I have so many memories as a kid in this park and its so awesome to see my kids enjoy it as much as I did. It has been taken care of really well, nice and clean. And of course our favorite part is the choo choo train.

Very cool, and unique park in the Heights. The bike trail runs right next to the park.Ice cream, and sorbet at Cloud 10 Creamery is right across the street.Heres a little history:For five consecutive days in October of 1996, a close-knit community in Houston, Texas, rolled up its collective sleeves and built a lasting legacy for its children.Families, neighbors, craftsmen, teachers, students, local businesses, and friends of Houston Heights joined together in a monumental effort to construct what is now The Heights Playground. They worked from early morning until late night. They sawed, drilled, hammered and painted. They served food, tended minor wounds, and provided child care. They gave their time, their skills, and their hearts, yet asked nothing in return.Donovan Park is the Cinderella story of a formerly underutilized park transformed into a unique fantasy play-space through the power of community involvement.Over a period of nine months, thousands of dedicated volunteers and supporters participated in the fundraising, organization, and building of a dream that became a reality.Today, it is a place that sparks young imaginations, encourages social interaction among cultures, and serves as an inspiration to future generations.Incorporating original ideas contributed by area school children, Donovan Park was designed by community-built architectural pioneers, Robert S. Leathers & Associates of Ithaca, New York. With its railroad theme and Victorian-era turrets, the playground reflects the historic character of its surroundings. It serves the neighborhood as both a distinctive architectural landmark and as a popular family gathering site where young hearts and imaginations can run free. It stands as a loving tribute to the children who inspired its construction and as a testament to the caring spirit of the Houston Heights community. We no longer take reservations for the use of this park. It is first-come, first-served. Due to limited volunteer trash pick up, we request parties of five or more to take their trash with them. For the safety of our children, barbecue pits, open flames, and dogs are not allowed.

Perfect park for my little ball of energy 2 year old. I think this park stays packed, very very popular and have always had a great time. They have 2 playgrounds one for bigger kids and one for little ones, a swing set and a huge wooden train. It has a high lock on the gate that keeps the kids in safe, a few benches and picnic tables and a neighborhood library box. Cant wait to see how they renovate it.

Small beautiful park with kids play area. All the equipments have wooded structure and its built like a castle. The park is clean and well-maintained.There are few seats around the park. Even thought its a weekend the park is not so crowded.Have a dedicated parking area (Side of the road). There are Portable toilets near the parking area.

Had a picnic up there with my aunt and cousins. Just watch where and how you park because they do have meter people who do drive around ticketing cars.

What a great little gem in thehe Heights! We were looking for things to do while spending an afternoon in the Heights and we found this park. My 4 year old loved it! The playgrounds here are fantastic, it was very clean, and despite how small the park is, there still feels like a lot for the kids to do. There are no public restrooms in the park, and there are a couple of picnic tables, but they are first come, first served. Very happy with my visit here, will be bringing my son back again!

Nice park and equipment. People that go there kinda ruin it. The kids only play with their siblings so if you only have one and hope your kids make friends, know that no matter how hard you try it probably wont happen. Also not toddler friendly, open drops over 6 so you have to constantly run around the structure to make sure they dont fall off instead of letting them play

This is the coolest playground park in the city. It is on a bike trail and has a huge green trail park in front of it. If you Ingress it has a goodly amount or portals in and around it.

Donovan park is one of the best parks in Houston. The wooden play structure in the form of a train is wonderful to sit or hide in or climb on for older kids. The other 2 play structures have activities which a 2 year old can use and others a 10 year old can still enjoy. Of course the cloud 10 ice cream shop across the street makes for convenient respite from the running around. On holidays youre sure to find a friend there!

Definitely the FAVORITE park of our sons in Houston! In such a wonderfully eclectic and vibrant part of Houston. The Heights is always the place to be and great for families. The beautiful wooden castles are pure fun and the park is always clean. The all around steel fence is very much appreciated. We love donating books our son has outgrown in the Free Little Library right inside. Our son loves to run all up and down the grassy hill also. A perfect place to burn off some energy. There is no bathroom, but right across the street there are a few places that have always been very welcoming to me and my son.

Lovely wooden park. The structures are really fun and promote a lot of pretend play. When it rains it gets real muddy. Could be a pro or con depending on how you feel about kids getting down and dirty. My main gripe with Donovan is the lack of shade. Dang does it get hot and theres really only one very very small covered area. Great park for great weather days.

This railroad themed park opened in 1983 and was designed by the SWA architure firm. It features multiple large wooden playground sets that are best for children that have already begun to walk on their own. Additional, there are a few picnic tables, some of which are shaded by trees, and a Borrow a Book station with childrens books inside. Despite the trees around the park, most parents recommended to stay away on hot days without any overcast, as the wood can get very hot. Lastly, the park has multiple ice cream/ gelato shops and restaurants within walking distance.
