This place was fine. I am unsure what I envisioned it to be but my child enjoyed herself. It does need a new makeover as you can see that its been there for a long time.Staff were all very nice/friendly. They were constantly cleaning toys after use which was nice to see. They asked for every customer to wash hands before entering the center. Id go back again but wish the prices were a little less for what is offered.
Great place to bring your kids ! Clean facilities and adequate Covid measures are in place. Its nice to have some sense of normalcy.
My 5 year old daughter attended 10 of the week long summer camps offered this past summer. She absolutely loved her experiences there. She came home with her interest piqued on a variety of subjects including the Amazon Rain Forest, the 5 zones of the ocean, the inner workings of the human body, various foreign countries, dinosaurs, and conducting investigations. She had the opportunity to cook, make crafts, and practice her Jedi moves. The staff went to great lengths to keep her safe with numerous COVID protective measures. She looked forward to going every day and she just loved her teacher Miss Margo. I cant say enough about how wonderful the Childrens Discovery Center Discovery Camps are.
My almost 3 year old son had the time of his life here. I think the ticket price is very reasonable if you are local or military. There is so much to see and the staff is constantly cleaning.
My son(4) loves Discovery Center, he has a blast each time we go. As parents we love it because it is educational fun.
This is the best childrens museum in the entire United States! The entrance price is great, as well as the way the center is organized. Downstairs is dedicated to gigantic body functions, community service jobs, restaurant chef, police, dentist, baseball hitting practice, race cars, and then a whole room dedicated to reading with an actual library with about 500 books, a gigantic reading chair, a real storyteller/reader. Then the next two floors are dedicated to the other Polynesian countries with dress up clothes, play food, games, books, culture activities as well as an airline flight simulator that really works, and every area has full costume dress up for what ever the activity happens to be, such as a pilot, airline hostess, etc. If I lived here full time, Id have a membership. Its fantastic!. Oh, and the cafe has the most reasonable prices Ive ever encountered.
Disclaimer: I havent been to this place in many years. My children were a lot smaller and the exhibits have changed and with corona virus, it makes it for a challenging visit.Their parking lot is the kakaako park parking lot. They have a parking lot to the side of their building, but for whatever reason its closed off.If you have children under the age of 10 this place is awesome. There are many things to look at, touch, feel, experience.Because of coronavirus, the staff work very dilligently to keep everything sanitized and wiped off. There are hand sanitizer stations everywhere throughout the facility. They also have everyone wearing masks and temperature check done, so if youre worried about coronavirus, they seem to be doing their very best to keep everything sanitized.Though there were some exhibits that were closed, which was disappointing, but what can you do, just enjoy what they do have.Even though it seems like a place better for younger children, slightly older still have fun, but its not the same as it was when they were small.Overall a great experience.
My kids, age 4 and 1 loved it but I was not impressed. Admission was expensive, membership is a lot for a family of 4, about $300. Seemed a bit dirty and old. Staff wasnt overly friendly. Wish the outdoor space was open for more than an hour. I was hoping this would be a good indoor activity for hot summer days but too expensive to more than just as a special occasion. I wont be rushing back.
My kids enjoy every visit we have at this place...very informative for the kids.
Wonderful place, my son and I spent most of the day here exploring! There is plenty to learn and do. From the mini town to play in. You can be a police officer, fireman, bus driver, banker, and much much more! There is a craft room, music area, play place and movie theater where you can dress up and act out your own movie! In the upper levels you an learn about other cultures and on the main level a rainforest area to learn and llay too (prepare to get wet though!). Their precipitation station is pretty darn cool and my son and I both enjoyed sending boats and toys floating down the river! They do ask that parents stay off their phones as much as possible and play with the kiddos. Strollers are permitted but you cant actually take them through so just leave them in the car. Please note there is an abundance of homeless folks in the area around the childrens center however they leave folks alone. Dont let it deter you!We cant wait to visit again soon!
