Super great spot for an early morning walk through the woods. The pine trees are gorgeous. The eucalyptus trees are pretty to look at and pleasant to smell while walking through the woods. Recommend wearing shoes when it’s raining. Limited parking. Great for picnicking in the immediate area of the parking lot.
Disk golf at its finest.....but the trees are better!
One of the beautiful places to home and enjoy Hawaiis natural wonders here on Oahu. The views of Manoa Valley on one end, the entrance to the place you can oversee Diamond Head and Waikiki. Make sure you have your belongs with you at all times, there are posted signs that state that there have been break ins when you park your vehicle in the lot area. Very quiet and today was a bit chilly but so refreshing.
Great park for accessing the trails that run along surrounding ridges. The Waahila Ridge trail can be hiked right up to Mount Olympus for an incredible view of the Eastern side of Oahu. The two times that Ive been on the trail saw very little traffic, only came across a handful of people which makes for a relaxing and quiet hike. There is a bus stop right out front of the park entrance that makes getting back and forth quite easy if you time it right.Definitely my most memorable moment on Oahu, cant wait to return.
Nice path built around summit of first hill, but then it goes straight down with no footing. We turned back after less than 30 minutes...
This place is really cool, driving up to it you wouldn’t expect to just go through a residential neighborhood and one turn ur in the forest. Great for bikers and hikers. Can take your bikes right to the top and enjoy a downhill course. People play frisbee golf here... however I did not see any actually “baskets” holes. Something for everyone on this hike, or just chill out at the park. Thanks Blaze for the tour!
Very well maintained my only gripe is.the limited parking
Great Hike with a beautiful view! I would say its a moderate rated hike. not too easy not to hard
The Waahila ridge trail is one of my favorite hikes on the island. Make sure to go when the clouds are high and the weather is good. The views from the ridge are astounding. The trail is not extremely difficult but please bring water, proper footwear, and some snacks.Dont end up like the dummy who gets stuck on the ridge in a storm and is wearing slippers and doesnt have any water or food.
Beautiful hike! Some challenging spots. Great view and best to do when there is dry weather.
It’s a great place to start your hike or just to hang out or do a picnic between those beautiful Cook Pines.I like to take the state trail up to Waahila Ridge all the way to Mt Olympus for the full experience and great views when weather is cooperating.
Nice view of manoa valley and you can drive all the way up to the ridge! Biking trails up here too.
My favorite picture was taken here. Not the easiest hike, but it was the one I enjoyed the most.
Enter here to hike to Mt Olympus. From parking lot to the top is approx 3 miles in. Take gloves and shoes with good grip or spikes. Great views when its clear.
I do lived there ? In waahila top of a mouthteitin stay in lived in a house stay in ?..
Its a hidden gem and a great place to get away from the hustle of Honolulu. Also a great hike if your up to it.
Nice, free hiking space on top of an amazing hill with the beautiful view of Waikiki! Disc Golf every Friday from 3-7pm!
The park is perfect for picnics being covered in a nice treeline. There are tables and bathrooms. At first, the ridge is nothing but a stroll, after that you have to start climbing a few things. Its all quite easy until you reach the signs, after that you reach areas where you need ropes to get up and when its rainy the whole thing is a mud side waiting for you to slip and die. Great place with many levels for different people.
Beautiful views and well worth going. I’d agree this is an easy to moderate hike but only if you are physically fit and you don’t have small children. There’s a bit of rock scrambling that made it impossible for me with a baby carrier.
Nice recreation park and fresh air to get away to from the craziness of the city.
Aloha Such a beautiful easy/short hiking at Waahila Ridge Trail this Morning.Very close to Wikiki and the view was nice from the trails. ( we did some smaller trails too on sides )Today was a cloudy day, but didnt rain, so we made it easily! The pine trees are huge, and lots of shade as well, great experience!( this park has parking and bathroom, plus picnic tables )Were highly recommending anyone who loves Nature, even kids can do it!Mahalo,Pearl and Peter
A great place, and the view is wonderful
Great spot. Disc golf on fridays at 3pm
Beautiful entrance to the Ridge hike that can connect to the Olympus hike and then connect to crater. If you are doing this hike to olympus, at average speed with stopping for some pictures its about 3 hours one way. If just ridge, its about hour and 45 min one way.The waahila is easy hike but Olympus does have steep parts that i would be very careful if it has rained. They have ropes to help like the 3 points hike.
