Shows the films you wont see elsewhere. The recent renovations have given a much needed refresh to the seating to further enhance the viewing experience. In addition, the screen is enormous and the projection system is second to none in the area. For classic films or recent releases, you wont go wrong here.
My favorite theater in the Hartford area, hands down! Beautifully refurbished a few years ago. It has a balcony!! The only one in greater Hartford. Diverse and interesting array of films. No concession. It sits in the middle of the Trinity College campus. Ample parking within a pleasant 150-200 yard walk.
This place is such a treat for film fans. Have seen so many great films here over the years. Ive even taken some field trips here for my students during the day. So welcoming and a true film experience. James is wonderful.
Very unique movie studio. Perfect place for a nice night at the movies.
The theatre is super warm! Dress appropriately.....great films though.
Gorgeous renovations to this wonderful theater at Trinity College to see Paris is Burning.
Fabulous cinema. Outstanding films, gorgeous interior.
Nice theater. Lots of comfortable seating. Balcony and lower level seating. Very large screen. I actually felt too close to the screen sitting in the 2nd row balcony, causing lots of head and eye shifts to watch the film. I also felt like the sound was a bit too loud. Could be personal preference or where I was seated but, it muffled some of the speaking for me. Tough time of year to get it right but it was warm in the theater almost too warm but tolerable. Over all I liked it and on Sunday night we had no difficulty parking. This theater is in the middle of the trinity college campus. They do offer a 2$ senior discount. Not sure of the age for that, best to ask. Safe location, fairly easy access. Was our first time here and GPS only delivers to the general location.
Great venue for great cinema, classic and current, domestic and international, indie and studio. With a balcony! And wonderful screen curtain, .
What a beautiful theater. Just like a circa 1940s movie hall with a scalloped curtain going up, it has a balcony and a larger screen than modern multiplexes. Seating is comfortable, not stadium though. It was easier to get to from I-84 than I-91 and wasnt crowded on a Saturday when all the Trinity students are gone for the summer. Looks like they have a lot of great events on their calendar.
I didnt love the movie but what a great theater. There is no better place to see a film.
Delightfully classic theater. Definitely take advantage of any chance to visit!
Great movie theater featuring outstanding movies! My girlfriend and I go to their Film Festival every year!
Great old school seats. Saw 70mm 2001 today which was great. Seats are old school too and. O concessions other than a soda machine so bring your own snacks
2001...original theatrical release..wow
This theater is incredible! A cinema nerds dream ♡
Cinestudio is a wonderful little independent cinema which marches to its own unique beat. Because they maintain 35mm and 70mm film projectors as well as modern 4k digital equipment, they can show classic movies as well as modern works. As much as I love them though, I cant give them five stars because most of the seats are low and the rows are really close together, so sitting through a long film like tonights Lawrence of Arabia means leg cramps and numb feet. And I would happily contribute to a fund drive to add some kind of ventilation - it can get pretty stifling in there.
Good spot in historic college and good movie night.
Cinestudio is one of the best things about Hartford. Its very fortunate that an independent theater with programming and presentation technology of this caliber exists where it does and for how long it has. From the Voice of the Theater speakers with tube amp sound system to the gorgeous digital cinema projector and excellent lens, to the scalloped curtain and the real wool fiber woven carpet with the Cinestudio logo, this is a movie-goers dream palace. AND they screen 35mm and 70mm films from FILM PROJECTORS! As an added bonus one of the co-founders, the very knowledgeable and passionate James Hanley is often available for impromptu discussions after the films.
Wonderful old world Cinema with smart movie lineup. A long-standing independent theater within thr beautiful setting of Trinity College quad.. A gem of Hartford.
Great movie theater, good off mainstream showings.
Awesome place, historic setting in a converted science lecture hall.
Ill list pros/cons so easier. Went for first time on nov 28Pros:QuiteLarge selection of seats available, including balcony seatingCons:Almost impossible to find if never been there beforeSeats are very uncomfortableAnd I know visited it in Nov but omg the heat! Was so hot it made watching movie a pain
Great spot to see movies. They sometimes show 70mm film prints.
Such a gem! Love the new seats!
Great new seats and of course excellent service.
Old time theater with movies worth watching
Best place to watch movies in Connecticut by far.
Best and Only full size single screen movie theatre in our area. Classic and Current film schedule. Support this great organization.
A gem! Always the nicest experience!
Cinestudio is one of Hartfords treasures. One of my fond memories of my years living there was trudging across Trinitys campus on a Friday or Saturday night towards the red lantern at the doorway to the theater. I saw a lot of really cool movies there - Bullets Over Broadway, the cleaned up re-release of Vertigo, Le Cercle Rouge (!) - made all the cooler because I could watch them from a balcony seat in a theater with a lot of character.
Awesome time with different themed movies! Check out the schedule!
Best place to see films...bar none.
Always terrific special movies here! Terrific screenings and still undiscovered.
Great theater, great movie selections. Wonderful old school vibe.
Great pace to catch an old movie or a new one!
Hands down the best art house in Connecticut
A really gem on the Trinity campus!
I basically loathe going to the movies but will gladly go back to Cinastudio! Old-timey vibes with great picture and sound quality. Other reviews say that you can bring food but we attempted tonight and they said that they dont allow food- heads up! They do have a soda machine though.Anyways, totally cool theater playing interesting movies located on a beautiful campus- Ill definitely be back!
Remarkable atmosphere, incredible staff and excellent audio-visual quality. A wonderful experience to have.
This was the first time I have been at Cinestudio in years. The new seats and projection system are a big improvement.
Classic stuff on a big screen

An under-appreciated resource for Hartford
A true local gem. Delightful movie house for intriguing and beautiful films.
Always enjoy the setting for a good cinematic experience. Glory was a protrayal of good goes bad & self-centered behavior leads tragic events
Great little theater to see unusual films and shows.
JoJo Rabbit
Awesome selection of movies. Great ambience.
Nice atmosphere but movies arent that great
Old world theatre. Charming.