So much to do, lots to learn. So much education for kids even though they think its just a playhouse. Definitely plan to be here all day. Pack your lunch...they have a small cafe but not much variety. If you can donate... its truly a great place where kids have fun as well as learn.
Recently renovated. Wonderful place for kids. Closes early.
If you have a toddler this is an amazing activity for them. We spent a good 2.5 hours checking out all the different sets they have. We had to go back a second time as our toddler begged everyday to go back on our 3 week trip to Honolulu. P.s. the ac is full blast here so bring a hoodie! A++++
This place was one of the best things to do with my toddler. He absolutely loved it as did we. So much to see and do. Super friendly staff. Super clean environment. We only stayed about 2 hours but he could have played there all day. There is a cafe there to get food which is nice but they only accepted cash. Cant think of anyway this place can be improved exact cards accepted in the cafeIf you like my review, please follow me and give me a like!
Excellent Tour Guide Kyra gave our pre k students very detailed tour and instructions. Staff very courtesy and well organized. Great visit to Hawaii Discovery center. Our students had lots of fun.
Didnt know about this place till I was searching on Google, on what to do around the area with a toddler. This place is awesome, and apparently this gem has been here for years. Great place for children, and lots to do. The family can easily stay for 2.5 to 3hours. I wouldve gave a 5 stars however... just park your vehicles at the Kakaako Park, parking.
This place is really great. It is huge, kept clean, well managed, has fun and instructional activities, and my daughter loved every minute and didnt want to leave (even after 4 hours). If you have small kids and live in Honolulu I think it is totally worth going and getting a membership.
Just the right amount of exhibits for our 4yr old. Very creative exhibits, most were different than another science museum we went to recently. Rainforest / water cycle exhibit was my favorite.
Wow, wow, this place is -amazing-!!! Has so many exhibits that my 21 month old and I spent 3 hours at this place. Love it and would definitely go back if had a chance.
Great place for toddlers to learn while having fun! so many activities that will keep your child busy for hours. The staff is friendly and accommodating.
The kids enjoyed discovering each activity, which made me happy seeing them go from one thing to another.
Can spend hours here for $10 a head... Lots to do... I let the kids have 10-20 min. on each exhibit and over a dozen exhibits... Kids didnt want to leave.
This place has been here for many years and I feel obligated to bring all of the younger generation here in order for them to experience the joy of learning that I have. There are so many interactive portions such as different cultures, different jobs, the human body, and things that help to develop the mind. The staff is amazing, they are great with kids and obviously love their job. I did not see one staff member that looked like they hated their job.
If you want to see the smile on your childs face as they explore this place youre in luck! Children will be exposed to the endless of possible careers. Youll also find a little cafe for your little snacks to help energize your keiki as well as some coffee to help keep your energy up.
Spent well over 3 hours playing, so there is tons to do, even with one floor under construction. The exhibits seem to be a bit outdated, but my 3 year old still loved them. We used the restrooms a couple times and every time they were super dirty. This was the worst part for sure. Staff were friendly and helpful. I appreciate the areas only for younger kids (5 and under) and (3 and under)! Great rainy day activity. Super hot inside though, there was no AC.
This is a must for families with young children. There are so many different activities and things to look at. My kids 1 and 5 enjoyed role playing in the airplane as the pilot and flight attendant. We also enjoyed sitting in an oversize chair while reading a book in the fairytale library. My kids enjoyed picking pineapples and dressing up as Nemo while watching themselves on a TV screen. There is a fire station, police station, post office, auto shop, grocery store, bank, bus and too many more to list. We felt rushed in the few hours they were open. There is so much to do that I wish they didnt closer until later in the day. I rate it a 5 because I believe it is totally worth taking the kids to play and learn while having a blast. If we were ever to go back to Oahu we would definitly go back to the Childrens Discovery Center
A gem of Honolulu! This is a must go-to spot if you have kids. The daily and yearly cost to access is very affordable and theres plenty of free parking. Inside is climate controlled and youll find very friendly staff and lots of activities for kids to do as well as spaces for exploration.
