A hidden gem within Houston. Perfect for a hike or walk. This isnt a place for bicycles, motorized vehicles, strollers, or anything of the sort. Beautiful walking trails up and down the creek. Be sure to have bug spray handy. It seems parts of the trails are closed off for various reasons (Oct 2020), so the log cabin is also closed and there are no public restrooms. Still a fantastic place to check out with lots of sights, scenery, and nature.

Fun Place for single-digit age kids. It is located right in the neighborhood and gives a hiking experience. Perfect.

This is a beautiful little preserve hidden away in the Memorial area along Rummel Creek. My daughter and I went there on a school photography project and found plenty of great views and after spending almost an hour exploring and taking pics we realized we only made around approximately half the trail system. Definitely a great place to explore nature without ever leaving the city.

Amazing natural park in the middle of a suburban residential neighborhood. Very nice shaded 1.15 mile dirt path around the park offers opportunities to learn about the native vegetation and small animals. The cabin was closed that day and social distancing is encouraged.

Great little park. Beautiful little area packed with more bridges and pretty views than you could imagine. The area with the turtles is my favorite. Great activity for small kids, short little walking paths and its free!

Very nice park. I came with my significant other and walked the trails for about an hour. We saw plenty of wildlife and took pictures as well. Very good park for a nature oriented family or a couple of urban explores. Theres also no pets allowed and as of current, you cannot use the restroom on the property.

Great city walking trail. We take our kids here to let out steam. Never seems to be too many people. Theres a bull frog pond and a regular pond if your kids like turtles, fish and frogs. There are some snakes, but typically wont bother you, especially sticking to the trail.

Beautiful natural habitat. Trails through nature. If not sure on your feet, take walking stick. Lots of uneven ground...its nature. Watch the squirrels, birds, turtles, fish, etc. Step back into time, to see what things looked like before concrete.

Went on the monthly Owl Prowl”. Was not disappointed. For $10, got to see 4 rescued owls and learn a lot about the incredible predators.The presentation was inside an magnificently preserved log cabin from the early 20th century.One outside, our guide took us for a night walk though the pristine grounds. She played owl calls which attracted an inquisitive barn owl.Definitely an oasis on the west side of Houston.

This is a great place for a nice afternoon walk, or daytime hike with kids. Theres a small, well maintained trail system to explore the sanctuary, and even a cabin from the 1930s. Make sure to bring your mosquito spray, though, as there are quite a few of them and they like to bite with a vengeance!

My family inadvertently learned about this magical place and decided to visit for a hike. It is amazing. Wonderful rustic trails that spiderweb out from a 100 year old log house and wind their way through 18 acres of beautiful tree-tunneled pathways that criss-cross a picturesque creek. Take a break from your busy life and the constant ping of smart phone notifications and treat yourself and your loved ones to a nature walk in the heart of the city.

Beautiful nature trails tucked away off Memorial. The Sanctuary has a few different trails, a beautiful pond area and even a garden. We have come here for fun, for Scouts and school field trips. Our kids love exploring and looking for different animals or birds. The Sanctuary is open during daylight hours and is best accessed from the entrance on the west side of the church parking lot.

We loved our picnic lunch in the small park. It was beautiful amd clean. Highly recommend.

Nice place to go for a walk. At the moment (08/2020) the restrooms are closed and they have a notice at the door about not allowing dogs into the trail, even with a leash

I go here for a hike and bird watch. Prefer to go in the mornings.. would definitely spot beautiful colorful birds. Trails are mostly smooth and flat making it very easy and relaxing. Occasionally dare to step down and up till the creek, it adds up fun and adventure for the little kids who wanted to learn whats hike. Also a good option to enjoy nature in the midst of the city.

Wow, such a gem in our own backyard! For those that live birds, this is heaven! I went there with my 4 year old and the trails where a good level for smaller children but I did feel it was a place that is more geared to being quiet and calm so I did have to keep her voice down as not to scare the birds for the other viewers.

Another gem inside of Houston. Amazing that you can find a place like this that offers seclusion and peace.Still a little drone of traffic that surrounds the place, but still very nice.Get there early. Less folks around when youre walking the trails.

Very small, but awesome if you love to hike fairly easy trails! Very pretty to look at! Mosquito central in the evening; I recommend going during the fall lol.

Well kept, easy hiking/walking trails in this small park in the woods. The creekside trail is not secluded: you can see across the ravine into private homes and back yards. I assume the park has no control/rights over the creek, because many spots have litter (bags, bottles, etc.)...however if allowed, it would be great for the park/volunteers to clean up the creek area. Nice spot for bird watching and enjoying the woods, free parking, free to visit.

Nice little gem inside Houston. A lot of squirrels and birds. Nice photo opportunities and great for the family to get out of the house for a walk. Definitely recommend to stop by if you’re in the area I walked some of it and took me 40 min so I’d say it’s a 45-hour walk off you take your time

Great place for a casual nature walk and birdwatching. The park is small and the trails are very manageable. There is a public restroom available when the cabin is open and staffed.

Learning about owls was so much fun. We saw about 5 different ones, then went for walk through the trails and saw one. Very educational.