If its wet, expect mud. Lots of mud. The first 1.5-2 miles are runnable, after that the trail to Mt Olympus is not maintained. Expect overgrowth and washed out muddy trails, not runnable it its wet. Ropes have been left in the tricky parts.
One of the best hikes on island. Lots of rocky scramble with views overlooking Honolulu. Hard to get to but well worth it. The parks hiking trail connects to the mount olympus trail as well. Good clean facilities. With a mountain bike trail to boot, limited parking.
Had to look for lost hikers. Dum dums shouldnt start hiking at 5pm!!! Other than that, beautiful view. 5 stars!!!
Its a beautiful place to have a family picnic or be by yourself to clear your mind and take your every day stress away from city life. This place is high in the mountains and its very cool with lots of pine trees and has restroom to use. Very few people goes up there because the ride is hard to drive uphill for about 15 to 20 minutes at the same time you can see the whole entire Puchbowl Crater and all so beautiful Honolulu area.
This hiking trail is perfect! With all the nice view from the top, and the trail path is really exciting and challenging. Its gonna be tough for beginners, and also for me its not advisable for kids and elders.
Amazing views. Amazing park. Fantastic hike. Has parking too, but can easily have uber drop off and pick up.
Very beautiful
Great views and peaceful spot in cool green space.
Nice hiking spot! In the spring I saw many folks here pickings berries. I later found out they were strawberry guava. A few covered tables for picnics. There isnt much here in the way of amenities. The trail at the end of the parking lot is quite an incline (great workout) though it can be quite muddy.
Beautiful view
One of my favorite parks in the mountain. I come here just to relax and bbq a meal.
While there are some beautiful views, the hike is NOT easy. In fact, we found it challenging at many times due to the vertical climb or drop over rocks and/or roots. Being a ridge trail, often the trail is very narrow with steep slopes down on either side. I dont recommend bringing children under age 5. It took fives of us 65 min to walk 1.1 miles per Strava which was less than half way to Mt Olympus. People seem to post highlight photos but there are MANY roots to walk around. The roots also create steps and become hand rails. Closed toed walking/hiking shoes recommended. Also beware of where you walk as I didnt see pet owners using bags to pick up their waste. We were really glad we checked out the trail as it was interesting and about 80% of it was shaded with a breeze. Bring water. We found the walk back, which was mostly downhill, was faster.
Great hiking trail and a nice park!
Way off the beaten path. A nice hike trail and good views along the way.
Nice park for a walk in the woods! Nice pine trees. Two large covered pavilions, well kept bathroom facilities, good parking, plenty of trash receptacles so keep the park clean! Nice hiking trails and photo opportunities!
What can I say amazing views
So, the drive up to the park is a bit freaky if you arent from the area (Wisconsinite here!) But when you arrive you will be greeted with glorious trees, bathrooms, tables, kind employees, and a hike to remember!! Its not easy so please PLEASE wear proper shoes. Also be prepared as it can rain anytime and the path is slippery and can be steep. Worth it for the view, the exercise, and the peace.
Peaceful well groomed trails through a wonderful park with washrooms and covered picnic tables. Birds eye view of Manoa valley and the ocean (Waikiki) minutes from busy city life is this sanctuary.
Im a cyclist and this is a grueling hill climb ride. Take all the hills on the right starting with Kaminaka.
One of my favorite spots on the island, Waahila has a great hiking trail as well as picnic areas for a quick lunch. Some of the best views of Honolulu can be seen from here. The only downside to this park is the limited parking; however, that helps with keeping the park from overcrowding.
This park with hiking trail is not well known on Oahu. Which is actually quite amazing because it was one of the more enjoyable hikes that Ive been on.I do have to say that while the view is decent, the attraction for me was in the actual hike experience. There are rocks to climb (none where you could potentially fall into an abyss) and varying challenges. Id rate this as a pretty intensive hike so if youre not in decent shape you shouldnt attempt it.There is a restroom with doors on the stalls, but they dont lock... Which drives me nuts because I was desperate to use the restroom and I was so paranoid that someone was going to come in and open the stall door. Also, no paper towels or soap dispenser. I do have to say that the restroom was clean. There is a covered pavilion near the parking lot and when we returned from our hike a group of people were having a gathering. All in all, Id day this hike is well worth exploring. Much of it is shady. My son hiked this trail previously with his boy scout troop and he said it started pouring rain while they were on their hike. It led to dangerous conditions because the water was cascading down the rocks that you have to climb. My advice is to not attempt this hike if it is raining. He is much more of a risk taker than I am and if he was scared Id think twice.