This is a great place for children...preschoolers to elementary. Everything is hands-on. No matter what style of learner a child is, their interest is captured, i.e. auditory, oral, kinesthetic, visual. It does not matter if a child has challenges or is advanced, this is the place to bring your child(ren). As for big kids, they have things for us to do, too. My favorite place is the Story Room...the big over-stuffed chair and wall to wall books!! Im sure you can find your favorite!! And lets not forget the fireplace. All that makes for a cozy place to be!! I failed to mention, there is a rocking chair, too.
We took our medically fragile son here for a spring break outing. He loved it. Its a place where education meet fun.
Great experience for my son, he had a blast here!
This place is dope for kids. I have a 2.5 year old and a 15 month old and they both had a bunch of fun and there were older kids there too having a blast. Super interactive and there are three levels of fun and set ups of all kinds and hits every senses. Recommend. Its a great way to spend a hot or rainy afternoon. Nap time sure to follow. Only beef is there is no food or drink allowed so make sure and feed your kids before you go. Oh and there is only one bathroom and its located on the lower level. Thats not convenient.
My oldest daughter just adores this place. We’ve been to a couple museums in the Children’s group and this is by far the beat and biggest one we’ve been too. We have spent hours and hours there and although Mommy was tired, my girl loved it. The even have a few spaces for my 10 month old as well and now that’s she’s mobile, it’s perfect !
Awesome place for me and my nephew to visit. I think they should incorporate some hand sanitizer at adult level height to reach though. My hands were pretty gross after playing with all the fun tinker things
Great for kids. Staff is nice. It can get kind of crowded and I wish the hours were longer.
Great place for kids. The 3rd floor was under construction, but the available exhibits were entertaining. Theyre only open for 4 hours on weekdays, but it wasnt busy. We were able to get time with almost all of the exhibits alone. Kamaaina admission is $10 for anyone over 1 year old. There are a lot of homeless dotting the perimeter of the park, but they didnt seem to bother while we walked to the center.
The Center was very educational, real, well-planned and interactive! My daughter loves the experience and still talking about her dressing up to pick pineapples. In each section, there is dress-up clothes included to make the experience more authentic, I really loved. I would definitely recommend this for any parent with young children.
Kids love it. Loads of great things to experience and learn.
Such an amazing place for kids. Wonderful
The kids could have stayed for hours!! We were sad they closed at 1pm on a weekday. Definitely wished there was a similar center back home. We would be frequent flyers for sure. Great place to be whether or not youre trying to spend a day indoors on this island.
This unique park for tots to school aged children is united around natural themes of water, exploration and discovery. Theres really nothing to do except walk around. I understand the reason behind the park but I find it creepy to explain to my kids.
This was the first time my husband and I have been here. We took our 2 year old granddaughter who had an absolutely great time. There were so many areas for her to explore and a ton of pretend play from doctors office, police station, firestation, Banks, stores (where they can take a shopping cart, pick the items from shelves and every check out their own items at the register); another area has a very realistic Hawaiian Air plane to sit in or play pilot or flight attendant. So much to do in such a short time. Their hours are 10am -3pm. We barely made it out the door at closing time before our granddaughter was already asking to come back again!!
Fun, educational and interactive place to bring kids of all ages! My son had a blast and loved the variety of exhibits offered! He didnt get to go through all of them because they close soooo early But they do offer Military discounts which is a plus! Some of the exhibits really need to be thoroughly sanitized PLEASE and thank you! Overall we really enjoyed it and would love to return!
First time going to the Center, no words to express how impressed I was by it. It brings family together on various levels-its priceless.
I had a great time there is so many things to do and learn
Superb place for children of all ages to learn through play with their family, and experience the wonders of the world through the many exhibits. From learning about the human body to exploring different cultures, this place is fun and beneficial for kids, and allows them to get hands on with their learning.
Nice staff, well thought out environment and very engaging for kids. My 2 year old gets pretty stoked when we visit. We liked it so much the first time we went that we ended up buying a pass for the year.
