Very serene to take a walk or do a run here, by the bay waters. This is my nature experience so close to where I live. Sunset views are great. I have seen some baby gopher snakes here sometimes on the paved road leading to the bay side trail, from the shoreline parking. They are harmless but better to watch out so they dont get harmed

Parking lot was full before the sun even came up. Also for some reason I have found that a lot of bicyclists (and some occasional hikers) like to blast their music for everyone (and all the wildlife) to hear. Its really obnoxious especially on an otherwise peaceful morning. That being said there is a decent amount of bird life here and can make for some decent photos if its not too overcast and you make sure not to get all the factories and city industry behind them.

This address takes you to the right place! It says dead end but there are 2 parking areas. The one you see first is unofficial and actually has gates that open up to the off leash dog friendly side (See pic below). If you drive further in is the official parking lot where that is also a restroom. This area all you’ll see is no dog signs. The dog friendly side we walked 3 miles out and back but you can definitely go out further. A good amount of people out enjoying the sun but not crowded at all. Most people had dogs on their leash and picked up their small dogs when they saw mine coming by.Loved being surrounded by water and even a glimpse of San Francisco skyline. My pup enjoyed chasing all the squirrels too!I also saw people bird watching? They had some hardcore cameras with the mega zoom lenses.

What a nice oasis. It’s a small walk around but it’s a huge break from the grind of the Bay Area. It is well worth the stop. Locals do frequent the area which is always a good sign. There are two parking lots. So look out for the hidden turns. Have fun and don’t litter!!

Several miles of level gravel trails to hike and bike on. Many bird species live here year round and they have a fantastic interpretive center on the south side near the San Mateo Bridge. You can cross over highway 92 via a pedestrian bridge and enter the Eden Shores Wildlife Preserve, as well. Its pretty windy most of the time, so bring a jacket and hat if you get cold easily.

As a water enthusiast Im always looking for a quick ways to get to the water as a way of relaxing and rejuvenating myself. I have been seeing signs in Hayward that said water access, so I decided to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised to find within 10 minutes I could be looking out at the bay and waves. Theres several trails that you can hike around the marshlands. Some even with your dog off leash. There was only one bench so if you feel you want to walk and sit for a while you might need to bring your own chair. Its actually a decent walk from where you park to where the water is oh, so if you cant walk far this may not be the spot for you. And of course dont leave anything visible in your car because the place where you park your car is actually kind of remote and isolated. And most of all most importantly pay attention to the time that the parking lot closes which I believe is 7 and you have to park outside of the gate.

If you are looking for an alternative to a dog park, this is it. Located at the end of Winton Ave (off I880, take Winton West til it ends), park out side the Park on the gravel area next to the fence. Do not go into the Park area (no dogs allowed there) but on the west side fence line there is an opening. Dogs are allowed off leash (please make sure that they are friendly since there are other dogs and people using the area) On the right hand side is a map of the area and a little further are even doggie waste bag for use. It is 1/2 mile to the shoreline and many hiking trails along the way. Place to play fetch in the water (driftwood abounds) and let your dog roam to his/hers hearts content, or take a blanket and soak in the sun.

The trails are lovely. Walk along the edge of the bay and enjoy the birds, the wind and the (small) waves. Mostly pelagic birds, but also a few raptors. The folks in the center will help you spot them and let you know when and where youre likely to find them. Theres usually a red-tailed hawk hanging out near the first bridge if you come early or late in the day.

If you know Hayward you know that it doesn’t exactly have a wide variety of options to get into a nature retreat. The Hayward regional shoreline is definitely one of the best options available, and I recently learned that there is an aspect of the trail that extends north from Hayward to San Leandro and has a beautiful bridge-like connection between Hayward and San Leandro. It’s a great trail to walk or run on, there is a sign that says no pets but I have seen people with their pets on the trail and so I’m not sure if that is part or all of the park that is not available to pets. That is definitely worth a visit from either the Hayward or San Leandro side, both are beautiful and the only other nice nature retreat that I have found locally in Hayward is Garin regional park. Enjoy your visit here!

Good place to walk your dog or bike. It has great view, and it stretches for several miles. You can also walk your dog with or without a leash provided that they are in the Northern side of the Shoreline (by the San Leandro Trail); its less of a hassle than the other areas. Theres only one building that the rangers operate out of for the whole area. The only problem it has small parking lots and confusing signage.

I love this park. The trails that the park service looks after offer great views of the bay and the the vegetation is allowed the flourish in a natural manner. The park has trash cans at the entrance which some visitors ignore unfortunately. I have encountered a variety of visitors who all want to peacefully enjoy nature. The park may benefit from a larger entry sign that explains why feeding animals is bad for them, especially bread to birds. The staff I have encountered are always polite and we are able to communicate little issues that we see to help them out with their work. Its a nice piece of nature that deserves to be looked after.--I rely on thorough reviews to make my decision on where to visit.
