It was a beautiful sunny day! Nice to sit at the picnic table and eat our take out from Panda Express!
Very peaceful location. Wish I spend a few hours here to just chill out.
We loved this locals hangout. Be sure to bring a chair or blanket to take a snooze in the sun. Clean facilities but not much parking. Try a week day or an overcast day if you like a quieter experience.
Nice area, miserable parking, no security or life guard on duty so mind your children, drink socially, clean up before you leave!
Bathroom area pretty clean. Water is good for small kids. Different swim areas to try and get more privacy with family or friends.
Lovely park with beautiful views. Downsides are the amount of homeless people arguing and how dirty the bathrooms are.
Nice for the kids to play but alot of homeless.
The beach is a combination of things. Its has white sand with some small Coral rock mixed. The water is brackish. During certain tides stones are revealed in the shallows. There is a grassy area and park benches. Has restrooms and showers.
Its beautiful city type beach. Lots of families and kids and protected freshwater. Clean.
Nice lagoons and semi sheltered bay. Breakwater protects the bay from huge swells but beware, the call above the water is deceiving. Strong currents make water cloudy for snorkelling. On a call clear day Im sure theres plenty to see, like my lost cell phone in an underwater sealed bag and snorkel gear & fins from paddleboarder. Turtles hang out near the side lagoon, and long canal for exploring if youre skilled enough.
Beautiful area just a lot of junkies and weirdos bathroom area
Lots of parking & very spacious beach for all to enjoy. Very sandy & tide is good for smaller keiki. No lifeguard on duty & main road is nearby so you need to be vigilant. Public restroom & showers as well as quiet a few picnic tables. Very good walking paths. Lots of turtles & ducks to enjoy too.
Beautiful quaint simple park
Very Beautiful park.
I swam with a turtle through what felt like an endless aquarium in the most amazing water thats warm and cold at the same time.
Easy parking not many people
We just got a two man kayak had a great time awesome
We call this one of those Sweet Spots of the City, a beaitful gem of an urban oasis just minutes from downtown Hilo Bayfront. This is also a 24 hr Beach Park and watercraft launch zone for Kayakers and Standup Paddlers.
Enjoyed the day kayaking with ohana
Very beautiful and keiki friendly
Just a little beauty amongst the beautiful banyan drive! Family place to have fun! Check it out! Footnote: check at the base of every Batman tree, a little bit of history to say the least!! And, to think at one time this was a small town destroyed by tsunamis!-! Enjoy! Aloha!
Recently refurbished with restroom and showers. Convenient water access for swimming, SUP, paddling
Convenient family oriented
Great local swimming, paddle boarding, and kayak spot. Some fishing. Not good for snorkeling due to fresh water. Great for BBQ. Some days a mobile shave ice vendor comes and has reasonable prices.
Best beach n hilo.
Park has changed over the last decade or so. I love everything about the layout except the lack of parking along the areas I frequently visit here. We like swimming at the mouth of ICE POND and on weekends, it is difficult to find parking... But first come first served... Get there early. Water is clean and cold! This is one of the gems on the Hilo side. Bathrooms are a little ways away but they are clean and well kept as are all public beaches in Hilo. Parks and Recreation Department kicks butt here!!! Kudos guys and gals!
Beautiful with fresh water flow directly into ocean from artesian springs. Sea Turtles!
Nice little local beach feed by cool fresh springs making it very refreshing..
Friendly Local spot to enjoy a picnic lunch by the bay.
Beautiful tranquil educationalWhat more can I say?
Not overpopulated and great place to just relax or swim in the ponds
One of our favorite places! Please be mindful of your trash. Keep Hawaii clean.
Delicately manicured ocean reef bay, near to Port of Hilo--- Reeds bay beach park is on the peninsular eastern seashore, Central to Hilos hotel district holding the banyan groves of the rural town. Cold water, fish and fishing helpake this spot a one-in-all adventure for tourists and locals alike.