Love bringing the kids here. Tons for them to do where you can easily spend a couple of hours. Only true negative is the surrounding area with the homelessness. However they have no bothered us when we have gone to the Center.
I really appreciate this place, bring back a lot of childhood memories! Good learning tool for ages 2 1/2 on up !
My 20 month old granddaughter loves this place. We stayed about 2 hours. She could easily have stayed another 2. This place is so well thought out and age appropriate. My 4 year old grandson loves it too. With the kamaaina rate and senior discount, I only pay $7 to come. My grandchildren have an annual pass, courtesy of the other grandparents. Highly recommend the Discovery Center!
Our little guy had lots of fun exploring today at the Discovery Museum. Lots of things to do with other little ones for socialization and learning.
Went here for my sons kindergarten field trip with his class. The employees were super nice and attentive to the kids and everyone had a blast. I definitely want to take my son back to explore the place more one day.
The kids love it. They get to pretend at different occupations, learn some science facts, and explore. Parking is usually pretty good.
A bit pricey but still a favourite even as the kids are getting older.
Its an amazing place to bring your little ones. Plenty of interactive displays for kids to play with. I only wished they had longer weekday hours during the summer.
Great huge space for your kids to run around and explore. Has two separate areas for infants and toddlers. A kids restaurant that serves pizza and spam musubi (cash only though). For some reason, the homeless camps tend to gravitate towards the exterior of the place, but they have never bothered us. Been going here almost monthly for three years, and no issue.
The kids love this place. Great for your family.
It was huge (2.5 stories worth of exhibits) and tons of fun for my 1 and almost 3 year olds! Tons of stuff for older kids too, plan on spending a couple hours and still not seeing everything! Parking in the back of the building fills up quick on rainy days.
Very informative child friendly but my ONLY draw back is that you cant push your baby stroller around and I think they should inform you of that.
Its a fun area for kids to play inside away from the summer heart. It does feel a bit dirty and germy, but definitely a fun place to interact with your kids
My 2 year old absolutely loved it here. The staff was great and the facilities were well managed
Unfortunately we never made our visit. Just as we got out of the car, we found a vile of propo flo 28, anesthetic for animals behind a police car.. The area is plagued with homeless people, and as other reviews on tripadvisor, there have been problems with people vandalizing vehicles. I should have listened to my wife and not gone there, you dont feel safe. I dont understand how you have a childrens center around this kind of environment or allow this kind of activity around the center especially with police around. The center does look cool but at what price. No thanks..... Fyi this is the same drug Michael Jackson died from, from what i gather.
Great experience. Took my 1 year old. Very comforting and friendly on the inside. But on the outside is a whole different scene. Peoplecamping all around the property
We looved this museum. I make it a goal to go to a kids museum with my toddler in every place we visit and at first I thought it was a bit underwhelming compared to others but I was pleasantly surprised by the end of the day. One of the highlights was the Asian cultures floor and it was beautiful and detailed. The prices at the cafe were decent as well. Definitely go with your smaller children if youre in town!
My kids love it there
Great place for little children 6 and under...
Great place to take your kids on a weekend. If you have a group, you can schedule it ahead of time. This is my second time going, and I went with my sons school, Pre-K. All of the kids had a blast. I rated it 4 Stars bc they only took cash for the snack bar, and the place doesnt change much over the years.
Very cool place for children to play. Area is spacious and clean. Plenty of fun for parents as well!
My kids had a blast running around and playing dress up
Good intro to physical science for younger kids on inside. For older kids, good intro to social science on the outside.
We had so much fun on the end of the school year field trip.
My 3 year old loves this place! Very educational and a great way to spend a rainy day or do something besides hit the beach. You’ll need more than one trip to get the most out of each exhibit. Would highly recommend! Don’t miss the 3rd floor!
