain, highly elevated. Whole trail is rough (except 1/4 mile straight path) with lot of spots quiet slippery. I wouldn’t recommend without hiking sticks and shoe with good grip. Should be extra cautious and watch each step mostly when coming down. Overall it’s a good workout.Note: Cable line trail does not start from West Tiger 3 parking lot. It starts near the lot on road side before you enter the parking place.
Short and sweet grind 1.5 miles up with 2000 feet gain. Instantly heads up from parking. Can be a bit slippery or loose coming down depending on the season. No views or rewards at the top except that you get to come down. Continual erosion makes the trail even more challenging for those with ankle and knee concerns.
If you are looking for a really challenging trail that is short but has a 2K ft. elevation climb then look no more. The cable line trail can be tricky on the way down due to loose gravel so make sure your shoes have a good grip and a hiking stick will be useful to save you from slipping.I hit this trail at the end of July so the ground is really dry. Once you get to the top you do have the option of taking an easier path down that has switchbacks. The roundtrip was 6 miles and took about 3 hours.
Very steep in places. Like a short mailbox peak trail. No view at the top. Loud highway noise in the lower sections of the trail. Great training hike.
Great! The signage is well maintained and the trail even begins with some stairs! Hard hike but very rewarding views!
A favorite trailhead to launch a tough hike. Close to home and a helluva workout. I recommend hiking up Cable Line, and down W. Tiger 3, unless youre fond of falling on your butt.
Great workout. Not much of a view at the top but good training hike.
Good steep hike for when you want a lot of elevation in a short distance.
Loved this hike. Its an intermediate level hike.
If you like intense hikes, look no further. This is a real leg burner and will definitely get your heart rate up.
You would think with how much I go here that I would give it five stars. But this just isnt worthy of a five star rating as a hike, unless you are purely rating it for the close proximity to Seattle and the grunt factor. Dont go here if youre looking for a beautiful hike with expansive views. Go here if you want to grind up 2,000 vertical in 1.5 miles.
The trailhead has parking but not enough to get there late on a weekend. The trail itself is not a trail. If you want to hike a trail use the alternate routes up to the top. Cable line itself has signs that say its not really a trail and its unsafe for hiking. Its 2000 feet of gain in 1.5 miles. You know youve accomplished some thing after youve climbed out.
The place to go for a quick leg burner.
Hard as you know what but worth every blister creating step.
Easy hike and connects to other trails on tiger mountain.
This is a strenuous hike! I am glad I took the hiking poles. Steep. No switchbacks. Not much of a view. But a great exercise. Took me 3 hours and I am a slow hiker.
This is a mostly well groomed trail with some moderate climbing and plenty of shade. A better view at the top would make this short hike a 5 star gem.
Great hike. Not too difficult. Theres a reason its super busy on nice weather days
Great for training purposes - challenging terrain and very steep, but a short and direct clearly defined trail.
Awesome work out, be careful a little muddy
Conveniently close to Issaquah. There are very many signs posted on the road now saying No Overnight Parking.
As far as a day hike, its great as long as you dont mind the herds of REI wearing, granola munching weekend warriors. Enjoy it while you can.
Parking on the weekends is always tricky, but if you go before or after peak hours, itll be super easy to find a spot. You do not need your Discovery pass to park on the road, but do remove your valuables from your car.
I have been getting a work out on this non maintained and often unmarked trail for many years. It is much steeper then any regular hiking trail. It’s highly eroded and is easy to fall on at the best of times. When muddy or frozen it can be treacherous. It’s also a great work out and the fastest route to the summit of Tiger Mtn West Summit 3.
A tough hike. 2000ft of elevation gain in a mile. A great spot to train for any bigger hikes/climbs. The trail is not as maintained as many others Ive been on, but that makes for a more interesting challenge.
This is a scrappy, steep trail thats slimey and slick when damp or wet. Perfect mountaineering training hike!
Tough trail with minimal maintenance and views- but great for training
Not a pretty trail. Its a trail you do to get exercise, or just To do it. Good mid length hike with steep, rough terrain
I dont remember being here so Im assuming its nothing to write home about.
Expensive. Busy. Hip. Weird way to order for a group of 7. Bad White Russian cocktail.
This is a short, steep, grungy, and eroded hike, with no views at all. However, if youre looking for an after work workout and dont mind the grind, it is a phenomenal workout.
Only thing fun about cable line, is being done...
Cable Line offers a good workout trail with convenient access to I90 near Issaquah. The trail itself can be quite slick when rainy. It acts as a natural channel for runoff, so expect to hike or run in a creek during the rain. T3 summit and back can be walked in under 2 hours, but expect significant perspiration...and remember to yield to those going up. It seems the car break-ins, evidenced by broken glass, have decreased since the Tent City homeless encampment has moved back to the area. Highway noise near the beginning really detract from this trail.
From the I-90 High Point TH, there is really easy trials like the swamp and Puget Power/around the lake trails. Then standard trails like Tiger 3 that are not terribly steep, but will give you a bit of a workout, then there is the Cableline and Section Line trails......
Come here with a loaded pack for the best quad-burning training hike this close to Seattle. This offers up the best bang for your training buck.Descend via the West Tiger trail for less knee pounding on the way down!
Doesnt have a scenic vista at the summit but a good training hike!
Difficult and slipery
Beautiful. Check it out.
Very good workout for those in a decent physical condition. Steep and rocky. Poles recommended, and be very cautious in a wet weather. There is an option to partially combine with West Tiger #3 trail, which is much safer on a way down.
This trail is often muddy. And quite steep. Many like it because of that, but I prefer its neighbor - West Tiger #3 trail, which has a much better surface, and gains elevation more gradually.
No pretty views, no gentle slopes, just a tough climb. If you like a challenge and the journey is your destination, then this is for you. Hiking boots and water are a must, poles are recommended.Parts of this trail suffer from erosion. When given the opportunity, take the less worn sections of trail.
Parking area is parallel to I-90. Lots of space, tho you might have to walk a bit if you start late.
Rough and steep, never intended to be a trail, this is one of the best places to get a quick elevation workout close to Seattle and the Eastside. Muddy, rooty and rocky, it gets you to the top of West Tiger 3 without bothering with switchbacks. Trekking poles definitely recommended for the descent to avoid twisting an ankle or taking a tumble.
Beautiful
Decent trail. Great view at top
Kick button hike, mostly steady vertical going up with a couple of flat spots, steeper going down!
Great training hill near the city
Great well maintained hiking area
Trail condition deteriorated a bit. Passable.
Tough but fun hike
Beautiful, had a great hike
Straight up and very rocky / unstable, but a great hike.
Very popular State Park. Discovery Pass Required. Lots of flat trails and access to ones going up the mountain.
Best place for trail conditioning near the city!
Incredibly step trail thats popular with runners.
Recommend at minimum Yaktracks during the winter.
This was amazing...want to ride a bike here sooo bad!
Good, close to Seattle, hard training hike for Rainier.
Steep poorly maintained hike, but same beautiful nature and its free parking.
Great hike before work
Beautiful
Unless youre in really good shape take those switchbacks
Adventurous
A little bit muddy
Great little walk
Nothing to do about the trail. I have an irrational fear of high voltage. This trail leads to a transfer station. No can do.
Conditioning hike
Great for an intense, quick workout.
Beautiful nature