Its a beautiful place...
Lovely foliage and trails!
Beautiful sites up there!!
Terrible, dont come here especially if you are a tourist looking for DH MTB.... JUST AWFUL. STAY AWAY. Locals welcome.
Waahila Ridge State Recreation Area is a small Forrest area here on Oahu. It is very clean, maintained, and does have a public restroom.
Great discing here! If you dont know what that is, come up on Fridays and well be the ones throwing discs around and carrying catch baskets! Awesome trails here too.
Great hike. For the adventurous keep going past the end of trail signs, before it turns down into Manoa. Great views over the Koolaus if you go far enough.
Beautiful hike. Medium experience level with great views all the way up so go as far as you can. Free parking and not too busy.
Came here to take family pictures
You can see the forest through the trees!
Beautiful tress, lots of wildlife and amazing facilities. The trails are well kept. Thank You!!
Nice and cool, good views.
Good area for hiking the trail or having a picnic. There is a good amount of parking.
Pine trees and spectacular views
This is a hard hike 5 1/2 hrs but beautiful if you catch it with the right weather the view is phenomenal you can see both sides of the island but only if the weather is right if its rainy its dangerous
Very pretty state park in the hills above Waikiki. Great view back down to Diamond Head. Hiking trail at the north end of the park follows beautiful narrow ridge between Manoa and Palolo valleys. Can be slippery and scary when muddy.
So peaceful and beautiful up here and a short bus ride from Waikiki town
Great outdoors spot for family hikes, timber tree lines in park .
Our Bikers For Christ (BFC) Ministry rode up to the Waahila Park this past Saturday (4-16-17)...The roads on the way up to the park were in bad conditions, especially while riding our motorcycles! But the Park had a lot of beautiful views with a lot of tall pine trees surrounding the areas, and bamboo forest too...The park was a bit busy that day with nature seekers, pinic goers (with picnic tables with benches), hikers, mountain bikers, photographers, and a wedding party too...If you live in town, this park would be a great place for you to come and relax at, and just to get away from all the hustle and bustle of your busy work days! The view of the ride back down the mountain is pretty cool too...Enjoy!
Its fun you get to see the whole view of Waikiki
This is a really nice hike with some great peek-a-boo views along the way. There are some steep sections that require a bit of climbing.
Amazing hike with loads of beautiful sites higher up
Nice views of Honolulu.
The trailhead for Waahila Ridge Trail starts here and ascends along the ridge for 4.6k (2.9 miles) and a cumulative vertical gain of ~420m (1400 feet) up to the top. Slippery when wet. On a good day, trail runners could do it in under an hour each way. Hikers should plan on 1.5–2.5 hours each way. There are several scenic viewpoints that would be perfect for a picnic. From the peak, which is often shrouded in mist, unmaintained trails lead along the highest ridgeline, but only the very well prepared should venture onwards in either direction.
Beautiful spot filled with Norfolk pines. Very unusual for Hawaii
Awesome hike, almost made it to MT Olympus
Quick hike beautiful view
Different view of Waikiki. An ok hike. Not a good place to mountain bike.
Hike was great for me, but I went by a chick who broke her ankle, shed probably only give it 1 star.
I love this place because it is very beautiful.
Peacful. nice walk from beach. steep climb to park
Good spot to take a well trained dog.
Excellent spot for pictures. Minimal walking involved.
Nice place to cool down. Close to the city.
Amazing hike. Has a restroom, parking covered picnic tables and epic views.
Was so beautiful
Not popular at all, at least when we went. Great spot to get away from the business for a bit, with great views.
It was absolutely beautiful, of course! Parking can be tricky
Fun for all ages
Didnt know I was in there
Great hiking, lots of mosquitoes.
Very lovely place
Get lost in the woods.
Beautiful
Beautiful!
Cool and quiet