Im not a kid Im more like a teen and this place was still fun to enjoy
The children love it here. There is so much to learn and explore. We got a season pass, so we have been visiting the last 5 weeks and still havent gone up stairs. Just yesterday we discovered they have an outdoor area open from 11:00 am til 12:00 pm. Where the children fed worms, planted seeds, watered, observed catipillars and larva. They have cool bubble stations and outdoor play.We will continue our visits until they no longer cry when we leave or wake up and ask if we are going today. The open hours are short but dont be detoured the children cant take to much more than 3 or 4 hours at a time
Great learning center for the kids.
Tons of stuff for kids to do. Wish there was more new stuff, but a good place to get the kids out.
It was much more than I expected. Just amazing my son spend like 4 hours there and he didnt want to leave it. The staff is super gentle and understanding how the kids are. Super cheap also for all the fun that you will have.Definitely well be back
Hawaii Childrens Discovery Center is a childrens museum located near Honolulu, Hawaiis Kakaako Waterfront Park. Founded in 1989 the 38,000 sq ft (3,500 m2) museum receives over 200,000 visits from children and their families every year.It is a non-profit organization with tax-exempt status, and a member of the Association of Childrens Museums
Love this place! So many things to do for children!
Pretty cool! Kind of like an indoor science playground. Massive.
My toddler son loves this place so I rate it four stars. I would give it five if the center updated the play areas, but theres still a lot for the little ones to do here. Downstairs has a big play area for infants and toddlers, as well as a little fishing activity in addition to some of the main attractions. Its basically a little indoor city for the little ones, including a market, doctors office, repair shop and fire station to name a few. Upstairs your little ones can take a journey to the different countries (small exhibits) and get a small experience of the different cultures. If you are visiting an need some place for your little ones to run around and have a good time, this is a nice place. If you have the annual membership, which I think is pretty reasonable if you go often, then its a good place to kill some time while your little ones have a blast.Be aware, lately the homeless have camped out near one of the smaller parking lots, but theres still a lot of options with the nearby Kakaako parking lot.
Great place to bring small children ages 2-8. Plenty of activities and hands on exhibits. The water room was great with many intricate details very cool. Expect to spend an hour in the water room minimum. The water room does close one hour before the museum so make sure you account for that. The other first floor rooms are great. There is a gem hidden upstairs with a ship for the Kids to play on, a Hawaiian airlines plane and a small village with various dwellings from around the pacific. Definitely enough in this place for multiple visits.
Kids love this place!
A little pricey for an outdated place, but kids loved it. I saw no point in paying 12 dollars for an infant to go in.
So many things to do for little kids to do here! But its a bit pricey. Note that the rainforest area close one hour before the center close.
We spent a morning here when we wanted a break from the beach during our vacation. The center featured a lot of exhibits weve seen at other childrens centers like the international village, displays about the body, mini city with a fire station and that type of thing, but there were a few unique Hawaiian exhibits that our little guy really enjoyed. They have a pineapple picking display that was really fun. I felt like the water area was exceptional. The center also has a lot of great areas for smaller kids and I appreciated the sectioned off areas where our toddler could have some fun without battling bigger kids. Definitely worth a visit if you want a kid focused day on your vacation.
This is a amazing place for kids Kids can learn and have fun.
Second time going there and its a great place to take kids and they learn and have a chance to play all day as well.
Fantastic for kids. So interesting and so educational. Even adults will love it.
Awesome place for kids and parents! Endless fun things to fi for a kid with any interest!
Great indoor place for kids.
Its a bit outdated, but my children enjoyed it and thats what matters.
Really great hands on place for kids of all ages! My 9 month old had a blast as well as my 4 year old! My only complaints are that some of the toys are dirty/unable to be sanitized and it doesnt seem like its sanitized properly as many people who visit get sick
Just amazing. Every child should go at least once.
Best place to take your kids
Get good eating places
The Discovery Center is a nice place for kids to explore. It is great for school field trip. Kids learn and play best with their friends (not necessary with parents:( Nevertheless, I enjoy the wheelchair ramp, inside da mouth exhibit and the old time role stations where kids can play dress up.