Banyon trees bigger than life. Silver schools of fish... airborne for a brief few seconds, then disappear in the transparency of a peaceful ocean. Kens pancake house is a par 4 away and it is quiet... mahalo Hilo!
Love having lunch here under the shady trees. So relaxing.
The black sands is like silk.. saw half dozen huge sea turtles.. perfect Hawaii day
I love to chillax here with my MaileGirl, who loves to swim in the salty ocean waters. Lots of brackish water here, so the water temperature in spots is chilly. Perfect for our hot Hawaiian afternoons.Bathrooms and showers were added a few years ago, to make chillin out easier and more comfortable.Bring your picnic basket, beach gear and enjoy!
This is a great beach if you have little kids not good around waves and drop offs into deep water. Since it is inside the protection of the harbor there is hardly ever waves so it is also good for paddle boarding and kayaking. There is regularly turtles cruising the shoreline. It is also great for picnics and bbqs as there is a lot of grass area.
Beautiful scenes...got to go here often as I can....especially on my day offs.
Has a tropical look to it. Feels relaxing.
Mellow little park, with folks walking around relaxing, fishing, etc.
Beautiful and peaceful. Great place for young children to swim. Showers and bathrooms too.
Ocean swimming in a protected bay.has lots of shade and grass, plus restrooms and outdoor toilets.
Great food, old fashioned restrurant
Good morning Ms
Nice beach, a little rocky but grew to expect this for this side of the island.
Beautiful place just to have lunch a lay in the sun for some sun tan.
It hard to swim there rocky very rocky at first but if you make it a little bit out its fun
Only there on a tour not got off bus as it was raining
Beautiful love to go and have lunch and do some swimming.
Small quaint park by the confluence of the ice pond and reeds bay. Insulated from the traffic unlike the other side which can get crowded. The downside is no pets allowed and people still bring their pets, I hope they get caught!
The Ponds Restaurant on Kalanianaole in Hilo near the Bay. A excellent Chef, offers a varied menu and relaxed Hawaiian dinning and tropical open air tables along the windows seats that over look a lovely pond!
Absolutely beautiful beachside views and Aloha!
Mice little beach
Best place to have #familytime
Beautiful
Love this beach! Peaceful
Beautiful. I did have to pick up a lot of broken glass. People are such jerks. Please pick up trash when you see it
Popular with locals who just want to cool off. Little to no parking and usually busy.
Good place to relax and wind down.
Perfect stop to jump in some cold water
Nice bay can be rocky grate for kayaking and enjoying the bay has tables restrooms green grass sandy beach plenty of shade trees grate place to relax.
Breathtaking, Beautiful, Stunning and Spectacular!!!
Peaceful
Nice clean locals beach.
Nice lil spot.. good place for a quiet lil picnic, or maybe to read a book.
Nice place. Sunny.
It was a beautiful day in Hilo to visit this beach and the water was perfect cold but still perfect
Great coral sand beach
Good family hang out
Its a beach... Nothings more relaxing den chilln in front of the ocean..
Its a beautiful place to hang out with friends and talk story
Ice pond is very refreshing. This is an unusual and very special place. Right in town very convenient.
Quiet little beach spot. Easy to launch stand up paddle boards, kayaks and small boats. Great place to have a picnic lunch during the week. A short walk from the big Hilo hotels on Banyan Drive. has a bathroom and picnic tables.
Great spot in Hilo to relax and enjoy the beach. Go to the KTA on the way there, grab some poké and beer, and enjoy being away from the tourist beaches. Weve been coming here for years. There are a few beaches along this stretch to check out so if this is busy, head down the road to the next.
Good park for kids. Pretty neat and clean.
AWSOME
Nice complex of family picnic areas. Free access on the Hilo Bay. Rest rooms, grills, and a horseshoe pitch available . Good place for shells and driftwood
Good place for family fun in the big island.
