Hopefully now that this golf club/course is under new management they will make some improvements.1. The Club is asking golfers who are practicing in the pitching area to use their golf balls and sleeve which makes zero sense.How does using their equipment make any sense during a global pandemic? It doesnt. People want to use their own equipment and not touch anything else someone has touched or used. Also, wearing a mask while no one is within 6 or even 10 feet away from you is over the top, its too fearful and no one will return to this golf club if you continue to run it the way you are, especially in the condition it is in...

Nice day walking and carrying for 18 holes. Fairways a bit underpar, but greens challenging and good condition. Worth the price for a good round of worthy golf.

This is my home course and I love it! Amazing friendly staff and a pleasure to play on. People talk of pace of play but honestly I’ve never been much affected by it- after the hole 1-2-3 crush it spreads out and never had to wait to tee off. Finish 18 holes in about 4 hours 15 mins usually. It’s a descriptively tricky course, some challenging greens, fairways have improved over the year I’ve played here. They are working to improve the grounds but people whack divets and holes in the grass and don’t repair... some beginners here but I like that. Recommend to all!

Nice area of Newport Beach. The City of Newport Beach put in a landscaped dog park between MacArthur Blvd. And Avocado Avenue which has become very popular with dog owners.

I was driving down Harvard on my motorcycle and once again saw a golf ball bouncing towards me down the street. This is super dangerous you need to put up a net! You could cause a crash or break someones windshield. Second time just this week! Please fix it.

Easy to Park and staff are very nice.

Great Value. Excellent practice facility open until 11pm. Membership pays for itself just by using the range 3 times in a month. Employees and Volunteers are friendly. The course, practice center, and range stay consistently busy which can slow pace a bit. However pace usually picks up by the 5th hole, and Members can call ahead and reserve a space at the range. Great place to practice.

An old course that stayed the same as it has for a long time. Tee mounds are dilapidated, fairways are barren despite charging so much. A huge part of the fairways have no grass at all. Last time I played this course, the PA system was not working so they were not able to get players called in time to start. It could have been a nice course, challenging especially the Part 3s. Water hazards are well placed, same with the bunkers. But for the price you pay, go somewhere else to get a better playing experience.

Im not the greatest golfer so maybe thats why I love this place. The course is laid out well and isnt too hard. I had a good time and I really like the scenery. Beautiful.

My tee off was 30 minutes late. Talking to the starter, they let off 3 fivesomes in a row. He estimated my round would go 5-1/2 hours. I think based on the golfers teeing off, the lack of urgency with the starter and staff it would easily go 6 hours. They obviously pack as many on the course as they can. The staff said, “They were trying to accommodate everyone”. Well, they didn’t accommodate me. I left before teeing off. I gave it 2 stars because I’m trying to be as nice as I can.

Enjoyed the course, nice variety of holes and the up hill par 3s added to the difficulty. Greens were good but soft which made them a tad slow...if they were fast, some of the pin placements would have been very difficult.Would like to see more aiming points or info to help new visitors off the tees.4hr 45 min round was a tad long but it didnt feel too bad.All in all enjoyable and would play again.

Fun course. Greens are in great shape. Pin placements are tough. The course is in very average shape. Very over played. The thing that bothered me is that the driving range is a long distance away and packed. Had to wait forever to hit balls then by the time I started, had to leave for the tee time.

8 inches of sand in all traps. Cant hit any longer shots out. Fairways and rough very spotty; some great some bad. Greens excellent.

I like the layout of the course quite a bit. It has plenty of dog leg holes several of which have blind tee shots or second shots. Its one of those courses you need to play five or six times before youre comfortable there. The greens are undulating and tricky but thats okay. When I played there there seemed to be a lot of mud on the course and then some bare spots where there should have been grass hopefully that gets taken care of soon. The staff in the pro shop and the starter were very courteous and the food in the restaurant is really good.

