The truck issues have improved; just be careful and assume they dont see you. There are nice new restrooms all around, which are also used as homeless motels. The Slater Avenue parking lot is frequented by people who drive in and look into other peoples cars, so beware.
This review is specifically for the Revolution reenactment held at Huntington Beach Central Park on February 2020.This was the first time I went to one in Orange County. The costume were very accurate from what I saw. People were staying in character and the British did have their British dialect. The British and Revolutionists battled on the ground with their muskets (rifles) and it seemed so dignified. No real running, charging or anything. I thought is this really how they fought? Looked boring. But I really enjoyed the tents of items being sold like costumes, teas, and other items. I actually bought some teas. They smelled so good. One tent had a woman making some food item and we got to taste it. I asked a lot of questions and it was really fascinating. There was a talk with Dr. Franklin (Benjamin). That was wonderful and very interesting. The library sold historical books at the event.I must say I always wanted to go to one of these events in my area because I didn’t know they had these on the west coast.Recommended.
Huntington Beach Central Park is a mixed bag, honestly. My wife and I came here one morning, as Id always heard about this place, but Id never been before. We wanted to eat breakfast at the Park Bench Cafe, a small eatery at the edge of Central Park, which features outdoor dining with a relaxed vibe to it. They are only open for breakfast & lunch. The lot in front of this food place was full, so we parked on a residential street across Goldenwest from this parking lot. Theres a pedestrian signal light here with a crosswalk, but I was still nervous crossing this wide busy street. It didnt help that there was a mini memorial decorating this signal pole that we pushed, where someone had obviously died really close to.Once at the cafe, we only had to wait 5 minutes for a table to eat at. We showed up early that Saturday morning, around 9a.m. My wife & I really enjoyed our breakfasts here. Their omelettes and fried potatoes with onions and bell peppers were delicious and our server was friendly, as well. It was a great start to our park jaunt. We then began walking through Huntingtons Central Park on a trail. Nice scenery was everywhere, and we saw lots of mature trees, tons of birds, and a lake surrounded by reeds, before passing the Huntington Central Park Library. My wife & I saw well over 300 Canadian Geese on a monster-sized lawn munching away on the bright green grass. We also spotted a Red-Shouldered Hawk, way up high in a tree.In several semi-isolated places in the park, we came around turns in the footpath and noticed homeless people. Two men started eyeballing us in one of these instances, making us uncomfortable, so we headed away from this area. In another park location, we saw 2 tents, set up side by side. Ive always been leery of transients, since a large percentage of homeless are mentally ill, and you can never be sure what theyll do.This fairly large homeless presence in the park put a damper on our visit here. We cut short our walk and left Huntington Beach Central Park.
I discovered this park in 1978. There are lots of trees and presumably you can still bring food and picnic there. The park has lots of native willow trees along with the planted ones. There is a walking trail around the Eastern Park perimeter and the main Huntington Beach Library is located there also. There are year-round mallard ducks and many types of birds as well as squirrels. There is a cafe, The Park Bench Cafe, open from Wednesday through Sunday which serves great breakfast food. There are many outdoor tables available for dining. You are encouraged to bring your dogs and there is a doggie menu available for them. The Western side of the park has a Nature Center which is closed for the time being, but it has an extensive open lawn adjacent to it. Ive been enjoying these parks since 1978. Was at the Cafe just this last Sunday, even though I live 10 miles away now.
This park is really bumping right now. Even with the covid-19 pandemic. I was pleased to see our city people having a good time outside. We skated around the park also we brought a football to play catch and a frisbee to throw around. It was a good place to spend a couple hours outside with the kids. The park is very beautiful year around and although the lake is covered over in duckweed, it still looks really cool. I like to tell my youngest daughter that look at how flat that grass is well run out there. I never let her run out onto the duck week
Nice, quaint lake and park in the Orange County Hills. I see folks fishing, running, sunning out on the beach area, BBQing and just relaxing here on the weekend.
