This neighborhood institution preserves and restores housing in one of Houstons oldest remaining traditionally black neighborhoods while simultaneously providing space for community events and building resources for community organizing
Shows the city working on projects to better the community.
The Project Row Houses In The Third Ward shows the culture of African Americans living in Houston. Places like the Project Row Houses that inform people about the current problems in the neighborhoods are a great way to find out the culture of an area because of the problems that they are facing. Historically, Project Row Houses has been a catalyst for transforming neighborhoods in the Third Ward to become a safer and better place to live through the art and celebration of African American culture and history. The characteristics that make up the Project Row Houses and the African American community are the community coming together to help each other, and teaching both themselves and others about their culture and what they stand for. This culture is unique compared to others because of the sense of belonging and knowing that your community and neighborhood have your back. The Project Row Houses also help the African Americans find their cultural identity so that they know that they are a part of something bigger than themselves.
It was excellent. The Project Row House highlights the critical yet often overlooked plight of those that bring forth life. Its a community gem.
Good, free, art installations. The new installation opening festivals make it worth a visit.
What a fantastic concept and community treasure. The powerful art exhibit in each house was amazing.
Came on Sunday, waited until 12:20 when the website said it would open at noon. Buildings were closed, nobody answered the phone. Waited 10 more minutes because we had been really excited. Still nobody. Anybody know why?
Loved the place, very educational on the birth rate during delivery or getting the health needed for Africa America women, black women are less to get the health needed during pregnant or care than other race of women.
I had no idea this art installation even existed until a few months ago. I decided to take my kids (even though they are a little young to understand the exhibits) I thought exposing them to some local art would be great and I am so glad we went! Creative & though-provoking. I was really impressed. The only downside is when we went (on a Thursday afternoon) a lot of the houses were closed or locked not sure why. We still enjoyed this local gem in 3rd Ward!
Amazing people and great history lessons-enjoyed the energy
Loved visiting Project Row Houses! I went with a class from UH and love the work they are doing within the community. Rick Lowe is an awesome artist and great guy! All the staff were friendly and welcoming. They have rotations of events and exhibits up and the community of Third Ward is full of rich history!
A look at Black History. Very interesting Row Houses from another era
Celebrating the health and wellness of women and children was informative.
Beautiful historic little homes housing incredible local artists.
Not sure how u could ever say a bad thing abt PRH. supporting and expressing the talent and work of our great city (and those outside of htx). try to never miss a round opening..the artist talks are well worth it.
A very nice, free, cultural art exhibit.
I LOVE IT AND THE CULTURE!
A gem of a place in Houstons Third Ward. The art there is informative and some are thought provoking. However the displays are Awesome. I enjoyed my visit there. Its also nice to see that these homes still stand with so many historic homes being bulldozed for low quality overpriced lofts and townhomes. This is a must visit for the artist and the cultural historian alike. I had the pleasure of visiting on a gorgeous day. And I will be back.
Such a great learning experience! So much rich culture.
It is incredible how art and community are nested together, and I love seeing the different showings of art, community events, and engagement that happens here.
My sis lives here. Nice apts
Doing great work in the community! Showcasing artists from across the globe.
The people there are amazing. They not only teach you about current community problems, but they share with you their passion to do something about it. You definitely will not regret going. And if you are guided by Anderson, or anyone else for that matter, take the moment to know something about them. Because thats what he taught me: happiness comes from getting to know the people around you, if its at least their favorite color, so youll share their friendship, and their memory will not be forgotten.
I never knew this was right in my hometown backyard. Wow
Shared a Black Artist experience with my daughter Jamie and her faculty from U of H. I really enjoyed it. Very different and enlighting
Loved how accessible all the information was. Contributors and staff was very professional and helpful.
Great mission and staff. Exemplar for all
Clever use of these old phone booths. Very informative and fun to use.
A worthy charity!
A moving experience, I was surprised upon how I felt. .
Beautiful space where community came together to create something organic and historical. We love to visit and soak up the good vibes and culture.
PRH is doing important, necessary work to preserve history and showcase art in Third Ward. Such a dynamic space that offers so many resources should be given more recognition.
Great historical day; lots of things unknown
Nice staff that happily helped with the community distribution of concert tickets that were held at the Emancipation Park nearby.
Contemporary art linked to the history of the emancipation era simply by the fact that the art is located in the row houses. Much of the art asks the viewer to make their own connection. If you havent made the connection for yourself, Project Row Houses is a must visit.
This is one of my favorite places to be!
Fantastic project, really powerful art installations, fun and edifying community events
The art, the staff, the community. How lucky is Houston to be able to have Project Row Houses. You will not be disappointed.
Its a positive project I have some con
I 3rd ward house was awesome! The artist Marc Furi was there to greet us!
Check out TSU students this weekend!
Very interesting place. Lots of art by some amazing local artists, a must see while in houston
When I was in Americorps I had the pleasure of touring Project Row Houses. I admire the mission and their hard work. They are beautiful pieces of art as well as architecture.
Great Place .Drop by and visit .
Great Experience
I dont understand the rave 4.8 review for this place.I went there with my family, and#1. It states that there would be 22 homes to look into. There were only 6 homes that were open, the rest were either closed because artist rent them out, and the other ones have actual occupants living in there so that was disappointing.#2 I feel that the information presented wasnt clear only in two houses: the one house about community gentrification, and the one showing some staple areas in third ward like fast food restaurants, the other houses had scattered substance.I personally think they could do WAY better, and open all 22 houses on one street instead of 5 on Elgin, and the rest at emancipation park, etc., and have artist display in all the homes. Not worth the visit.
An important asset to the city and a great place to enjoy and learn.
I love THIRD WARD ! This preservational event/effort and this neighborhood are both monacres to never be forgotten !
Great art, great services to the community, great to be in service with the community!
It was ok I guess. I didnt understand all the hype because it was really lame. I guess im missing the big picture.

Project Row Houses is a hidden gem in third ward with many artistic offerings there are plenty of niche events and residential artist that walk through their doors every year.
A great example of reinvesting in undeserved communities to encourage opportunity and growth.