The greens were great but the fairways and tee boxes were beat up...we arrived 35 minutes from our ttime (12pm) and didnt tee off until 12:45...they ran out of carts, imagine that!! Pace of play was 5.5 hours. I know it was a Sunday but cmon man...the only reason they get 3 stars because at the turn we got spicy hotdogs and they were delicious...

OCTA Golf Tournament and Rancho was in great shape and the staff was excellent. I live in Costa Mesa and have been wanting to play this course for some time. Now that I have, wow, I will be back, what a fun course, really enjoyed it! Addition, I returned, 8/24/18- I enjoyed the playability, layout and challenge of the golf course. It is a beauty and an absolute joy to play. Requires good ball striking and an ability to read the greens that are very true! I would like to become a member at this golf course if I was to choose one. Thank you guys so much for your graciousness to me and my playing partners! Very much appreciated!

This is a cool place to practice chipping and putting. The range is mat only and WAY Over crowded. Sometimes the wait is 45 minutes and too many open slots where they charge to make an extra dollar from monthly paying members, really?? Needless to say, I canceled my membership after a few months.

The fairways need a lot of work.

This is very reasonably priced golf course. Its not the most scenic in OC, and the holes run right next to each other throughout the course. But its fun, and easy. The greens were surprisingly fast, and in good shape. Its hard to beat for the price. One strange thing, all the tee times seemed to scheduled for 15 minutes after they were made...many people were confused why their tee times were listed later then they made them. It wasnt a huge deal. The course did play a little slow...unfortunately.

Slow play it was backed up all day. Course isnt in great shape the water the sidewalks more then they do the grass.

The course is a little bit better from the last time I was there. The bunkers are so much better. Its just that the rounds are usually at least 5 hours.

I come here often - nicely lit at night, stays open late so you can put in a later day at work and still come by, or drop by after dinner. Lots of stalls - while crowded Ive never had issues finding a spot - even 2 next to each other when I needed it. Their range key also makes their reasonable prices even better.Ive never played the course, but the practice facility is excellent.

Good price for the driving range.

Very nice staff. Course was in good condition, greens were quick but held the approach shots bunkers were well maintained but of course one or two had foot prints from guys who are too important to rake. Pace of play was 3:45 and ambassadors were patrolling the course.

The people at the pro shop are VERY nice and try to be helpful.The practice range is usually PACKED. Expect a average wait time of about 20 min before getting a spot. There is a option to reserve a spot but that will cost extra. This place honers the players club so that may be worth while getting but the price for range balls are about average.

Suitable for Back 9 in the morning. Only $15, dont for get to sign up the players club.

Not very open for hiking during this time of the year. There is construction going on but gorgeous views.

Played November 23. Round was so slow it was almost unbearable. It took 5 and a half hours. There was a marshall driving around doing absolutely nothing to speed up play. On the 18th hole there were 4 four somes on the hole. Every par 3 had at last two four somes waiting. In addition to that the course was soaking wet after less than 1 inche of rain 2 days prior. Clearly the course has some drainage issues. I will look elsewhere for my next round of golf.

Fun course, but the pace of play is too long. Expect a 5 hour round.

July 2017Greens were very soft, ball literarily sunk into the dirt, worst was that no pitchforks seemed to be applied by members so quite the number of holes.I played with a rental set of clubs so experienced a terrible score. That said I believe the course itself was sufficiently challenging, doglegs and a few little hills.Playing Bermuda grass (I believe) was also new experience but Id have to say I prefer the Scandinavian grass and feel.

Ive played at least a hundred rounds on this course. Kind of a dog track but fun.

Course is in decent shape, the edges are rough low maintenance areas. Senior rate with coupon good deal. Pase of play close to five hours, waited almost every shot.

The course was wet but not too wet. The green were slow but that was due to rains the past 2 weeks. All in all it was a good experience. Not too busy for a Presidents day 2019.BTW the Irvine city council enacted a resolution to keep RSJ as a golf course and not allow it to be developed into housing.