This is for the park where Shipley Center is. A lovely park with a nice path to jog or walk around. I gave it 3 stars because of the people walking dogs without a leash. They walk their dog as if it was their backyard. No respect for the park rules and people who follow the rules. I think there must be enforcement.
Bison (or buffalo) corral + 17 lakes = automatic 5 starsI grew up here and never knew of their existences until today.i. am. an. asian. tourist.sue me
Great paths and picnic areas. Watch out for the crazy squirrels.
Say Hi To The Hammockers Along The Trail They Are World Famous! Great Place For Family/Friends/Dogs. Quiet Beautiful And Clean, You Will Be Back
Nice park except too many creepy people always sitting in their cars. Why do you come to a public park and sit in your car? I guess it is a problem of California and all over the US. Lonely people culture + high rate of mental issues.
This park has it all! This is a great place to bring the family or come for some exercise. You will find the secret garden here, a playground on the far side, different fitness sections, many green fields, and a huge lake right in the middle. There are many great and free events in this park. To name a few: Revolutionary and Civil War reenactments, cherry blossom festival, and the family bands in the park. Lookup the library calendar for more info. Many restrooms scattered throughout this park. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
A very comfortable place to exercise, or just rest&relax. The landscape is beautiful, with several wild birds, and a few other wild animals such as raccoons, some skunks, and lots of friendly and always hungry squirrels zipping around.Ride a bike,or walk your dogs, theres playgrounds, and a fantastic library, also many fields for ball games of all kinds, plan for a full day at HB park! Always something to do!
The perfect place to walk to, do yoga or just to be sitting under the shadow of the big trees contemplating the beauty of mother nature!
Lovely park with plenty of space. I had previously heard about an overwhelming vagrant presence I did not find, so my reservations about this park were met with pleasant surprise and many friendly passerbys. I definitely will be coming back for a bike ride or scooter race!
Ive been visiting this park since I was a wee lad and have had a chance to explore every nook and cranny of central park. I can say its still a delight to visit. It has something for everyone -- a huge field for sports, multiple jungle gyms for kids, picnic spots, bbqs, a lakeside restaurant, a lake for fishing, a dock, benches to sit and gaze, ducks to feed duck food (not bread), a nature center, a senior center, a dog park, a massive disc golf course, an equestrian center (horse riding), a sports center and library across the street (Goldenwest side), and trails to explore. My all time favorite park.
Very nice park been going here since I was a kid and always will.
We love this park. There are so many birds to watch. We are going here to specifically look for the Pin-tailed Whydah, the Scaly-breasted Munia, and the Orange-cheeked Waxbill. There are so much shades, lots of trees, and so many different types of birds. Its also destination for family and special occasion photos. There are plenty of free, shaded parking.Be warned that there are homeless hanging out in the park, especially around the restrooms and bushy areas. Some has mental issues. I also saw two men walk around, peaking into peoples cars. I am not surprised if people come out to see their car had been break into.
My brand new 2018 Honda Accord Touring was broken into, in broad daylight and over $2,000 worth of items were stolen from my trunk. I run a computer software business and stopped at the dog park for 30 mins. They were so good they actually broke the inner cylinder and cost me over $700 in repairs alone. Never will I return! I tried filing it with the police and they said it was pointless.
Had my daughters birthday party there everything was good until all the homeless people started to come it made us all feel uncomfortable including my guess so we had to leave early
This place has probably the best fishing in Huntington Beach (at least for pond/lake fishing). We caught two tilapia and some catfish and sunfish. Very shady as well.
I love this park ! The perfect place to walk to, do yoga or just to be sitting under the shadow of the big trees contemplating the beauty of mother nature!
Pretty nice, lake seemed fairly pressured . Did manage a decent carp . Also saw a nice talipa landed.
Nice park to hike or take your dog and children/grandchildren I would recommend.
Beautiful place for a walk.
My son got a new bike and wanted to test it out...I think he road all off the park. Beautiful, quiet and relaxing.