It is a beautiful escape from the hustle of the city nestled in such a busy area. Beautiful greenery and you can spot all sorts of wildlife from vibrant bluejays and cardinals, to squirrels and rabbits. In certain areas, you cant even hear cars from the streets, which makes it a perfect area to be alone with nature.

This is awesome in the heart of memorial. When you seem to be trapped in the city, this is a great escape to walk around I. Nature and just hear the birds. While it is only 18 acres it isn’t huge, but it is secluded and easy to get to. It is a great escape and a fun place for kids.

Lovely place to go hiking with your kids. Many easy trails and lots of fun things for kids to discover. Theres even a creek that runs through it. I think there are two different entrances so keep that in mind. We loved it!

Great hidden area in Houston cant believe I found the spot thought I was looking at a park but there is only two trails like this in Houston. There is three in to go inside so pick a good spot and you can enjoy the nature. I definitely will take a date and come here often just to walk the trails

Our first time and love this sanctuary. Definitely come back for a great view of this unique Nature venture Sanctuary.

The amount of effort spent in maintaining this sanctuary is amazing but unfortunately ever since Harvey and other large rains a lot of the paths became washed out. While new bridges and paths get updated pretty frequently, its just a bit hard to feel surrounded by nature when a lot of the viewpoints overlook plastic trash in the bayou. A lot of this is outside their control unfortunately as the trails they can maintain are quite lovely and quiet. There are lots of opportunities to view birds (robins, cardinals, woodpeckers, kinglets, blue jays all in one visit), and they organize events at the main cabins.

What an absolute treat in the heart of Houston! My partner and I went last minute and it the sun down made the trees and the sounds of the birds that much more beautiful! Wear comfy shoes and be sure to take your time there!

Pretty bridges, a pleasent animal sanctuary, the city surrounding this Sanctuary is disturbingly close. I can see and hear the road. The exquisite homes. I never got the feeling of wandering in the woods. The Nature Sanctuary was overburdened with families with chatty and small children who were never taught to stop and listen and observe.

Peaceful. Thats all you need right in the middle of the city.

This place is off the beaten path for sure, but it is well worth the drive. Beautiful nature spot with plenty of plants and animals around. Its pretty quiet as well. There are some wonderfully beautiful birds around the trails of you are quiet. Escape from your daily grind with a walk in mother nature right in the middle of it all.

Nice little nature park with a lot of walking trails. Calm and quiet. For parking, set the location to Houston Audubon Society if you are visiting here. You cant see the entrance very clearly but when you see the wooden board of Houston Audubon Society that is the place where you have to enter.Most of the areas around the park is clean and well-maintained. Average vehicle park may be for 10-12 vehicles. There is a restroom.

I love this place. Its a hidden gem in this urban environment. I visited this place for the first time after I came back from Denver. It kinda reminded me of Denver a bit since Houston is pretty much a strip mall city.Its a great place to hike and get away from the city if only for a moment. Theres a cabin with various activities for adults and kids from time to time.Hiking the trail doesnt take too long considering the size of the place but I had no problem looping back around for another lap.The only down side I would say is that the creek has trash scattered here and there that kinda breaks the aesthetics of the place. Also, the houses once you get to the creek but its better than nothing.I would definitely recommend this place for anyone to enjoy nature.

I am embarrassed to say that even though I have lived in Houston most of my life, I just found out about the Houston Audubon Society a few years ago. This organization has not only given me a new appreciation for our feathered friends, but has given me the opportunity to volunteer in one of their 18 centers and sanctuaries (High Island Spring Migration ROCKS!!). Come on people! Getting involved with Houston Audubon is the best way to let nature into your life in the middle of the big city.

Really nice small park located in a memorial-area neighborhood. But youd never know it once youre inside the park! Nicely wooded with a couple water crossings and boardwalks. Good spot for birding or a short hike. The bathrooms are surprisingly luxurious!

A nice place for a quick walk in the woods. Not a whole lot of excitement, but a pleasant, not too long stroll. There is a visitor center with activities sometimes on the weekends. The is parking on both sides of the park, the church side is most convenient.

I cant believe that I have lived here all my life and I only just discovered Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary a few weeks ago from a friend who just moved to Houston 6 months ago! Located near the outskirt of a quiet neighborhood along Memorial Drive, you wouldnt know this place existed unless you search for it. The entrance is a bit hidden but theres a decent amount of parking space inside the gravel driveway. If not, you can certainly just park on the street and walk in. Theres an old log cabin which you can learn the history about it and this nature sanctuary at the entrance to the hiking trail.Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary is definitely a true hidden gem of Houston. Although its not as big as a national park for true hiking but I dont have to drive that far to get here just to get away from the city noise and reconnect myself with nature. The sound of the birds, wind blowing the trees and rustling, waving back and forth, blocking the sunlight with greens everywhere, it really makes you feel like youre not in Houston, and yet you are. So this is definitely a great starter place for people who have never hiked before as the trail is easy and pretty short. Theres definitely enough bridge markers to make sure you dont really get lost.Theres also a zip line but every time I have gone, they always have it locked up. I need to find out who and how to get it unlocked so I can zip around. To everyone who lives around in this area, find yourself some time and check out Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary and be amazed by the nature thats surrounded by a suburbia neighborhood.