Great job on turning the course from a plain dried dirt field back to an actual golf course. Still need lots of improvements but its a great WIP. PoP is long as always, tee boxes do need more grass, nice sand in bunkers, fairways are much greener, and the greens are always good. Keep it up for the 5th star...

Not a bad course If you are beginner to intermediate. Not too many hazards and place is well kept. Just be careful of incoming balls as other players on the course arent good players either.

The course is under new management and is making good effort to improve the condition of the course. All greens are now pretty fast and smooth. Most bunkers are fixed with soft sand. Tee boxes are also being repaired.

Friendly staff, great price but fairways very bumpy with lack of grass

Played golf here on a Tuesday morning, with a T-time at around 10:00am. I was a single walk-on, and got to play within 20 min of arriving at the course. The T-off was regulated by a starter who made sure that we all waited for the previous groups. The course was pretty well maintained, considering that the fairways have a lot of spots with ground under repair. All the T-boxes had ball washers, and trash bins. The rest-rooms were clean and functional. Basically, it was a great round of golf for a very cheap price.

We had a 6am tee time this past Monday May 20th. We got there at 5:30 and the starter DEE let us go out early. When we got to #3, he (DEE) drove up in a cart and apologized for not telling us that a tournament was starting on the back nine at 7am. he suggested we slow down so we didnt catch them too quickly.When we got to #9 he drove up again and told us that the tournament was delayed and that we could have breakfast (on their dime) or we could replay the front nine. We chose to replay the front nine but stopped for coffee first and when we tried to pay the clerk told us it was free and thanked us for our patience.When we got to #9 the second time we were met by the Ambassador, who offered to let us play the back nine if we wanted to. We decided to play and we were still done with 27 holes by 10:50am.My compliments to Dee and the staff. It was truly awesome to be shown the hospitality that we were given and we will definitely play here again and recommend this course to all of our golfing friends.

Driving range is nice and there are instructors avaiable. The membership is worth it. And the course is beautiful.

Retains 4 stars of they retain there grass, had past issues.

The layout was okay, but for the money there are definitely better options. Greens had been punched maybe 1.5 weeks ago so that was a factor.

It is very useful to practice for $40.

There is fun to be had there. Not much elevation change so its flat. The greens and fairways I believe could be in Better shape. Especially in Irvine.

We were the first group to go in the morning for 18 holes, teed of at 6:30am. By hole 13 there was a tournament that was a shotgun start and there were suddenly 8 golfers ahead of us. The golf course doubled booked us and we had to end early because that put us back at least another hour.It is rude to double book the course like that.

I have begging playing golf for over 30 yrs and this was the worse golf course condition I have ever seen! Waste of time and money!

Players club is a great deal. You can hit a large bucket of balls everyday for $39.95 a month. Plus free golf clinics and discounts on green fees.

Pace of play is ridiculously slow and they are particularly woman unfriendly with the shortest tees measuring over 5700 yds. There are maybe three holes (Not marked) with a forward art of tees.l

Not bad for the price. We Golf-zinged it - - $58 for my son and me. Group ahead of us was slow (marshal cruised right by without asking them to speed up.) We started at 3:00pm on Sunday and still got around in 4:30. I dont mind the goose-poop because I like seeing the ducks and geese. Would be nice if someone posted a sign that says No spitting sunflower seed shells on the greens. They make a ball take a nasty turn!

There are nicer golf courses but this is a good value and great wide open fairways makes it good for Golfers that tend to lose balls on harder courses

We had a tournament in august 2015 and were treated exceptionally well. all golfers loved the course and the service. booked our annual tournament for august 2016 at RSJ again. thanks to all employees

Greens are in good condition but the rest of the course is no bueno...

RSJ is a weird golf course. The fairways are burnt out. The greens, lets just say that a few of them should have a clowns mouth or a swinging log in front of the hole. I try it about once a year, and every time I leave asking why I keep thinking it will improve.

I just go here for the nicer golf range in the area on my way back home from work. Easy to get to.
